1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amos, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

2 Hear, ye heavens, and give ear, thou earth! for Jehovah hath spoken: I have nourished and brought up children; and they have rebelled against me. 3 The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib; Israel doth not know, my people hath no intelligence. 4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that corrupt themselves! They have forsaken Jehovah; they have despised the Holy One of Israel; they are turned away backward. 5 Why should ye be smitten any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. 6 From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in him; wounds, and weals, and open sores: they have not been dressed, nor bound up, nor mollified with oil. 7 Your country is desolate; your cities are burned with fire; your land, strangers eat it up in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers. 8 And the daughter of Zion is left, as a booth in a vineyard, as a night-lodge in a cucumber-garden, as a besieged city. 9 Unless Jehovah of hosts had left us a very small residue, we should have been as Sodom, we should have been like unto Gomorrah.

10 Hear the word of Jehovah, rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God*GodHebrew: Elohim people of Gomorrah! 11 To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith Jehovah. I am sated with burnt-offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and in the blood of bullocks, and of lambs, and of he-goats I take no pleasure. 12 When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this from your hand — to tread my courts? 13 Bring no more vain oblations! Incense is an abomination unto me, — new moon and sabbath, the calling of convocations — wickedness and the solemn meeting I cannot bear. 14 Your new moons and your set feasts my soul hateth: they are a burden to me; I am wearied of bearing them. 15 And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you; yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.

16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; — cease to do evil, 17 learn to do well: seek judgment, gladden the oppressed, do justice to the fatherless, plead for the widow. 18 Come now, let us reason together, saith Jehovah: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. 19 If ye be willing and hearken, ye shall eat the good of the land; 20 but if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken.

21 How is the faithful city become a harlot! It was full of judgment; righteousness used to lodge in it, but now murderers. 22 Thy silver is become dross, thy wine is mixed with water: 23 thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves; every one loveth presents, and hunteth after rewards; they judge not the fatherless, and the cause of the widow cometh not unto them. 24 Therefore saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel: Ah! I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies. 25 And I will turn my hand upon thee, and will thoroughly purge away thy dross, and take away all thine alloy; 26 and I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning. Afterwards thou shalt be called, Town of righteousness, Faithful city. 27 Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and they that return of her with righteousness. 28 But the ruin of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together; and they that forsake Jehovah shall be consumed. 29 For they shall be ashamed of the terebinths that ye have desired, and ye shall blush for the gardens that ye have chosen. 30 For ye shall be as a terebinth whose leaf fadeth, and as a garden that hath no water. 31 And the strong shall be for tow, and his work a spark; and they shall both burn together, and there shall be none to quench them.

Au părăsit pe Domnul, au disprețuit pe Sfântul lui Israel. I-au întors spatele… 5 Ce*Cap. 9:13.Ier. 2:30;5:3. pedepse noi să vă mai dea, când voi vă răzvrătiți din ce în ce mai rău? Tot capul este bolnav și toată inima suferă de moarte! 6 Din tălpi până-n creștet, nimic nu-i sănătos, ci numai răni, vânătăi și carne vie, nestoarse*Ier. 8:22., nelegate și nealinate cu untdelemn: 7 țara*Deut. 28:51,52. vă este pustiită, cetățile vă sunt arse de foc, străinii vă mănâncă ogoarele sub ochii voștri, pustiesc și nimicesc, ca niște sălbatici. 8 Și fiica Sionului a rămas ca*Iov 27:18.Plâng. 2:6. o colibă în vie, ca o covercă într-un câmp de castraveți, ca*Ier. 4:17. o cetate împresurată. 9 De*Plâng. 3:22.Rom. 9:29. nu ne-ar fi lăsat Domnul oștirilor o mică rămășiță, am fi ajuns ca Sodoma*Gen. 19:24. și ne-am fi asemănat cu Gomora.

