O rolo de Jeremias é lido no templo

1 *Jr 25.1,3;45.1;46.2;2Rs 24.1No quarto ano de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, veio da parte de Jeová esta palavra a Jeremias, dizendo: 2 Toma o *Jr 36.6,23,28;Êx 17.14;Zc 5.1-2rolo dum livro, e nele escreve todas *Jr 1.9-10as palavras que te hei falado contra *Jr 3.3-10;23.13-14;32.30-32Israel, e contra Judá e contra todas *Jr 1.5,10;25.9-29; 47—51as nações, desde *Jr 1.2-3;25.3o dia em que te falei, desde os dias de Josias até o dia de hoje. 3 Talvez *Jr 36.7;Jr 26.3;Ez 12.3ouçam os da casa de Judá todo o mal que eu intento fazer-lhes; de modo que *Jr 18.8,11;35.15;Dt 30.2,8;1Sm 7.3;Is 55.7se tornem cada um do seu mau caminho, a fim de que eu *Jn 3.10;Mc 4.12;At 3.19perdoe a sua iniquidade e o seu pecado.

4 Chamou Jeremias a *Jr 36.18;Jr 32.12;43.3Baruque, filho de Nerias; e da boca de Jeremias escreveu Baruque, *Jr 36.14;Ez 2.9no rolo dum livro, todas as palavras de Jeová, que ele lhe havia falado. 5 Jeremias ordenou a Baruque, dizendo: Eu estou *Jr 32.2;33.1;2Co 11.23encarcerado; não posso entrar na casa de Jeová. 6 Entra tu, pois, e pelo rolo, que *Jr 36.4tens escrito da minha boca, *Jr 36.8lê todas as palavras de Jeová aos ouvidos do povo, na casa de Jeová, *Jr 36.9;Zc 8.19no dia de jejum; também as lerás aos ouvidos de todos os de Judá que vêm das suas cidades. 7 *Jr 36.3;Jr 26.3;1Rs 8.33;2Cr 33.12-13Pode ser que eles apresentem a sua súplica diante de Jeová e se tornem cada um do seu mau caminho; pois *Jr 4.4;21.5;2Rs 22.13,17;Lm 4.11grande é a ira e o furor que Jeová pronunciou contra este povo. 8 Fez Baruque, filho de Nerias, segundo tudo o que o profeta Jeremias lhe ordenou, *Jr 36.6;Jr 1.17lendo no livro as palavras de Jeová na casa de Jeová.

9 Ora no *Jr 36.1quinto ano de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, no *Jr 36.22nono mês, todo o povo em Jerusalém, e todo o povo que *Jr 36.6veio das cidades de Judá a Jerusalém, apregoaram um *2Cr 20.3;Et 4.16;Jl 1.14;2.15;Jn 3.5jejum diante de Jeová. 10 Então na casa de Jeová, na *Jr 35.4câmara de *Jr 36.11,25Gemarias, filho do *Jr 52.25;2Sm 8.17secretário Safã, no átrio superior, *Jr 26.10à entrada da porta nova da casa de Jeová, leu Baruque no livro aos ouvidos de todo o povo as palavras de Jeremias.

11 Tendo *Jr 36.13Micaías, filho de Gemarias, filho de Safã, ouvido todas as palavras de Jeová, lidas do livro, 12 desceu à casa do rei, à câmara do secretário. Eis que estavam ali sentados todos os príncipes: o secretário *Jr 36.20Elisama, e *Jr 36.25Delaías, filho de Semaías, e *Jr 26.22Elnatã, filho de Acbor, e Gemarias, filho de Safã, e Zedequias, filho de Hananias e todos os príncipes. 13 Micaías referiu-lhes *2Rs 22.10todas as palavras que ouvira, quando Baruque leu o livro aos ouvidos do povo. 14 Portanto todos os príncipes enviaram *Jr 36.21Jeudi, filho de Netanias, filho de Selemias, filho de Cusi, a Baruque, para lhe dizer: Toma na tua mão o rolo de que leste aos ouvidos do povo, e vem. *Jr 36.2;Ez 2.6-7Tomou Baruque, filho de Nerias, o rolo na sua mão, e foi ter com eles. 15 Disseram-lhe: Senta-te agora, e lê-o aos nossos ouvidos. Baruque o *Jr 36.21leu aos seus ouvidos. 16 Tendo eles ouvido todas as palavras, voltaram-se *Jr 36.24;At 24.25espantados uns para os outros, e disseram a Baruque: Certamente *Jr 13.18;Am 7.10-11referiremos ao rei todas estas palavras. 17 Perguntaram a Baruque: Declara-nos agora *Jo 9.10,15,26como escreveste da sua boca todas estas palavras. 18 Respondeu-lhes Baruque: *Jr 36.4;Jr 43.2-3Ele me referia com a sua boca todas estas palavras, e eu as escrevia no livro com tinta. 19 Disseram os príncipes a Baruque: Vai, *Jr 36.26;Jr 26.20-24;1Rs 17.3;18.4,10esconde-te, tu e Jeremias; não saiba alguém onde estais.

