Jeremias 4

1 *Jr 3.22;Jl 2.12Se voltares, Israel, diz Jeová, voltarás para mim; *Jr 7.3,7;15.19;35.15se tirares de diante da minha face as tuas abominações, não serás removido. 2 *Jr 12.16;Dt 10.20;Is 65.16Se jurares em verdade, em juízo e em justiça: Pela vida de Jeová; então, nele se bendirão *Jr 3.17;12.15-16;Gn 22.18as nações e *Jr 9.24;Is 45.25nele se glorificarão.

A invasão estrangeira anunciada e descrita

3 Pois assim diz Jeová aos homens de Judá e a Jerusalém: *Os 10.12Lavrai o vosso terreno que está em alqueive e não semeeis entre espinhos. 4 *Jr 9.25-26;Dt 10.16;30.6;Rm 2.28-29Circuncidai-vos a Jeová e tirai os prepúcios do vosso coração, homens de Judá e habitantes de Jerusalém; *Jr 21.12;Is 30.27,33para que o meu furor não saia como fogo e arda de modo *Am 5.6;Mc 9.43,48que ninguém o possa apagar, por causa da maldade dos vossos feitos.

5 Anunciai em Judá e publicai em Jerusalém; dizei: *Jr 6.1;Os 8.1Tocai a trombeta na terra; gritai em alta voz e dizei: *Jr 8.14;Js 10.20Ajuntai-vos, e entremos nas cidades fortificadas. 6 Arvorai um *Jr 4.21;Jr 50.2;Is 62.10estandarte em direção de Sião; recolhei os vossos bens em lugar seguro, não demoreis; porque *Jr 1.14-15;6.1-22eu vou trazer um leão e grande destruição. 7 Um *Jr 5.6;25.38;50.17leão já subiu da sua ramada, e um *Jr 25.9;Ez 26.7-10destruidor das nações já partiu e saiu do seu lugar *Jr 2.15;Is 1.7;6.11para fazer a tua terra uma desolação, a fim de que sejam assoladas as tuas cidades e fiquem sem habitantes. 8 Por isso, *Jr 6.26;Is 22.12cingi-vos de saco, lamentai e uivai, porque não se apartou de nós *Jr 30.24;Is 5.25;10.4o ardor da ira de Jeová. 9 Sucederá, naquele dia, diz Jeová, que desfalecerá *Jr 48.41;Is 22.3-5o coração do rei e o coração dos príncipes; pasmarão os sacerdotes, e *Is 29.9-10;Ez 13.9-16os profetas serão consternados.

10 Disse eu: Ah! Senhor Jeová! Na verdade, *Ez 14.9;2Ts 2.11enganaste grandemente a este povo e a Jerusalém, dizendo: *Jr 5.12;14.13Vós tereis paz; porquanto a espada chega até a alma.

11 Naquele tempo, se dirá a este povo e a Jerusalém: *Jr 13.24;51.1;Ez 17.10;Os 13.15Um vento abrasador, vindo dos altos escalvados no deserto, aproxima-se da filha do meu povo, não para cirandar, nem para alimpar; 12 vento demasiado forte para essas coisas virá da minha parte; agora, também *Jr 1.16pronunciarei eu juízos contra eles. 13 Eis que *Is 19.1;Na 1.3virá subindo como nuvens, e os seus *Is 5.28;66.15carros serão como o torvelinho; os seus cavalos são *Lm 4.19mais velozes do que águias. Ai de nós! Porque *Is 3.8somos despojados. 14 Ó Jerusalém, *Is 1.16;Tg 4.8lava da malícia o teu coração, para que sejas salva. Até quando permanecerão em ti *Jr 6.19;13.27;Pv 1.22os teus maus pensamentos? 15 Pois uma voz anuncia *Jr 8.16desde Dã e proclama a calamidade desde os montes de Efraim! 16 Fazei disto menção às nações; eis, proclamai contra Jerusalém que *Jr 5.15;Is 39.3de um país remoto vêm *Jr 4.17;Jr 5.6vigias e *Ez 21.22levantam a voz contra as cidades de Judá. 17 Como guardas de campos estão *2Rs 25.1,4contra ela ao redor, porque contra mim *Jr 5.23;Is 1.20,23se rebelaram, diz Jeová. 18 *Jr 2.17,19;Sl 107.17;Is 50.1O teu caminho e os teus feitos fizeram vir sobre ti essas coisas; esta é a tua malícia; certamente, é ela *Jr 2.19amarga; certamente, chega até o teu coração.