10 Ascultați Cuvântul Domnului, căpetenii*Deut. 32:32.Ezec. 16:46. ale Sodomei! Ia aminte la Legea Dumnezeului nostru, popor al Gomorei! 11 „Ce-Mi trebuie Mie mulțimea jertfelor*1 Sam. 15:22.Ps. 50:8,9;51:16.Prov. 15:8;21:27. Cap. 66:3.Ier. 6:20;7:21.Amos 5:21,22.Mica 6:7. voastre?", zice Domnul. „Sunt sătul de arderile-de-tot ale berbecilor și de grăsimea vițeilor; nu-Mi place sângele taurilor, oilor și țapilor. 12 Când veniți să*Exod 23:17;34:23. vă înfățișați înaintea Mea, cine vă cere astfel de lucruri, ca să-Mi spurcați curțile? 13 Nu mai aduceți daruri*Mat. 15:9. de mâncare nefolositoare, căci Mi-e scârbă de tămâie! Nu vreau luni noi, Sabate și adunări de sărbătoare*Ioel 1:14;2:15., nu pot să văd nelegiuirea unită cu sărbătoarea! 14 Urăsc lunile*Num. 28:11. voastre cele noi și praznicele*Lev. 23:2.Plâng. 2:6. voastre; Mi-au ajuns o povară, nu*Cap. 43:24. le mai pot suferi. 15 Când*Iov 27:9.Ps. 134:2.Prov. 1:28. Cap. 59:2.Ier. 14:12.Mica 3:4. vă întindeți mâinile, Îmi întorc ochii de la voi și, oricât*Ps. 66:18.1 Tim. 2:8. de mult v-ați ruga, n-ascult, căci mâinile vă sunt pline de sânge*Cap. 59:3.!

16 Spălați-vă*Ier. 4:14. deci și curățiți-vă! Luați dinaintea ochilor Mei faptele rele pe care le-ați făcut! Încetați*Ps. 34:14;37:27.Amos 5:15.Rom. 12:9.1 Pet. 3:11. să mai faceți răul! 17 Învățați-vă să faceți binele, căutați*Ier. 22:3,16.Mica 6:8.Zah. 7:9;8:16. dreptatea, ocrotiți pe cel asuprit, faceți dreptate orfanului, apărați pe văduvă! 18 Veniți totuși să*Cap. 43:26.Mica 6:2. ne judecăm", zice Domnul. „De vor fi păcatele voastre cum e cârmâzul, se vor face*Ps. 51:7.Apoc. 7:14. albe ca zăpada; de vor fi roșii ca purpura, se vor face ca lâna. 19 De veți voi și veți asculta, veți mânca cele mai bune roade ale țării; 20 dar de nu veți voi și nu veți asculta, de sabie veți fi înghițiți, căci*Num. 23:19.Tit 1:2. gura Domnului a vorbit." 21 Vai, cetatea*Ier. 2:20,21. aceea credincioasă, cum a ajuns o curvă! Era plină de judecată, dreptatea locuia în ea, și acum e plină de ucigași! 22 Argintul*Ier. 6:28,30.Ezec. 22:18,19. tău s-a prefăcut în zgură și vinul tău cel ales a fost amestecat cu apă. 23 Mai-marii*Osea 9:15. tăi sunt răzvrătiți și părtași*Prov. 29:24. cu hoții, toți*Ier. 22:17.Ezec. 22:12.Osea 4:18.Mica 3:11;7:3. iubesc mita și aleargă după plată; orfanului*Ier. 5:28.Zah. 7:10. nu-i fac dreptate și pricina văduvei n-ajunge până la ei. 24 De aceea, iată ce zice Domnul Dumnezeul oștirilor, Puternicul lui Israel: „Ah! Voi cere socoteală*Deut. 28:63.Ezec. 5:13. potrivnicilor Mei și Mă voi răzbuna pe vrăjmașii Mei. 25 Îmi voi întinde mâna împotriva ta, îți*Ier. 6:29;9:7.Mal. 3:3. voi topi zgura cum o topește leșia, toate părticelele de plumb le voi depărta din tine. 26 Voi face iarăși pe judecătorii tăi ca*Ier. 33:7. odinioară și pe sfetnicii tăi ca la început. După aceea, vei fi numită*Zah. 8:3. cetatea neprihănită, cetatea credincioasă." 27 Sionul va fi mântuit prin judecată și cei ce se vor întoarce la Dumnezeu în el vor fi mântuiți prin dreptate. 28 Dar pieirea*Iov 31:3.Ps. 1:6;5:6;73:27;92:9;104:35. va atinge pe toți cei răzvrătiți și păcătoși, și cei ce părăsesc pe Domnul vor pieri. 29 „Vă va fi rușine de terebinții*Cap. 57:5. în care găseați plăcere și*Cap. 65:3;66:17. veți roși din pricina grădinilor în care vă desfătați, 30 căci veți fi ca un terebint cu frunzele ofilite, ca o grădină care n-are apă. 31 Omul*Ezec. 32:21. tare va fi ca*Cap. 43:17. niște câlți, și lucrarea lui, ca o scânteie; amândoi vor arde împreună și nimeni nu-i va stinge."
