O cativeiro é representado pelo símbolo dum cinto de linho

1 Assim me disse Jeová: Vai, *Jr 13.11;Jr 19.1;27.2;Ez 4.1compra-te um cinto de linho e põe-no sobre os teus lombos, porém não o metas na água. 2 Comprei, pois, um cinto *Is 20.2;Ez 2.8conforme a palavra de Jeová e o pus sobre os meus lombos. 3 Pela segunda vez, veio-me a palavra de Jeová, dizendo: 4 Toma o cinto que compraste, o qual está sobre os teus lombos; levanta-te, vai ao *Jr 51.63Eufrates e esconde-o ali na fenda duma pedra. 5 Fui, pois, e escondi-o junto ao Eufrates, *Êx 39.42-43;40.16como Jeová me ordenou. 6 Passados muitos dias, disse-me Jeová: Levanta-te, vai ao Eufrates e toma dali o cinto que te ordenei que o escondesses ali. 7 Então, fui ao Eufrates, cavei e tomei o cinto do lugar em que o havia escondido; eis que já tinha apodrecido o cinto e para nada prestava.

8 Então, me veio a palavra de Jeová, dizendo: 9 Assim diz Jeová: Deste mesmo modo, farei apodrecer *Jr 13.15-17;Lv 26.19;Is 2.10-17;23.9;Sf 3.11a soberba de Judá e muita soberba de Jerusalém. 10 Este povo mau, *Jr 11.8,10;Nm 14.11;2Cr 36.15-16que recusa ouvir as minhas palavras, que anda na obstinação do seu coração e já se foi após outros deuses para os servir e para os adorar, será tal qual este cinto, que para nada presta. 11 Pois assim como se une o cinto aos lombos dum homem, assim fiz *Êx 19.5-6;Dt 32.10-11unir-se a mim toda a casa de Israel e toda a casa de Judá, diz Jeová, para que me fossem *Jr 7.23por povo, e *Jr 32.20por nome, *Jr 33.9;Is 43.21e por louvor, e por glória. Porém *Jr 7.13,24,26;Sl 81.11não quiseram ouvir.

O símbolo da vasilha cheia

12 Portanto, lhes dirás esta palavra: Assim diz Jeová, Deus de Israel: Toda a vasilha se encherá de vinho; e responder-te-ão: Acaso, não sabemos que toda vasilha se encherá de vinho? 13 Então, lhes dirás: Assim diz Jeová: Eis que vou encher de *Jr 25.27;51.57;Sl 60.3;75.8embriaguez a todos os habitantes desta terra, isto é, aos reis que se assentam sobre o trono de Davi, e aos sacerdotes, e aos profetas, e a todos os habitantes de Jerusalém. 14 *Jr 19.9-11;Is 9.20-21Atirá-los-ei uns contra outros, *Jr 6.21;Ez 5.10os pais bem como os filhos, diz Jeová; *Jr 16.5;21.7;Dt 29.20;Is 27.11não perdoarei, nem pouparei, nem serei movido de compaixão, nada me impedirá de os destruir.

15 Ouvi e dai ouvidos; não vos *Pv 16.5;Is 28.14-22ensoberbeçais; porque Jeová falou. 16 *Sl 96.8Dai glória a Jeová, vosso Deus, antes que ele *Is 5.30;59.9;Am 5.18faça vir as trevas, e antes que tropecem *Jr 23.12;Pv 4.19os vossos pés nos montes tenebrosos, antes que mude a luz *Jr 2.6;Sl 107.10,14em sombra de morte, e a converta em escuridão, estando vós esperando por ela. 17 Mas, *Ml 2.2se o não ouvirdes, *Jr 9.1;14.17;Sl 119.136;Lc 19.41-42chorará em segredo a minha alma por causa da vossa soberba; os meus olhos chorarão amargamente e se desfarão em lágrimas, porque *Jr 23.1-2;Sl 80.1o rebanho de Jeová será levado cativo.

18 Dize ao *Jr 22.26;2Rs 24.12,15rei e à rainha-mãe: *2Cr 33.12,19Humilhai-vos, sentai-vos no chão, porque da vossa cabeça já caiu *Êx 39.28;Is 3.20;Ez 24.17,23;44.18a coroa da vossa glória. 19 Fechadas estão *Jr 32.44as cidades do Neguebe, e não há quem as abra; *Jr 20.4;52.27-30Judá, todo ele, é levado cativo, inteiramente cativo.

Ameaças de cativeiro

20 Levantai os vossos olhos e vede os que *Jr 1.15;6.22;Hc 1.6vêm do Norte; onde está o *Jr 13.17;Jr 23.2rebanho que te foi confiado, o teu lindo rebanho? 21 *Jr 5.31Que dirás, quando ele puser por cabeça sobre ti os que ensinaste a serem *Jr 2.25;38.22teus amigos? Não te tomarão *Jr 4.31;Is 13.8as dores, como as duma mulher que está de parto? 22 Se *Dt 7.17disseres no teu coração: *Jr 5.19;16.10Por que me sobrevieram essas coisas? Pela *Jr 2.17-19;9.2-9grandeza da tua iniquidade foram descobertas as tuas fraldas, e fez-se violência aos teus calcanhares. 23 *Pv 27.22;Is 1.5;Mt 19.24Acaso, pode o etíope mudar a sua pele ou o leopardo, as suas malhas? Então, podereis também vós *Jr 4.22;9.5fazer o bem, os quais sois acostumados a fazer o mal. 24 Por isso, os *Jr 9.16;Lv 26.33;Ez 5.2,12espalharei como o restolho que passa arrebatado pelo *Jr 4.11;18.17vento do deserto. 25 Esta é a tua *Sl 11.6;Mt 24.51sorte, a porção *Jr 2.32;3.21;Sl 9.17;106.21-22que te é medida por mim, diz Jeová, porque te esqueceste de mim e confiaste na mentira. 26 Portanto, também *Lm 1.8eu levantarei as tuas fraldas sobre o teu rosto, e aparecerá a tua vergonha. 27 Tenho visto as tuas abominações sobre os *Jr 2.20outeiros no campo, a saber, os *Jr 5.7-8teus adultérios, os teus rinchos, e *Jr 11.15a luxúria da tua prostituição. Ai de ti, Jerusalém! *Pv 1.22;Os 8.5Quanto tempo haverá ainda, antes que *Jr 4.14;Ez 24.13te purifiques?

1 Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water. 2 So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins. 3 And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, 4 Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock. 5 So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me. 6 And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there. 7 Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing. 8 Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 9 Thus saith the LORD, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem. 10 This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.*13.10 imagination: or, stubbornness 11 For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

12 Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine? 13 Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David’s throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness. 14 And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.*13.14 one…: Heb. a man against his brother*13.14 but…: Heb. from destroying them

15 Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken. 16 Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness. 17 But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD’s flock is carried away captive. 18 Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory.*13.18 principalities: or, head tires 19 The cities of the south shall be shut up, and none shall open them: Judah shall be carried away captive all of it, it shall be wholly carried away captive. 20 Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock? 21 What wilt thou say when he shall punish thee? for thou hast taught them to be captains, and as chief over thee: shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in travail?*13.21 punish: Heb visit upon

22 And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, and thy heels made bare.*13.22 made…: or, shall be violently taken away 23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.*13.23 accustomed: Heb. taught 24 Therefore will I scatter them as the stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness. 25 This is thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the LORD; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood. 26 Therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear. 27 I have seen thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, and thine abominations on the hills in the fields.
