1 The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through, so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land. 2 A grievous vision is declared unto me: the treacherous dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, Elam! besiege, Media! All the sighing thereof have I made to cease. 3 Therefore are my loins filled with pain; anguish hath taken hold upon me, as the anguish of a woman in travail: I am bowed down so as not to hear, I am dismayed so as not to see. 4 My heart panteth, horror affrighteth me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into trembling unto me. 5 Prepare the table, appoint the watch; eat, drink: arise, ye princes, anoint the shield. 6 For thus hath the Lord said unto me: Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth. 7 And he saw chariots, horsemen by pairs, a chariot with asses, a chariot with camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed. 8 And he cried as a lion, Lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights. 9 — And behold, there cometh a chariot of men; horsemen by pairs. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground. 10 O my threshing, and the corn of my floor! What I have heard of Jehovah of hosts, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel, have I declared unto you.

11 The burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night? 12 The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will inquire, inquire; return, come.

13 The burden against Arabia. In the forest of Arabia shall ye lodge, ye caravans of Dedanites. 14 Bring ye water to meet the thirsty! The inhabitants of the land of Tema come forth with their bread for him that fleeth. 15 For they flee from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war. 16 For thus hath the Lord said unto me: Within a year, according to the years of a hired servant, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail; 17 and the residue of the number of the archers, the mighty men of the sons of Kedar, shall be diminished: for Jehovah, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel, hath spoken.

1 Prorocie asupra pustiei mării:

Cum*Zah. 9:14. înaintează vijelia de la miazăzi, așa vine el din pustie, din țara înfricoșată. 2 O vedenie grozavă mi s-a descoperit. Asupritorul*Cap. 33:1. asuprește, pustiitorul pustiește. „Suie-te*Cap. 13:17.Ier. 49:34., Elamule! Împresoară, Medio! Căci fac să înceteze toate oftările lor", zice Domnul. 3 De aceea mi s-a umplut inima*Cap. 15:5;16:11. de neliniște, m-apucă durerile*Cap. 13:8., ca durerile unei femei când naște. Zvârcolirile nu mă lasă s-aud, tremurul mă împiedică să văd. 4 Îmi bate inima cu putere, m-apucă groaza; noaptea*Deut. 28:67. plăcerilor mele ajunge o noapte de spaimă. 5 Ei*Dan. 5:5. pun masa, straja veghează, și ei mănâncă, beau… Dar deodată se aude strigând: „În picioare, voievozi! Ungeți scutul!" 6 Căci așa mi-a vorbit Domnul: „Du-te și pune un străjer, ca să dea de veste despre ce va vedea." 7 El*Vers. 9. a văzut călărime, călăreți doi câte doi, călăreți pe măgari, călăreți pe cămile, și asculta cu luare aminte, cu cea mai mare băgare de seamă. 8 Apoi a strigat ca un leu: „Doamne, am stat mereu în turnul meu de*Hab. 2:1. pază și stăteam de strajă în toate nopțile. 9 Și iată că a venit călărime și călăreți doi câte doi." Apoi a luat iarăși cuvântul și a zis: „A*Ier. 51:8.Apoc. 14:8;18:2. căzut, a căzut Babilonul și toate*Cap. 46:1.Ier. 50:2;51:44. icoanele dumnezeilor lui sunt sfărâmate la pământ!" 10 O*Ier. 51:33., poporul meu, care ai fost stropșit ca boabele de grâu din aria mea, ce am auzit de la Domnul oștirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel, aceea vă vestesc.

11 Prorocie*1 Cron. 1:30.Ier. 49:7,8.Ezec. 35:2.Obad. 1. asupra Dumei:

Mi se strigă din Seir: „Străjerule, cât mai este din noapte? Străjerule, mai este mult din noapte?" 12 Străjerul răspunde: „Vine dimineața, și este tot noapte. Dacă vreți să întrebați, întrebați; întoarceți-vă și veniți iarăși!" 13 Prorocie*Ier. 49:28. asupra Arabiei:

Veți petrece noaptea în tufele Arabiei, cete de negustori din Dedan*1 Cron. 1:9,32.! 14 Duceți apă celor ce le este sete; locuitorii țării Tema, duceți pâine fugarilor! 15 Căci ei fug dinaintea săbiilor, dinaintea sabiei scoase din teacă, dinaintea arcului încordat și dinaintea unei lupte înverșunate. 16 Căci așa mi-a vorbit Domnul: „Încă un an, ca*Cap. 16:14. anii unui simbriaș, și s-a isprăvit cu toată slava Chedarului*Ps. 120:5. Cap. 60:7.. 17 Nu va mai rămâne decât un mic număr din vitejii arcași, fii ai Chedarului, căci Domnul Dumnezeul lui Israel a spus-o."