O rolo é lançado no fogo

20 Eles foram ao átrio ter com o rei, depois de terem depositado o rolo na câmara do secretário *Jr 36.12Elisama, e referiram todas as palavras aos ouvidos do rei. 21 Enviou o rei *Jr 36.14a Jeudi para ir buscar o rolo; este o tirou da câmara do secretário Elisama, e *2Rs 22.10;2Cr 34.18;Ez 2.4-5o leu aos ouvidos do rei, e *Jr 36.12aos ouvidos de todos os príncipes que estavam em torno do rei. 22 Ora o rei estava sentado *Am 3.15na casa de inverno pelo *Jr 36.9nono mês e diante dele estava um braseiro aceso. 23 Tendo Jeudi lido três ou quatro folhas, cortava-as com o canivete e *Jr 36.29;1Rs 22.8,27;Pv 1.30;Is 5.18-19;28.14,22lançava-as no fogo que estava no braseiro, até que o rolo todo foi consumido no fogo que estava no braseiro. 24 *Jr 36.16;Sl 36.1;64.5;Is 26.11Não tiveram medo nem *1Rs 21.27;2Rs 19.1-2;22.11,19;Is 36.22;37.1;Jn 3.6rasgaram os seus vestidos, nem o rei nem nenhum dos seus servos que ouviram todas estas palavras. 25 Todavia *Jr 36.12Elnatã e Delaías e Gemarias *Gn 37.22,26-27;At 5.34-39tinham rogado ao rei que não queimasse o rolo; porém ele não os quis ouvir. 26 Ordenou o rei a Jerameel, filho do rei, e a Seraías, filho de Azriel, e a Selemias, filho de Abdeel, a *1Rs 19.1-3,10,14trazerem o escriba Baruque e o profeta Jeremias; porém *Jr 36.5,19;Jr 1.19;15.20-21Jeová os escondeu.

Jeremias é ordenado escrever outro rolo

27 Depois que o rei *Jr 36.23queimara o rolo, e as palavras que *Jr 36.4,18Baruque escrevera da boca de Jeremias, veio a palavra de Jeová a Jeremias, dizendo: 28 *Jr 28.13-14;44.28;Zc 1.5-6Toma de novo outro livro, e nele escreve todas as palavras primeiras que havia *Jr 36.4,23no primeiro livro que Jeoaquim, rei de Judá, havia queimado. 29 Acerca de Jeoaquim, rei de Judá, dirás: Assim diz Jeová: Tu acabas de *Dt 29.19;Jó 15.24-25;Is 45.9queimar este rolo, perguntando: *Jr 26.9;32.3;Is 29.21;30.10Por que tens escrito nele: Certamente virá *Jr 25.9-11o rei de Babilônia e destruirá esta terra, e fará cessar nela homens e animais? 30 Por isso assim diz Jeová acerca de Jeoaquim, rei de Judá. Ele não terá *Jr 22.30;2Rs 24.12-15quem se assente sobre o trono de Davi, e o seu *Jr 22.19cadáver será exposto ao calor de dia e à geada de noite. 31 *Jr 23.34Castigá-lo-ei a ele, a sua linhagem e os seus servos por causa da sua iniquidade; *Jr 19.15;35.17;Dt 28.15;Pv 29.1e trarei sobre eles e sobre os habitantes de Jerusalém e sobre os homens de Judá todo o mal que pronunciei contra eles, porém não escutaram. 32 Tomou *Jr 36.28outro rolo, e o deu ao escriba Baruque, filho de Nerias, o qual *Jr 36.4,23;Êx 4.15-16;34.1escreveu nele, da boca de Jeremias, todas as palavras do livro que Jeoaquim, rei de Judá, havia queimado no fogo; e ainda se lhes acrescentaram muitas palavras semelhantes.

1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2 Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day. 3 It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin. 4 Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book. 5 And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD: 6 Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD’s house upon the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities. 7 It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the LORD hath pronounced against this people.*36.7 they…: Heb. their supplication shall fail 8 And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the LORD in the LORD’s house.

9 And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the LORD to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem. 10 Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD’s house, in the ears of all the people.*36.10 entry: or, door

11 When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the LORD, 12 Then he went down into the king’s house, into the scribe’s chamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes. 13 Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people. 14 Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them. 15 And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears. 16 Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words. 17 And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth? 18 Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book. 19 Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye be.

20 And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king. 21 So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe’s chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king. 22 Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him. 23 And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth. 24 Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words. 25 Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them. 26 But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD hid them.*36.26 of Hammelech: or, of the king

27 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying, 28 Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned. 29 And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast? 30 Therefore thus saith the LORD of Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost. 31 And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they hearkened not.*36.31 punish: Heb. visit upon

32 Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.*36.32 like: Heb. as they
