Jeremias intercede pelo povo

1 A palavra de Jeová que veio a Jeremias a respeito da *Jr 17.8seca.

2 *Jr 4.28;Is 3.26;Jl 1.10Pranteia Judá, e desfalecem as suas portas, sentam-se de *Jr 8.21luto no chão, e já subiu *Jr 11.11;46.12;Zc 7.13o clamor de Jerusalém. 3 Os seus nobres *1Rs 18.5enviam os seus inferiores procurar água. Estes vão aos *Jr 2.13;2Rs 18.31poços e não acham água; voltam com os seus cântaros vazios, ficam *Jó 6.20;Sl 40.14envergonhados e confundidos e *2Sm 15.30cobrem as suas cabeças. 4 Por não ter *Jr 3.3caído chuva *Jl 1.19-20sobre a terra, esta se fende, e, por esse motivo, *Jl 1.11ficam envergonhados os lavradores e *Jr 14.3cobrem as suas cabeças. 5 Até a veada no campo pare e abandona a sua cria, porque não há *Is 15.6relva. 6 *Jr 2.24;Jó 39.5-6Os asnos selvagens põem-se nos altos escalvados e, ofegantes, sorvem o ar como chacais; desfalecem os seus olhos, porque *Jl 1.18não há erva.

7 Ainda que *Is 59.12;Os 5.5as nossas iniquidades dão testemunho contra nós, opera tu, ó Jeová, *Jr 14.21por amor do teu nome, porque muitas são *Jr 5.6;8.5as nossas apostasias; contra ti *Jr 14.20;Jr 3.25;8.14temos pecado. 8 *Jr 17.13Ó Esperança de Israel, *Is 43.3;63.8Salvador seu *Sl 9.9;50.15no tempo de aperto, porque serias tu como peregrino na terra e como um viandante que se desvia para passar a noite? 9 Por que serias como homem surpreendido, como um valente *Nm 11.23;Is 50.2que não pode salvar? Contudo, *Jr 8.19;Sl 46.5tu, Jeová, estás no meio de nós, e somos *Jr 15.16;Is 63.19chamados do teu nome; não nos desampares.

Jeová declara ser inútil a intercessão

10 Assim diz Jeová a respeito deste povo: *Jr 2.25;3.13Gostam de andar errantes, *Sl 119.101não retêm os seus pés. Por isso, Jeová *Jr 6.20;Am 5.22não os aceita; agora, *Jr 44.21-23;Os 8.13se lembrará da iniquidade deles, e visitará os seus pecados. 11 Disse-me mais Jeová: *Jr 7.16;11.14;Êx 32.10Não ores por este povo para o bem seu. 12 Quando jejuarem, *Jr 11.11;Is 1.15não ouvirei o seu clamor; quando oferecerem *Jr 6.20;7.21holocaustos e oblações, não os aceitarei; porém os *Jr 8.13consumirei *Jr 21.9pela espada, e pela fome, e pela peste.

13 Disse eu: Ah! Senhor Jeová! Eis que os profetas lhes dizem: *Jr 5.12;23.17Não vereis espada, nem tereis fome; mas vos darei *Jr 6.14;8.11verdadeira paz neste lugar. 14 Disse-me Jeová: *Jr 5.31;23.25Os profetas profetizam mentiras em meu nome. *Jr 23.21,32;27.15Não os enviei, nem lhes dei ordem, nem lhes falei; eles vos profetizam *Jr 23.16,26;27.9-10;Ez 12.24uma visão mentirosa, e adivinhação, e vaidade, e o engano do seu coração. 15 Portanto, assim diz Jeová acerca dos profetas que profetizam em meu nome, acerca desses profetas que eu não enviei e que contudo *Jr 5.12dizem: Não haverá espada nem fome nesta terra. Esses profetas hão de ser consumidos *Ez 14.10à espada e à fome. 16 *Jr 6.11;Is 9.16;Mt 15.14O povo a quem eles profetizam *Jr 7.33;15.2-3;Sl 79.2-3será lançado nas ruas de Jerusalém por causa da fome e da espada; e não haverá *Jr 8.1-2quem os sepulte a eles, a suas mulheres, a seus filhos e a suas filhas, porque *Jr 13.22-25;Pv 1.31derramarei sobre eles a sua maldade. 17 Dir-lhes-ás esta palavra: *Jr 9.1;13.17Derramem os meus olhos lágrimas de noite e de dia e não cessem de chorar, porque a virgem, *Jr 8.21;Is 37.22;Lm 1.15;2.13filha do meu povo, sofreu uma grande brecha e foi *Jr 10.19;30.14-15mui gravemente ferida. 18 Se eu *Jr 6.25;Lm 1.20;Ez 7.15sair ao campo, eis os mortos à espada! Se eu entrar na cidade, eis os enfermos de fome! Porque *Jr 6.13;8.10tanto o profeta como o sacerdote vão rodeando a terra *Jr 2.8;5.5e não têm conhecimento.

19 Porventura, já, de todo, *Jr 6.30;7.29;12.7rejeitaste a Judá? Acaso, aborreceu a tua alma a Sião? Porque nos tens ferido, sem que haja para nós *Jr 30.13cura alguma? *Jr 8.15;Jó 30.26;1Ts 5.3Aguardamos a paz, porém não chegou bem algum; e o tempo da cura, e eis o pavor! 20 *Jr 3.25;Ne 9.2;Sl 32.5Reconhecemos, Jeová, a nossa maldade e a iniquidade de nossos pais, porque contra ti *Jr 14.7;Jr 8.14havemos pecado. 21 *Jr 14.7;Sl 25.11Por amor do teu nome, não nos aborreças; não tragas opróbrio *Jr 3.17;17.12sobre o trono da tua glória. Lembra-te, não anules a tua aliança conosco. 22 Acaso, entre as *Jr 10.3;Is 41.29vaidades das gentes, há quem possa *Jr 5.24;1Rs 17.1fazer vir a chuva? Ou podem os céus dar chuvas? *Is 41.4;43.10Não és tu, Jeová, nosso Deus, o que fazes isso? Portanto, por ti *Lm 3.26esperaremos. Pois tu tens feito todas essas coisas.

1 The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the dearth.*14.1 the dearth: Heb. the words of the dearths, or, restraints 2 Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish; they are black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up. 3 And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits, and found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads. 4 Because the ground is chapt, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads. 5 Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass. 6 And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.

7 O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name’s sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee. 8 O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night? 9 Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name; leave us not.*14.9 we…: Heb. thy name is called upon us

10 Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins. 11 Then said the LORD unto me, Pray not for this people for their good. 12 When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.

13 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.*14.13 assured…: Heb. peace of truth 14 Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart. 15 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed. 16 And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.

17 Therefore thou shalt say this word unto them; Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow. 18 If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.*14.18 go about…: or, make merchandise against a land, and men acknowledge it not 19 Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul lothed Zion? why hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? we looked for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold trouble! 20 We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee. 21 Do not abhor us, for thy name’s sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us. 22 Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.
