Profecia contra Moabe

1 A respeito de Moabe. Assim diz Jeová dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel: Ai de *Jr 48.22;Nm 32.3,37Nebo! porque está devastado; envergonhada está *Jr 48.23;Nm 32.37;Ez 25.9Quiriataim, está tomada; Misgabe está envergonhada e espantada. 2 O louvor de Moabe já não existe mais; em *Jr 48.34,45;Jr 49.3;Nm 21.25Hesbom formaram maus desígnios contra ela dizendo: Vinde, exterminemo-la para que não seja mais uma nação. Também tu, ó Madmém, serás reduzida ao silêncio; a espada te perseguirá. 3 Um grito soa de *Jr 48.5,34;Is 15.5Horonaim, estrago e grande destruição! 4 Destruído está Moabe; os seus pobrezinhos fizeram ouvir um clamor. 5 Pois pela subida de *Is 15.5Luíte subirão com choro contínuo; na descida de Horonaim ouviram a angústia do grito da destruição. 6 *Jr 51.6Fugi, salvai as vossas vidas, e tornai-vos como um *Jr 17.6junípero no deserto. 7 Pois, porquanto *Jr 9.23;Is 59.4confiaste nas tuas obras e nos teus tesouros, também tu serás tomada; irá *Jr 48.13,46;Nm 21.29;1Rs 11.33Camos para o cativeiro juntamente com os seus sacerdotes e os seus príncipes. 8 O espoliador virá sobre todas as cidades, e nenhuma escapará; também perecerá o vale, e será destruída a *Js 13.9,17,21planície; como Jeová o disse. 9 Dai *Jr 48.28;Sl 11.1;Is 16.2asas a Moabe, porque tem de fugir. As suas cidades se tornarão *Jr 44.22em desolação sem que haja quem nelas habite. 10 *Jr 11.3Maldito seja quem fizer *1Sm 15.3,9;1Rs 20.42;2Rs 13.19negligentemente a obra de Jeová, e maldito quem vedar do sangue *Jr 47.6-7a sua espada!

11 Moabe tem estado *Jr 22.21;Zc 1.15sossegado desde a sua mocidade, *Sf 1.12e tem repousado nas suas fezes, e não tem sido *Na 2.2deitado de vasilha em vasilha, nem tem ido para o cativeiro; por isso conserva o seu sabor, e o *Ez 16.49-50seu cheiro não se muda. 12 Portanto eis que vêm os dias, diz Jeová, em que lhe enviarei *Na 2.2trasfegadores, que o trasfegarão; despejarão as suas vasilhas, e *Jr 25.34despedaçarão os seus jarros. 13 Moabe terá *Jr 48.39;Is 45.16vergonha de *Jr 48.7Camos, como a casa de Israel teve vergonha de *1Rs 12.29;Os 8.5-6Betel, sua confiança. 14 Como dizeis: *Sl 33.16;Is 10.13-16Valentes somos e homens fortes para a guerra? 15 Devastado está Moabe, entradas as suas cidades, os seus *Is 40.30-31mancebos escolhidos *Jr 50.27desceram à matança, diz o *Jr 46.18Rei, cujo nome é Jeová dos exércitos. 16 *Is 13.22Está prestes a chegar a calamidade de Moabe, e vem vindo a largos passos a sua aflição. 17 *Jr 9.17-20Condoei-vos dele, todos os que estais ao redor dele, e todos os que sabeis o seu nome; dizei: Como *Is 14.5se fez em pedaços a vara forte, o báculo formoso! 18 *Jr 46.19Ó filha que habitas em *Jr 48.22;Js 13.9,17Dibom, *Is 47.1desce da tua glória, e senta-te sequiosa; porque o espoliador de Moabe é vindo contra ti, já destruiu as tuas fortalezas. 19 Põe-te junto ao caminho, e espia, ó moradora de *Dt 2.36;Js 12.2Aroer; *1Sm 4.13-14,16pergunta ao que foge e à que escapa: Que sucedeu? 20 Envergonhado está Moabe, porque está espantado; uivai e gritai; anunciai em Arnom que Moabe está devastado. 21 O juízo é vindo sobre *Jr 48.8a terra da campina; sobre Holom, e sobre *Jr 48.34;Nm 21.23;Is 15.4Jaza, e sobre *Js 13.18Mefaate, 22 sobre *Jr 48.18Dibom, e sobre *Jr 48.1Nebo, e sobre Bete-Diblataim, 23 sobre Quiriataim, e sobre Bete-Gamul, e sobre *Js 13.17Bete-Meom; 24 sobre *Jr 48.41;Am 2.2Queriote, e sobre *Jr 49.13Bozra, e sobre todas as cidades de Moabe, quer as de longe, quer as de perto. 25 Decepado está *Sl 75.10;Zc 1.19-21o chifre de Moabe, quebrado *Jó 22.9;Sl 10.15o seu braço, diz Jeová.

