1 The burden of Egypt. Behold, Jehovah rideth upon a swift cloud, and cometh to Egypt; and the idols of Egypt are moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt melteth in the midst of it. 2 And I will incite the Egyptians against the Egyptians; and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour; city against city, kingdom against kingdom. 3 And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst of it, and I will destroy the counsel thereof; and they shall seek unto the idols and unto the conjurers, and unto the necromancers, and unto the soothsayers. 4 And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord, and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts. 5 And the waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up; 6 and the rivers shall stink, and the streams of Egypt shall be diminished and drain away: the reeds and sedges shall wither. 7 The meadows by the Nile, on the banks of the Nile, and everything sown by the Nile, shall be dried up, be driven away, and be no more. 8 And the fishers shall mourn, and all they that cast fish-hook into the Nile shall lament, and they that spread net upon the waters shall languish. 9 And they that work in fine flax, and they that weave white stuffs shall be ashamed. 10 And her pillars shall be broken in pieces, and all workers for hire shall be sad of soul. 11 They are but fools, the princes of Zoan, the wise counsellors of Pharaoh: their counsel is become senseless. How say ye unto Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings? 12 Where are they then, thy wise men? Let them now tell thee, and let them make known what Jehovah of hosts hath purposed upon Egypt. 13 The princes of Zoan are become foolish, the princes of Noph are deceived; and the corner-stones of its tribes have caused Egypt to err. 14 Jehovah hath mingled a spirit of perverseness in the midst thereof; and they have caused Egypt to err in every work thereof, as a drunkard staggereth in his vomit. 15 Neither shall there be any work for Egypt, which the head or tail, palm-branch or rush, may do. 16 In that day shall Egypt be like unto women; and it shall tremble and fear because of the shaking of the hand of Jehovah of hosts, which he shaketh over it. 17 And the land of Judah shall be a dismay unto Egypt: every one that thinketh of it shall be afraid for himself, because of the counsel of Jehovah of hosts, which he hath purposed against it.

18 In that day shall there be five cities in the land of Egypt speaking the language of Canaan, and swearing by Jehovah of hosts: one shall be called, The city of Heres. 19 In that day shall there be an altar to Jehovah in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at the border thereof to Jehovah: 20 and it shall be for a sign and for a witness to Jehovah of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they shall cry unto Jehovah because of the oppressors, and he will send them a saviour and defender, who shall deliver them. 21 And Jehovah shall be known to the Egyptians, and the Egyptians shall know Jehovah in that day, and shall serve with sacrifice and oblation; and they shall vow a vow unto Jehovah, and perform it. 22 And Jehovah will smite Egypt; he will smite and heal: and they shall return to Jehovah, and he will be entreated of them, and will heal them. 23 In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria; and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria; and Egypt shall serve with Assyria. 24 In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the earth; 25 whom Jehovah of hosts will bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance!

