1 A Psalm of David.2 Contend, O LORD, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me!3 Take hold of shield and buckler, and rise for my help!4 Draw the spear and javelin against my pursuers! Say to my soul, "I am your deliverance!"5 Let them be put to shame and dishonor who seek after my life! Let them be turned back and confounded who devise evil against me!6 Let them be like chaff before the wind, with the angel of the LORD driving them on!7 Let their way be dark and slippery, with the angel of the LORD pursuing them!8 For without cause they hid their net for me; without cause they dug a pit for my life.9 Let ruin come upon them unawares! And let the net which they hid ensnare them; let them fall therein to ruin!10 Then my soul shall rejoice in the LORD, exulting in his deliverance.11 All my bones shall say, "O LORD, who is like thee, thou who deliverest the weak from him who is too strong for him, the weak and needy from him who despoils him?"12 Malicious witnesses rise up; they ask me of things that I know not.13 They requite me evil for good; my soul is forlorn.14 But I, when they were sick-- I wore sackcloth, I afflicted myself with fasting. I prayed with head bowed on my bosom,15 as though I grieved for my friend or my brother; I went about as one who laments his mother, bowed down and in mourning.16 But at my stumbling they gathered in glee, they gathered together against me; cripples whom I knew not slandered me without ceasing;17 they impiously mocked more and more, gnashing at me with their teeth.18 How long, O LORD, wilt thou look on? Rescue me from their ravages, my life from the lions!19 Then I will thank thee in the great congregation; in the mighty throng I will praise thee.20 Let not those rejoice over me who are wrongfully my foes, and let not those wink the eye who hate me without cause.21 For they do not speak peace, but against those who are quiet in the land they conceive words of deceit.22 They open wide their mouths against me; they say, "Aha, Aha! our eyes have seen it!"23 Thou hast seen, O LORD; be not silent! O Lord, be not far from me!24 Bestir thyself, and awake for my right, for my cause, my God and my Lord!25 Vindicate me, O LORD, my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me!26 Let them not say to themselves, "Aha, we have our heart's desire!" Let them not say, "We have swallowed him up."27 Let them be put to shame and confusion altogether who rejoice at my calamity! Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves against me!28 Let those who desire my vindication shout for joy and be glad, and say evermore, "Great is the LORD, who delights in the welfare of his servant!" [ (Psalms 35:29) Then my tongue shall tell of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long. ]

1 Ó Senhor Deus,

ataca os que me atacam

e combate os que me combatem!

2 Pega o teu escudo

e a tua armadura

e vem me ajudar.

3 Pega a tua lança

e o teu machado de guerra

e luta contra os que me perseguem.

Dá-me a certeza de que vais

me salvar.

4 Que sejam derrotados e humilhados

aqueles que me querem matar!

Que fujam envergonhados

os que fazem planos contra mim!

5 Que sejam como a palha

soprada pelo vento,

quando o Anjo do Senhor

os atacar!

6 Que o caminho deles

fique escuro e escorregadio

quando o Anjo do Senhor

os perseguir!

7 Pois, sem motivo nenhum,

armaram uma armadilha para mim;

cavaram uma cova funda

para me pegar.

8 Porém, quando menos esperarem,

virá a destruição.

Eles serão apanhados

pelas suas próprias armadilhas;

cairão nelas e serão destruídos.

9 Então eu me alegrarei

por causa do que o Senhor Deus

tem feito;

ficarei feliz porque ele me salvou

da morte.

10 Com todo o coração eu lhe direi:

"Não há ninguém como tu,

ó Senhor!

Tu proteges os fracos

quando são atacados pelos fortes

e livras os pobres e os necessitados

das mãos dos exploradores."

11 Homens maus testemunham contra mim

e me acusam de crimes que não cometi.

12 O bem que faço

eles me pagam com o mal,

e por isso estou desesperado.

13 Mas, quando eles estavam doentes,

eu vesti roupas de luto

e até deixei de comer.

Curvei a cabeça e orei por eles.

14 Orei como se fosse

por um amigo ou um irmão.

Eu andava curvado, de luto,

como quem chora por sua própria mãe.

15 Porém, quando eu estava aflito,

eles se alegravam

e ficavam em volta de mim, zombando.

Pessoas desconhecidas me bateram

e me feriram várias vezes.

16 Como homens que zombam de um coxo,

eles zombaram de mim

e me olharam feio, com ódio.

17 Ó Senhor, até quando

ficarás apenas olhando?

Livra-me dos ataques deles;

salva a minha vida desses leões.

18 Então eu te agradecerei em público;

eu te louvarei no meio da multidão.

19 Não deixes que os meus inimigos,

aqueles mentirosos,

se alegrem com a minha derrota!

Não permitas

que os que me odeiam sem motivo

fiquem rindo, felizes,

por causa da minha desgraça!

20 Eles não falam como amigos;

pelo contrário, inventam

acusações falsas

contra as pessoas que amam a paz.

21 Eles me acusam e gritam:

"Nós vimos o que você fez!"

22 Mas tu, ó Senhor Deus,

tens visto isso.

Então não te cales, Senhor,

e não fiques longe de mim!

23 Acorda, Senhor,

para me fazeres justiça!

Levanta-te, meu Deus,

e defende a minha causa!

24 Ó Senhor Deus, tu és justo;

por isso, declara que estou inocente.

Ó meu Deus, não deixes

que os meus inimigos

se alegrem à minha custa!

25 Não deixes que eles digam:

"Nós acabamos com ele.

Era isso mesmo o que queríamos."

26 Que sejam completamente

derrotados e envergonhados

aqueles que se alegram

com o meu sofrimento!

Que fiquem cobertos

de vergonha e de desgraça

os que dizem que são melhores

do que eu!

27 Porém que gritem de alegria

os que desejam

que eu seja declarado inocente!

Que eles digam sempre:

"Como é grande o Senhor!

Ele está contente porque tudo

vai bem com o seu servo."

28 Então anunciarei a tua fidelidade

e te louvarei o dia inteiro.