26 Embriagai-o, porque *Jr 48.42;Êx 5.2;Dn 5.23se engrandeceu contra Jeová; Moabe revolver-se-á no seu vômito, e tornar-se-á também objeto de ludíbrio. 27 Pois não se tornou Israel *Lm 2.15-17;Mq 7.8-10objeto de ludíbrio para ti? não foi ele achado *Jr 2.26entre ladrões? porquanto sempre que falas dele, *Jr 18.16;Jó 16.4meneias a cabeça. 28 Deixai as cidades, e habitai nos *Jr 49.16;Jz 6.2;Is 2.19;Ob 3penhascos, ó moradores de Moabe: sede como *Sl 55.6;Ct 2.14a pomba que faz o seu ninho nos lados da boca da caverna. 29 *Is 16.6;Sf 2.8Temos ouvido o orgulho de Moabe, que é orgulhoso em extremo, a sua sobranceria, *Jó 40.11-12;Sl 138.6o seu orgulho, a sua arrogância e a altivez do seu coração. 30 Eu sei, diz Jeová, *Is 37.28a sua indignação, que nada é; as suas jactâncias nada têm efetuado. 31 Portanto *Is 15.5;16.7,11uivarei por Moabe; gritarei por todo Moabe: pelos homens de *Jr 48.36;2Rs 3.25;Is 16.7,11Quir-Heres prantearei. 32 Com *Is 16.8-9choro maior do que o de Jazer te chorarei, ó vide de Sibma; os teus ramos passaram o mar, chegaram até o mar de *Nm 21.32Jazer; o espoliador lançou-se sobre os teus frutos de verão e sobre a tua vindima. 33 *Jr 25.10;Is 16.10;Jl 1.12A alegria e o gozo acham-se desterrados do campo fértil e da terra de Moabe; *Is 5.10;Ag 2.16fiz cessar dos lagares o vinho; ninguém com júbilo pisará as uvas; o júbilo não será júbilo. 34 *Is 15.4-6Do grito de Hesbom até *Nm 32.3,37Eleale, até *Jr 48.21Jaaz fizeram ouvir a sua voz, desde *Gn 13.10;14.2Zoar até *Jr 48.3Horonaim, até Eglate-Selisias; pois também as águas de Ninrim virão a ser desolação. 35 Demais, farei cessar em Moabe aquele que faz ofertas *Is 16.12no alto e *Jr 7.9;11.13queima incenso aos seus deuses.

36 Portanto o *Is 16.11meu coração ressoará como flautas por causa de Moabe, e o meu coração ressoará como flautas por causa dos homens de *Jr 48.31Quir-Heres, porque já pereceu *Is 15.7a abundância que ele adquiriu. 37 Pois *Jr 16.6;Is 15.2todas as cabeças são calvas, e todas as barbas rapadas: em todas as mãos há *Jr 41.5;47.5sarjaduras, e sobre os *Is 15.3;20.2lombos sacos. 38 Sobre todos os *Is 22.1eirados de Moabe, e em todas as suas praças há pranto por toda a parte; pois *Jr 19.10-11;25.34fiz a Moabe em pedaços como um vaso que não agrada, diz Jeová. 39 Como está espantado! como uivam! como vira as costas Moabe envergonhado! assim se tornará *Jr 48.26Moabe objeto de ludíbrio *Ez 26.16e de espanto a todos os que estiverem ao redor dele. 40 Pois assim diz Jeová: Eis que o inimigo *Jr 49.22;Os 8.1voará como uma águia, *Is 8.8e estenderá as suas asas contra Moabe. 41 Tomada está *Jr 48.24Queriote, ocupadas as fortalezas, e naquele dia será o *Jr 49.22coração dos valentes de Moabe como o coração da *Jr 30.6;Mq 4.9-10mulher que está com dores de parto. 42 Moabe será *Jr 48.2;Sl 83.4destruído para que não seja uma nação, porque *Jr 48.26;Is 37.23se engrandeceu contra Jeová. 43 *Is 24.17-18;Lm 3.47O pavor, e a cova, e o laço estão sobre ti, ó morador de Moabe, diz Jeová. 44 Quem *1Rs 19.17;Am 5.19fugir do pavor cairá na cova; e quem sair da cova será apanhado no laço; porque trarei sobre ele, sobre Moabe, o ano da sua *Jr 46.21visitação, diz Jeová.

45 À sombra de *Jr 48.2Hesbom param sem forças os que fugiram; porque *Nm 21.28-29o fogo saiu de Hesbom, e do meio de *Nm 21.21,26;Sl 135.11Seom a labareda; e devorou as *Nm 24.17fontes da cabeça de Moabe e o alto da cabeça dos filhos do tumulto. 46 Ai de ti, Moabe! desfeito está o povo de *Jr 48.7;Jz 11.24;1Rs 11.7Camos, porque teus filhos foram levados cativos, e tuas filhas para o cativeiro. 47 Contudo *Jr 12.14-17;49.6,39farei voltar o cativeiro de Moabe nos últimos dias, diz Jeová. Até aqui o juízo contra Moabe.

