Jeremias 18

O vaso do oleiro. A impenitência do povo

1 A palavra que veio da parte de Jeová a Jeremias, dizendo: 2 Levanta-te, *Jr 19.1-2desce à casa do oleiro, e lá *Jr 23.22te farei ouvir as minhas palavras. 3 Desci, pois, à casa do oleiro, e eis que ele estava ocupado com a sua obra sobre as rodas. 4 Quando se estragou nas suas mãos o vaso que o oleiro fazia de barro, tornou a fazer dele outro vaso, conforme pareceu bem aos seus olhos.

5 Então, veio a mim a palavra de Jeová, dizendo: 6 Acaso, não poderei fazer de vós, casa de Israel, como este oleiro? — diz Jeová. Eis que, como *Is 45.9;64.8;Mt 20.15;Rm 9.21o barro na mão do oleiro, assim sois vós na minha mão, ó casa de Israel. 7 No momento em que falar acerca duma nação e acerca de um reino, *Jr 1.10para arrancar, e para derrubar, e para destruir, 8 *Jr 7.3-7;12.16;Ez 18.21se aquela nação acerca da qual falei se converter do seu mal, *Jr 26.3,13,19;Sl 106.45;Os 11.8;Jl 2.13-14;Jn 3.9-10arrepender-me-ei do mal que intentei fazer-lhe. 9 No momento em que falar acerca duma nação e acerca dum reino, *Jr 1.10;31.28;Am 9.11-15para edificar e para plantar, 10 se fizer o *Jr 7.24-28;Sl 125.5;Ez 33.18mal diante dos meus olhos, não escutando a minha voz, *1Sm 2.30;13.13arrepender-me-ei do bem que disse-lhe faria. 11 Fala, agora, aos homens de Judá e aos habitantes de Jerusalém: Assim diz Jeová: Eis que *Jr 4.6;11.11;Is 5.5vou forjar mal contra vós e *Jr 18.18;Jr 11.19formar um projeto contra vós; *Jr 4.1;2Rs 17.13;Is 1.16-19;At 26.20convertei-vos, pois, cada um do seu mau caminho, e emendai os vossos caminhos e os vossos feitos. 12 Mas *Jr 2.25;Is 57.10eles dizem: Não há esperança; porque havemos de andar após os nossos projetos e havemos de fazer cada um *Jr 7.24;16.12;Dt 29.19conforme a obstinação do seu mau coração.

13 Portanto, assim diz Jeová: *Jr 2.10-11;Is 66.8Perguntai entre as nações: Quem ouviu tais coisas? A *Jr 14.17;31.4virgem de Israel fez uma coisa *Jr 5.30;23.14;Os 6.10sobremaneira horrenda. 14 Acaso, faltará da pedra do campo a neve do Líbano? Serão esgotadas as águas frias que vêm de longe? 15 Pois o meu *Jr 2.32;3.21povo se esqueceu de mim, *Jr 7.9;44.17;Is 65.7queimando incenso à vaidade, que os fez tropeçar nos seus caminhos, *Jr 6.16nas antigas veredas, para andarem por atalhos, por um caminho *Is 57.14;62.10não feito, 16 e para se tornar a terra deles *Jr 25.9;50.13;Ez 33.28-29em objeto de espanto e de perpétuos assobios. Todo o que passar por ela, ficará espantado e *Jr 48.27;Sl 22.7;Is 37.22meneará a cabeça. 17 Como por um vento oriental, *Jr 13.24;Jó 27.21os espalharei diante do inimigo; mostrar-lhes-ei *Jr 2.27;32.33as costas e não a face, *Jr 46.21no dia da sua calamidade.

18 Então, disseram: Vinde, e *Jr 18.11;Jr 11.19formemos projetos contra Jeremias, porque do sacerdote não *Jr 2.8;Ml 2.7perecerá a lei, nem do sábio, *Jr 8.8;Jó 5.13o conselho, nem do profeta, *Jr 5.13a palavra. *Jr 20.10;Sl 52.2Vinde, e firamo-lo com a língua *Jr 43.2e não atendamos a nenhuma das suas palavras.

Jeremias ora contra seus inimigos

19 Atende-me, Jeová, e ouve a voz dos que pleiteiam comigo. 20 Acaso, se tornará mal por bem? Porque *Jr 18.22;Jr 5.26;Sl 35.7;57.6cavaram uma cova para a minha alma. Lembra-te de como *Sl 106.23me apresentei diante de ti para falar a favor deles e para apartar deles o teu furor. 21 Portanto, *Jr 11.22;14.16;Sl 109.9-20entrega seus filhos à fome e põe-nos no poder da espada; fiquem as suas mulheres *1Sm 15.33;Is 13.18sem filhos e *Jr 15.8;Ez 22.25viúvas, sejam os seus homens mortos de morte, *Jr 9.21;11.22e os seus membros, feridos à espada na peleja. 22 Seja ouvido *Jr 6.26;25.34,36o clamor que vem das suas casas, quando fizeres vir, de repente, tropas sobre eles; *Jr 18.20porque cavaram uma cova para me prenderem e *Sl 140.5esconderam laços para os meus pés. 23 Contudo, Jeová, tu sabes todo o seu *Jr 11.21;26.8,11;37.15,20;38.4,9conselho contra mim para me matar; *Sl 109.14;Is 2.9não perdoes a sua iniquidade, nem apagues o seu pecado de diante da tua face. Mas sejam eles *Jr 6.15,21derrubados diante de ti; procede contra eles *Jr 7.20;17.4no tempo da tua ira.

1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. 3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.*18.3 wheels: or, frames, or, seats 4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.*18.4 of clay…: or, was marred, as clay in the hand of the potter*18.4 made it…: Heb. returned and made, etc 5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel. 7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; 8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them. 9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; 10 If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.

11 Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good. 12 And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart. 13 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing. 14 Will a man leave the snow of Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field? or shall the cold flowing waters that come from another place be forsaken?*18.14 the snow…: or, my fields for a rock, or for the snow of Lebanon? shall the running waters be forsaken for the strange cold waters? 15 Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up; 16 To make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished, and wag his head. 17 I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will shew them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.

18 Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.*18.18 with…: or, for the tongue 19 Give heed to me, O LORD, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me. 20 Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them, and to turn away thy wrath from them. 21 Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle.*18.21 pour…: Heb. pour them out 22 Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them: for they have digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet. 23 Yet, LORD, thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay me: forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee; deal thus with them in the time of thine anger.*18.23 to slay…: Heb. for death