Lamentos por causa da devastação de Judá

19 *Jr 9.1,10;20.9;Is 15.5;16.11;21.3;22.4Minhas entranhas, minhas entranhas! Eu torço-me em dores. Paredes do meu coração! *Hc 3.16O meu coração aflige-se em mim. Não posso calar, porque ouviste, ó minha alma, *Nm 10.9a voz da trombeta, o alarido da guerra. 20 Proclama-se destruição sobre *Sl 42.7;Ez 7.26destruição, porque despojada está *Jr 4.27a terra toda; de repente, são *Jr 10.20destruídas as minhas tendas, e, num momento, as minhas cortinas. 21 Até quando verei *Jr 4.6o estandarte e ouvirei a voz da trombeta? 22 *Jr 5.4,21;10.8Pois o meu povo é néscio, a mim *Jr 2.8não me conhecem; são filhos insensatos e não têm entendimento; sábios são *Jr 9.3;13.23;Rm 16.19para fazerem o mal, porém não sabem fazer o bem.

23 Olhei para a terra, e eis que era *Gn 1.2;Is 24.19sem forma e vazia; e *Jr 4.28para os céus, e não havia neles luz. 24 Olhei para os montes, e eis que *Jr 10.10;Is 5.25;Ez 38.20tremiam, e todos os outeiros se agitavam. 25 Olhei, e eis que não havia homem, e todas *Jr 9.10;12.4;Sf 1.3as aves do céu tinham fugido. 26 Olhei, e eis que *Jr 9.10a terra de jardins era um deserto, e todas as suas cidades estavam demolidas diante de Jeová e diante do ardor da sua ira.

27 Pois assim diz Jeová: Desolada ficará *Jr 12.11-12;25.11a terra toda; contudo, *Jr 5.10,18;30.11;46.28não a destruirei totalmente. 28 Por isso, *Jr 12.4,11;14.2;Os 4.3pranteará a terra, e *Is 5.30;50.3;Jl 2.30-31se enegrecerão os céus de cima; porque *Jr 23.20;30.24;Nm 23.19falei, resolvi e não me arrependi, nem disso desistirei. 29 *Jr 6.23Foge a cidade toda por causa do tumulto dos cavaleiros e flecheiros; *Jr 16.16;Is 2.19-21entram os homens nas ramadas e trepam pelos penhascos; *Jr 4.7todas as cidades ficam desamparadas, e ninguém habita nelas. 30 Tu, sendo despojada, *Jr 13.21;Is 10.3;20.6que farás? Embora te vistas de escarlate, embora te enfeites de adornos de ouro, embora *2Rs 9.30;Ez 23.40pintes os teus olhos com o antimônio, em vão te enfeitas; desprezam-te *Jr 22.20,22;Ez 23.9-10,22os teus amantes, procuram tirar-te a vida. 31 Pois ouvi uma voz como *Jr 13.21;22.23;30.6a duma mulher que está de parto, angústia como a de quem dá à luz o seu primogênito, a voz da filha de Sião, que *Is 42.14está ofegante, *Is 1.15;Lm 1.17que estende as mãos, dizendo: Ai de mim agora! Porque a minha alma desfalece por causa dos assassinos.

1 If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return unto me: and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove. 2 And thou shalt swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.

3 For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns. 4 Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

5 Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the defenced cities. 6 Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.*4.6 retire: or, strengthen*4.6 destruction: Heb. breaking 7 The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant. 8 For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and howl: for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us. 9 And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder. 10 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword reacheth unto the soul. 11 At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A dry wind of the high places in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to fan, nor to cleanse, 12 Even a full wind from those places shall come unto me: now also will I give sentence against them.*4.12 a full…: or, a fuller wind than those*4.12 give…: Heb. utter judgments 13 Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as a whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us! for we are spoiled. 14 O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee? 15 For a voice declareth from Dan, and publisheth affliction from mount Ephraim. 16 Make ye mention to the nations; behold, publish against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah. 17 As keepers of a field, are they against her round about; because she hath been rebellious against me, saith the LORD. 18 Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.

19 My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.*4.19 my very…: Heb. the walls of my heart 20 Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is spoiled: suddenly are my tents spoiled, and my curtains in a moment. 21 How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet? 22 For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge. 23 I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. 24 I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. 25 I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. 26 I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger. 27 For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end. 28 For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it. 29 The whole city shall flee for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen; they shall go into thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city shall be forsaken, and not a man dwell therein. 30 And when thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.*4.30 face: Heb. eyes 31 For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, and the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, that bewaileth herself, that spreadeth her hands, saying, Woe is me now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.
