1 And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz, the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, came up to Jerusalem to make war against it, but they were not able to fight against it. 2 And it was told the house of David saying, Syria is allied with Ephraim. Then his heart and the heart of his people shook, as the trees of the forest are shaken with the wind. 3 And Jehovah said to Isaiah, Go out now to meet Ahaz, thou and thy son Shear-jashub, at the end of the aqueduct of the upper pool, on the highway of the fuller’s field; 4 and thou shalt say unto him, Take heed and be quiet; fear not, and let not thy heart faint before these two ends of smoking firebrands, because of the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria, and of the son of Remaliah. 5 Inasmuch as Syria hath taken evil counsel against thee, Ephraim also and the son of Remaliah, saying, 6 Let us go up against Judah, and harass it, and make a breach therein for us, and set up a king therein — the son of Tabeal; 7 thus saith the Lord Jehovah: It shall not stand, nor come to pass; 8 for the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within sixty-five years shall Ephraim be broken, so as to be no more a people; 9 and the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If ye believe not, surely ye shall not be established.

10 And Jehovah spoke again to Ahaz, saying, 11 Ask for thee a sign from Jehovah thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim ask for it in the deep, or in the height above. 12 And Ahaz said, I will not ask, and will not tempt Jehovah. 13 And he said, Hear then, house of David: Is it a small matter for you to weary men, that ye weary also my God*GodHebrew: Elohim14 Therefore will the Lord himself give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and shall bring forth a son, and call his name Immanuel. 15 Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and to choose the good. 16 For before the child knoweth to refuse the evil and to choose the good, the land whose two kings thou fearest shall be forsaken.

17 Jehovah will bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father’s house, days which have not come since the day when Ephraim turned away from Judah — even the king of Assyria. 18 And it shall come to pass in that day, that Jehovah will hiss for the fly which is at the extremity of the streams of Egypt, and for the bee which is in the land of Assyria; 19 and they shall come and settle all of them in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks, and on all thorn-bushes, and on all the pastures. 20 In that day will the Lord, with a razor which is hired beyond the river, with the king of Assyria, shave the head and the hair of the feet, yea, the beard also will it take away. 21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a man shall nourish a young cow and two sheep, 22 and it shall come to pass, from the abundance of milk they shall give, that he shall eat butter; for every one that remaineth in the midst of the land shall eat butter and honey. 23 And it shall come to pass in that day, that every place, where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silver pieces, shall become briars and thorns: 24 with arrows and with the bow shall they come thither, for the whole land shall become briars and thorns. 25 And all mountains that have been dug up with the hoe — thither will they not come, from fear of briars and thorns; and they shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the treading of small cattle.

1 S-a întâmplat, pe vremea lui Ahaz*2 Împ. 16:5.2 Cron. 28:5,6., fiul lui Iotam, fiul lui Ozia, împăratul lui Iuda, că Rețin, împăratul Siriei, s-a suit cu Pecah, fiul lui Remalia, împăratul lui Israel, împotriva Ierusalimului, ca să-l bată, dar n-a putut să-l bată. 2 Când au venit și au spus casei lui David: „Sirienii au tăbărât în Efraim", a tremurat inima lui Ahaz și inima poporului său, cum se clatină copacii din pădure când bate vântul. 3 Atunci Domnul a zis lui Isaia: „Ieși înaintea lui Ahaz, tu și fiul tău Șear-Iașub*Cap. 10:21., la capătul canalului*2 Împ. 18:17. Cap. 36:2. de apă al iazului de sus, pe drumul care duce la ogorul înălbitorului, 4 și spune-i: ‘Ia seama și fii liniștit; nu te teme de nimic și să nu ți se înmoaie inima din pricina acestor două cozi de tăciuni care fumegă: din pricina mâniei lui Rețin și a Siriei și din pricina fiului lui Remalia! 5 Nu te teme că Siria gândește rău împotriva ta și că Efraim și fiul lui Remalia zic: 6 «Să ne suim împotriva lui Iuda, să batem cetatea, s-o spargem și să punem împărat în ea pe fiul lui Tabeel!» 7 Căci așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeu: «Așa*Prov. 21:30. Cap. 8:10. ceva nu se va întâmpla și nu va avea loc. 8 Căci*2 Sam. 8:6. Damascul va fi capitala Siriei și Rețin va fi capitala Damascului. Și peste șaizeci și cinci de ani, Efraim va fi nimicit și nu va mai fi un popor. 9 Samaria va fi capitala lui Efraim, și fiul lui Remalia va fi capul Samariei. Dacă*2 Cron. 20:20. nu credeți, nu veți sta în picioare.»’" 10 Domnul a vorbit din nou lui Ahaz și i-a zis: 11 „Cere*Jud. 6:36.Mat. 12:38. un semn de la Domnul Dumnezeul tău; cere-l fie în locurile de jos, fie în locurile de sus!" 12 Ahaz a răspuns: „Nu vreau să cer nimic, ca să nu ispitesc pe Domnul." 13 Isaia a zis atunci: „Ascultați totuși, casa lui David! Nu vă ajunge oare să obosiți răbdarea oamenilor, de mai obosiți și pe a Dumnezeului meu? 14 De aceea Domnul Însuși vă va da un semn: ‘Iată, fecioara*Mat. 1:23.Luca 1:31,34. va rămâne însărcinată, va naște un*Cap. 9:6. fiu și-i va pune numele Emanuel*Cap. 8:8.(Dumnezeu este cu noi). 15 El va mânca smântână și miere până va ști să lepede răul și să aleagă binele. 16 Dar*Cap. 8:4., înainte ca să știe copilul să lepede răul și să aleagă binele, țara de ai cărei doi*2 Împ. 15:30;16:9. împărați te temi tu va fi pustiită. 17 Domnul*2 Cron. 28:19. va aduce peste tine, peste poporul tău și peste casa tatălui tău zile cum n-au mai fost niciodată din ziua când s-a*1 Împ. 12:16. despărțit Efraim de Iuda (adică pe împăratul Asiriei).’ 18 În ziua aceea, Domnul va șuiera*Cap. 5:26. muștelor de la capătul râurilor Egiptului și albinelor din țara Asiriei; 19 ele vor veni și se vor așeza toate în vâlcelele pustii și în crăpăturile*Cap. 2:19.Ier. 16:16. stâncilor, pe toate tufișurile și pe toate imașurile. 20 În ziua aceea, Domnul va rade, cu un brici*2 Împ. 16:7,8.2 Cron. 28:20,21.Ezec. 5:1. luat cu chirie de dincolo de râu, și anume cu împăratul Asiriei, capul și părul de pe picioare; ba va rade chiar și barba. 21 În ziua aceea, fiecare va hrăni numai o juncă și două oi 22 și vor da un așa belșug de lapte, încât vor mânca smântână, căci cu smântână și cu miere se vor hrăni toți cei ce vor rămâne în țară. 23 În ziua aceea, orice loc care va avea o mie de butuci de viță, prețuind o mie de sicli de argint, va*Cap. 5:6. fi lăsat pradă mărăcinilor și spinilor: 24 vor intra acolo cu săgeți și cu arcul, căci toată țara nu va fi decât mărăcini și spini. 25 Și toți munții lucrați cu cazmaua acum nu vor mai fi cutreierați, de frica mărăcinilor și a spinilor; vor da drumul boilor în ei și îi vor bătători oile."
