1 Ao mestre de canto. Não destruas. Cântico de Davi. Será que realmente fazeis justiça, ó poderosos do mundo? Será que julgais pelo direito, ó filhos dos homens?2 Não, pois em vossos corações cometeis iniqüidades, e vossas mãos distribuem injustiças sobre a terra.3 Desde o seio materno se extraviaram os ímpios, desde o seu nascimento se desgarraram os mentirosos.4 Semelhante ao das serpentes é o seu veneno, ao veneno da víbora surda que fecha os ouvidos5 para não ouvir a voz dos fascinadores, do mágico que enfeitiça habilmente.6 Ó Deus, quebrai-lhes os dentes na própria boca; parti as presas dos leões, ó Senhor.7 Que eles se dissipem como as águas que correm, e fiquem suas flechas despontadas.8 Passem como o caracol que deslizando se consome, sejam como o feto abortivo que não verá o sol.9 Antes que os espinhos cheguem a aquecer vossas panelas, que o turbilhão os arrebate enquanto estão ainda verdes.10 O justo terá a alegria de ver o castigo dos ímpios, e lavará os pés no sangue deles.11 E os homens dirão: Sim, há recompensa para o justo; sim, há um Deus para julgar a terra.

1 To the Overcomer [upon], Do not destroy, Michtam of David. Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of Adam?2 Yea, in heart ye work iniquity; ye weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.3 The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies.4 Their poison [is] like the poison of a serpent; [they are] like the deaf adder [that] stops her ear,5 which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely.6 Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth; break out the great teeth of the young lions, O LORD.7 Let them melt away as waters [which] run continually; [when] he bends [his bow to shoot] his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces.8 As a snail [which] melts, let [them] pass away, [like] the untimely birth of a woman, [that] they may not see the sun.9 Before your pots can feel the [fire of the] thorns, he shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both living, and in [his] wrath.10 The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.11 So that a man shall say, Verily [there is] a reward for the righteous; verily there is a God that judges in the earth.:
