Ameaças contra os judeus que fugiram para o Egito

1 Eis a palavra que veio a Jeremias acerca de todos os judeus que moravam na terra do Egito, *Jr 46.14em Migdol, e em *Jr 43.7;Ez 30.18Tafnes, e em *Jr 2.16;46.14;Is 19.13;Ez 30.13,16Mênfis, e no país de *Jr 44.15;Is 11.11;Ez 29.14;30.14Patros. 2 Assim diz Jeová dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel: Vós tendes visto todo este mal que fiz vir sobre Jerusalém, e sobre todas as cidades de Judá; eis que hoje são elas uma *Jr 44.22;Jr 4.7;9.11;34.22;Is 6.11;Mq 3.12desolação, e ninguém nelas habita, 3 *Jr 44.23;Jr 2.17-19;Ne 9.33;Ez 8.17-18;Dn 9.5por causa da sua maldade que, *Jr 44.8;Jr 7.19;32.30-32;Is 3.8para me provocarem à ira, praticaram, indo a *Jr 44.8queimar incenso e *Dt 13.6;29.26;32.17a servir outros deuses, a quem não conheceram, nem eles, nem vós, nem vossos pais. 4 Todavia *Jr 7.13,25;25.4;26.5;35.15;Zc 7.7vos enviei todos os meus servos, os profetas, levantando-me cedo e enviando-os, a dizer: Ah, não façais esta *Jr 16.18;32.34-35;Ez 8.10coisa abominável que aborreço! 5 Porém *Jr 11.8,10;13.10não ouviram, nem inclinaram os seus ouvidos para abandonarem a sua maldade, e não mais queimarem incenso a outros deuses. 6 Pelo que o *Jr 42.18;Is 51.17-20;Ez 8.18meu furor e a minha ira, derramando-se, incendiaram *Jr 7.17,34as cidades de Judá e as ruas de Jerusalém, que se tornaram ermas e *Jr 4.27;34.22desoladas, como hoje se vê. 7 Agora assim diz Jeová, Deus dos exércitos, Deus de Israel: Por que *Jr 26.19;Ez 33.11;Hc 2.10fazeis vós contra vossas almas este grande mal, fazendo que do meio de Judá *Jr 3.24;9.21;51.22seja exterminado dentre vós o homem e a mulher, a criança e o que mama, e que não vos fique *Jr 44.12resto algum? por que fazeis este grande mal, 8 *Jr 44.3;2Rs 17.15-17;1Co 10.21-22provocando-me à ira com as obras das vossas mãos, *Jr 44.3;Jr 7.9;11.12,17;Os 4.13;Hc 1.16queimando incenso a outros deuses na terra do Egito, aonde fostes a peregrinar, para que sejais exterminados, e vos torneis *Jr 42.18;1Rs 9.7-8;2Cr 7.20objeto de maldição e de opróbrio entre todas as nações da terra? 9 Acaso estais esquecidos *Jr 44.17,21;Jr 7.9-10,17-18das maldades de vossos pais, e das maldades dos reis de Judá, das maldades de suas mulheres, e das vossas maldades e das maldades *Jr 44.15de vossas mulheres, que praticaram na terra de Judá, e nas ruas de Jerusalém? 10 Até o dia de hoje *Jr 6.15;8.12não se humilharam nem tiveram temor, nem *Jr 44.23;Jr 26.4;32.23andaram na minha lei e nos meus estatutos, que pus diante de vós e diante de vossos pais.

11 Portanto assim diz Jeová dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel: Eis que *Jr 21.10;Lv 26.17;Am 9.4porei o meu rosto contra vós para mal e para exterminar a todo Judá. 12 *Jr 42.15-18,22Tomarei os que restam de Judá, os quais resolveram entrar na terra do Egito para ali peregrinarem, e *Jr 44.7;Jr 16.4;Is 1.28todos eles serão consumidos; na terra do Egito cairão; à espada e de fome serão consumidos: desde o menor até o maior morrerão à espada e de fome; e tornar-se-ão *Jr 29.18;42.18;Is 65.15objeto de execração, e de espanto, e de maldição e de opróbrio. 13 *Jr 44.27-28;Jr 11.22Castigarei os que moram na terra do Egito, como castiguei a Jerusalém, *Jr 21.9;24.10;42.17,22à espada, de fome e de peste. 14 *Jr 44.27;Jr 22.10Dos que restam de Judá, os quais são vindos para peregrinarem na terra do Egito não haverá quem escape nem sobreviva, para tornar à terra de Judá, a qual eles *Jr 22.26-27desejam voltar a fim de ali morarem: não voltarão senão os que *Jr 44.28;Is 4.2;10.20;Rm 9.27escaparem.

Jeremias é contradito

15 Responderam a Jeremias *Jr 5.1-5;Pv 11.21;Is 1.5todos os homens que sabiam que *Jr 44.9suas mulheres queimavam incenso a outros deuses, e todas as mulheres que estavam presentes, uma grande assembleia, a saber, todo o povo que morava na terra do Egito, em Patros: 16 Quanto *Jr 43.2à palavra que nos disseste em nome de Jeová, *Jr 8.6,12;11.8,10;13.10;Jó 15.25-26;21.14-15;Sl 2.3;Is 3.9nós não te escutaremos. 17 Mas certamente cumpriremos toda a palavra que saiu da nossa boca, de queimarmos incenso *Jr 7.18;2Rs 17.16à rainha do céu e de lhe derramarmos libações, como temos feito, *Jr 44.21;Jr 32.32;Ne 9.34nós e nossos pais, os nossos reis e os nossos príncipes, nas cidades de Judá e nas ruas de Jerusalém; então tínhamos *Êx 16.3;Is 48.5;Os 2.5-9;Fp 3.19fartura de pão, e nos ia bem, e não vimos mal algum. 18 Mas desde que cessamos de queimar incenso à rainha do céu e de lhe derramar libações, temos tido *Jr 40.12;Nm 11.5-6;Ml 3.13-15falta de tudo e temos sido consumidos pela espada e pela fome. 19 Quando queimávamos incenso à rainha do céu, e lhe derramávamos libações, acaso era *Jr 44.15;Nm 30.6-7sem o conhecimento de nossos maridos que nós lhe fazíamos tortas para a retratar, e lhe derramávamos libações?

Jeremias renova as suas admoestações

20 Disse Jeremias a todo o povo, aos homens e às mulheres e a todo o povo, que lhe haviam dado esta resposta: 21 Quanto *Ez 8.10-11ao incenso que queimastes nas cidades de Judá *Jr 44.9,17;Jr 11.13;Ez 16.24e nas ruas de Jerusalém, vós e vossos pais, os vossos reis e os vossos príncipes, e o povo da terra, acaso *Jr 14.10;Sl 79.8;Is 64.9;Os 7.2;Am 8.7não se lembrou disso Jeová, nem lhe veio isso à mente? 22 Jeová *Is 7.13;Ml 2.17não o podia suportar mais, *Jr 4.4;21.12;30.14por causa da maldade dos vossos feitos e por causa das abominações que havíeis praticado; assim a vossa terra se tornou em *Jr 44.13;Jr 25.11,18,38;29.18;42.18desolação, e em objeto de espanto e de opróbrio, e desabitada, como hoje se vê. 23 Porque *Jr 44.3tendes queimado incenso, e porque tendes pecado contra Jeová, e *Jr 7.13-15;40.3não tendes obedecido a voz de Jeová, nem *Jr 44.10;Sl 119.136,150andado na sua lei e nos seus estatutos, e nos seus testemunhos; por isso vos sobreveio *Jr 44.2;1Rs 9.9;Ne 13.18este mal, como hoje se vê.

24 Também Jeremias disse a todo o povo e a todas as mulheres: *Jr 44.16;Jr 42.15Ouvi a palavra de Jeová, todos os de Judá que estais *Jr 44.15,26;Jr 43.7na terra do Egito: 25 Assim diz Jeová dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel: *Jr 44.16Vós e vossas mulheres falastes por vossa boca, e com as vossas mãos o cumpristes, dizendo: *Jr 44.17;Mt 14.9;At 23.12Certamente cumpriremos os nossos votos que temos feito, de queimarmos incenso à rainha do céu, e de lhe derramarmos libações; *Ez 20.39;Tg 1.14-15confirmai, pois, os vossos votos, e cumpri-os. 26 Portanto ouvi a palavra de Jeová, todos os de Judá que habitais na terra do Egito: Eis que por meu grande nome *Jr 22.5;Gn 22.16;Dt 32.40-41;Am 6.8;Hb 6.13,18vos jurei, diz Jeová, que o meu nome *Sl 50.16;Ez 20.39não será pronunciado mais por boca de nenhum homem de Judá em toda a terra do Egito, dizendo-se: *Jr 5.2;Is 48.1-2Pela vida de Jeová. 27 Eis que vigiarei sobre eles *Jr 39.16para mal, e não para bem; *Jr 44.14;2Rs 21.14e todos os homens de Judá que estão na terra do Egito, serão consumidos pela espada e pela fome, até que de todo se acabem. 28 *Jr 44.14Os que escaparem da espada, voltarão da terra do Egito para a terra de Judá, *Is 10.19;27.12-13poucos em número; e todos os que restam de Judá, que são vindos à terra do Egito para ali peregrinarem, saberão que palavra subsistirá, se a *Sl 33.11;Is 14.27;46.10-11;Zc 1.6minha ou a deles. 29 Isto vos servirá de *Jr 44.30;Is 7.11,14;8.18;Mt 24.15-16,32sinal, diz Jeová, de que vos castigarei neste lugar, para que saibas que certamente subsistirão *Pv 19.21;Is 40.8as minhas palavras contra vós para mal. 30 Assim diz Jeová: Eis que entregarei *Jr 43.9-13;46.25;Ez 29.3Faraó-Hofra, rei do Egito, nas mãos dos seus inimigos, e nas mãos dos que procuram tirar-lhe a vida; assim como entreguei *Jr 34.21;39.5-7;2Rs 25.4-7Zedequias, rei de Judá, nas mãos de Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, que era seu inimigo e procurava tirar-lhe a vida.

1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews which dwell in the land of Egypt, which dwell at Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, and at Noph, and in the country of Pathros, saying, 2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah; and, behold, this day they are a desolation, and no man dwelleth therein, 3 Because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, and to serve other gods, whom they knew not, neither they, ye, nor your fathers. 4 Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate. 5 But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto other gods. 6 Wherefore my fury and mine anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as at this day. 7 Therefore now thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; Wherefore commit ye this great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman, child and suckling, out of Judah, to leave you none to remain;*44.7 out…: Heb. out of the midst of Judah 8 In that ye provoke me unto wrath with the works of your hands, burning incense unto other gods in the land of Egypt, whither ye be gone to dwell, that ye might cut yourselves off, and that ye might be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth? 9 Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they have committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?*44.9 wickedness…: Heb. wickednesses, or, punishments, etc 10 They are not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.*44.10 humbled: Heb. contrite

11 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, and to cut off all Judah. 12 And I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be consumed by the sword and by the famine: they shall die, from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine: and they shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach. 13 For I will punish them that dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: 14 So that none of the remnant of Judah, which are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall escape or remain, that they should return into the land of Judah, to the which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return but such as shall escape.*44.14 have…: Heb. lift up their soul

15 Then all the men which knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying, 16 As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee. 17 But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.*44.17 queen…: or, frame of heaven*44.17 victuals: Heb. bread 18 But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine. 19 And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?*44.19 men: or, husbands?

20 Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people which had given him that answer, saying, 21 The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the LORD remember them, and came it not into his mind? 22 So that the LORD could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which ye have committed; therefore is your land a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day. 23 Because ye have burned incense, and because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil is happened unto you, as at this day. 24 Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the LORD, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt: 25 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows. 26 Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth. 27 Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them. 28 Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or theirs.*44.28 mine…: Heb. from me, or, from them

29 And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the LORD, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil: 30 Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give Pharaoh-hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his life.