Egiptului tremură înaintea Lui și li se îndoaie inima egiptenilor în ei. 2 „Voi înarma*Jud. 7:22.1 Sam. 14:16,20.2 Cron. 20:23. pe egipteni unii împotriva altora și se vor bate frate cu frate, prieten cu prieten, cetate cu cetate, împărăție cu împărăție. 3 Duhul egiptenilor va pieri din ei și le voi nimici sfatul; atunci vor întreba*Cap. 8:19;47:12. pe idoli și pe vrăjitori, pe cei ce cheamă morții și pe ghicitori. 4 Voi da Egiptul în*Cap. 20:4.Ier. 46:26.Ezec. 29:19. mâinile unui stăpân aspru și un împărat fără milă va stăpâni peste ei", zice Domnul Dumnezeul oștirilor. 5 Apele*Ier. 51:36.Ezec. 30:12. mării vor seca și râul va seca și se va usca, 6 râurile se vor împuți, canalele*2 Împ. 19:24. Egiptului vor fi goale și uscate, pipirigul și trestiile se vor veșteji. 7 Livezile Nilului de la îmbucătura râului și toate semănăturile din valea râului se vor usca, se vor preface în țărână și vor pieri. 8 Vor geme pescarii, se vor boci toți cei ce aruncă undița în râu și cei ce întind mreje pe ape vor fi nemângâiați. 9 Cei ce lucrează inul*1 Împ. 10:28.Prov. 7:16. dărăcit și cei ce țes țesături albe vor fi acoperiți de rușine, 10 stăpânitorii țării vor fi întristați și toți simbriașii vor fi cu inima amărâtă. 11 În adevăr, voievozii Țoanului*Num. 13:22. au înnebunit, sfetnicii înțelepți ai lui Faraon s-au prostit. Cum îndrăzniți voi să spuneți lui Faraon: „Noi suntem fiii înțelepților, fiii străvechilor împărați"? 12 Unde*1 Cor. 1:20. sunt înțelepții tăi? Să-ți facă descoperiri dumnezeiești și să spună ce a hotărât Domnul oștirilor împotriva Egiptului. 13 Voievozii Țoanului au înnebunit, voievozii*Ier. 2:16. Nofului s-au înșelat, căpeteniile semințiilor duc Egiptul în rătăcire: 14 Domnul a răspândit în mijlocul lui un*1 Împ. 22:22. Cap. 29:10. duh de amețeală, ca să facă pe egipteni să se clatine în toate faptele lor, cum se clatină un om beat și varsă, 15 și Egiptul nu va avea pe nimeni care să poată face ceva, nici cap*Cap. 9:14., nici coadă, nici ramură de finic, nici trestie! 16 În ziua aceea, Egiptul va fi*Ier. 51:30.Naum 3:13. ca o femeie: va tremura și se va teme, văzând mișcarea mâinii Domnului oștirilor, când*Cap. 11:15. o va ridica împotriva lui. 17 Chiar și țara lui Iuda va fi o groază pentru Egipt: cum i se va vorbi de ea, se va îngrozi din pricina hotărârii luate împotriva lui de Domnul oștirilor.

18 În vremea aceea, vor fi cinci cetăți în țara Egiptului, care vor vorbi*Ţef. 3:9. limba Canaanului și vor jura pe Domnul oștirilor: una din ele se va numi „Cetatea Nimicirii"*19:18 Sau: Cetatea Soarelui.! 19 Tot în vremea aceea va*Gen. 28:18.Exod 24:4.Ios. 22:10,26,27. fi un altar pentru Domnul în țara Egiptului și la hotar va*Ios. 4:20;22:27. fi un stâlp de aducere aminte pentru Domnul. 20 Acesta va fi pentru Domnul oștirilor un semn și o mărturie în țara Egiptului. Ei vor striga către Domnul din pricina asupritorilor, și El le va trimite un mântuitor și un apărător, care să-i izbăvească. 21 Atunci, Domnul Se va descoperi egiptenilor, și egiptenii vor cunoaște pe Domnul în ziua aceea. Vor*Mal. 1:11. aduce jertfe și daruri de mâncare, vor face juruințe Domnului și le vor împlini. 22 Astfel, Domnul va lovi pe egipteni, îi va lovi, dar îi va tămădui. Ei se vor întoarce la Domnul, care-i va asculta și-i va vindeca. 23 În aceeași vreme, va*Cap. 11:16. fi un drum care va duce din Egipt în Asiria: asirienii se vor duce în Egipt și egiptenii, în Asiria, și egiptenii împreună cu asirienii vor sluji Domnului. 24 Tot în vremea aceea, Israel va fi al treilea, unit cu Egiptul și cu Asiria, ca o binecuvântare în mijlocul pământului. 25 Domnul oștirilor îi va binecuvânta și va zice: „Binecuvântat să fie Egiptul, poporul Meu, și Asiria, lucrarea*Ps. 100:3. Cap. 29:23.Osea 2:23.Efes. 2:10. mâinilor Mele, și Israel, moștenirea Mea!"