1 Against Moab thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Woe unto Nebo! for it is spoiled: Kiriathaim is confounded and taken: Misgab is confounded and dismayed.*48.1 Misgab: or, the high place 2 There shall be no more praise of Moab: in Heshbon they have devised evil against it; come, and let us cut it off from being a nation. Also thou shalt be cut down, O Madmen; the sword shall pursue thee.*48.2 be cut…: or, be brought to silence*48.2 pursue…: Heb. go after thee 3 A voice of crying shall be from Horonaim, spoiling and great destruction. 4 Moab is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard. 5 For in the going up of Luhith continual weeping shall go up; for in the going down of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction.*48.5 continual…: Heb. weeping with weeping 6 Flee, save your lives, and be like the heath in the wilderness.*48.6 the heath: or, a naked tree

7 For because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou shalt also be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity with his priests and his princes together. 8 And the spoiler shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape: the valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed, as the LORD hath spoken. 9 Give wings unto Moab, that it may flee and get away: for the cities thereof shall be desolate, without any to dwell therein. 10 Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood.*48.10 deceitfully: or, negligently

11 Moab hath been at ease from his youth, and he hath settled on his lees, and hath not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither hath he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed.*48.11 remained: Heb. stood 12 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will send unto him wanderers, that shall cause him to wander, and shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles. 13 And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Beth-el their confidence.

14 How say ye, We are mighty and strong men for the war? 15 Moab is spoiled, and gone up out of her cities, and his chosen young men are gone down to the slaughter, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.*48.15 his…: Heb. the choice of 16 The calamity of Moab is near to come, and his affliction hasteth fast. 17 All ye that are about him, bemoan him; and all ye that know his name, say, How is the strong staff broken, and the beautiful rod! 18 Thou daughter that dost inhabit Dibon, come down from thy glory, and sit in thirst; for the spoiler of Moab shall come upon thee, and he shall destroy thy strong holds. 19 O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and espy; ask him that fleeth, and her that escapeth, and say, What is done?*48.19 inhabitant: Heb. inhabitress 20 Moab is confounded; for it is broken down: howl and cry; tell ye it in Arnon, that Moab is spoiled, 21 And judgment is come upon the plain country; upon Holon, and upon Jahazah, and upon Mephaath, 22 And upon Dibon, and upon Nebo, and upon Beth-diblathaim, 23 And upon Kiriathaim, and upon Beth-gamul, and upon Beth-meon, 24 And upon Kerioth, and upon Bozrah, and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far or near. 25 The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, saith the LORD.

26 Make ye him drunken: for he magnified himself against the LORD: Moab also shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision. 27 For was not Israel a derision unto thee? was he found among thieves? for since thou spakest of him, thou skippedst for joy.*48.27 skippedst…: or, movedst thyself 28 O ye that dwell in Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the dove that maketh her nest in the sides of the hole’s mouth. 29 We have heard the pride of Moab, (he is exceeding proud) his loftiness, and his arrogancy, and his pride, and the haughtiness of his heart. 30 I know his wrath, saith the LORD; but it shall not be so; his lies shall not so effect it.*48.30 his lies…: or, those on whom he stayeth (Heb. his bars) do not right 31 Therefore will I howl for Moab, and I will cry out for all Moab; mine heart shall mourn for the men of Kir-heres. 32 O vine of Sibmah, I will weep for thee with the weeping of Jazer: thy plants are gone over the sea, they reach even to the sea of Jazer: the spoiler is fallen upon thy summer fruits and upon thy vintage. 33 And joy and gladness is taken from the plentiful field, and from the land of Moab; and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting; their shouting shall be no shouting. 34 From the cry of Heshbon even unto Elealeh, and even unto Jahaz, have they uttered their voice, from Zoar even unto Horonaim, as an heifer of three years old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be desolate.*48.34 desolate: Heb. desolations 35 Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, saith the LORD, him that offereth in the high places, and him that burneth incense to his gods. 36 Therefore mine heart shall sound for Moab like pipes, and mine heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kir-heres: because the riches that he hath gotten are perished. 37 For every head shall be bald, and every beard clipped: upon all the hands shall be cuttings, and upon the loins sackcloth.*48.37 clipped: Heb. diminished 38 There shall be lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Moab, and in the streets thereof: for I have broken Moab like a vessel wherein is no pleasure, saith the LORD. 39 They shall howl, saying, How is it broken down! how hath Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab be a derision and a dismaying to all them about him.*48.39 back: Heb. neck 40 For thus saith the LORD; Behold, he shall fly as an eagle, and shall spread his wings over Moab. 41 Kerioth is taken, and the strong holds are surprised, and the mighty men’s hearts in Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.*48.41 Kerioth: or, The cities 42 And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he hath magnified himself against the LORD. 43 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, shall be upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the LORD. 44 He that fleeth from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon it, even upon Moab, the year of their visitation, saith the LORD. 45 They that fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon because of the force: but a fire shall come forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and shall devour the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones.*48.45 tumultuous…: Heb. children of noise 46 Woe be unto thee, O Moab! the people of Chemosh perisheth: for thy sons are taken captives, and thy daughters captives.*48.46 captives, and: Heb. in captivity, etc

47 Yet will I bring again the captivity of Moab in the latter days, saith the LORD. Thus far is the judgment of Moab.
