Jeremias exorta o povo a não ir à terra do Egito

1 Chegaram todos os capitães das forças, *Jr 40.8,13;41.11,16e Joanã, filho de Careá, e Jezanias, filho de Hosaías, e todo o povo *Jr 42.8;Jr 6.13;8.10;44.12;At 8.10desde o menor até o maior, 2 e disseram ao profeta Jeremias: Seja aceita, pedimos-te, a nossa *Jr 36.7;37.20súplica diante de ti, e *Jr 42.20;Jr 37.3;Êx 8.28;1Rs 13.6;At 8.24roga a Jeová teu Deus, por nós, por todo este resto; porque de muitos temos ficado *Dt 28.62;Is 1.9;Lm 1.1só uns poucos, assim como nos vêm os teus olhos. 3 Roga para que Jeová teu Deus nos indique *Jr 6.16;Sl 86.11;Pv 3.6;Mq 4.2o caminho no qual havemos de andar, e aquilo que havemos de fazer. 4 Respondeu-lhes o profeta Jeremias: Tenho ouvido; eis *Êx 8.29;1Sm 12.23que orarei conforme as vossas palavras a *Jr 23.28;1Rs 22.14Jeová vosso Deus. Tudo o que Jeová vos responder, eu vo-lo referirei; *1Sm 3.17-18;Sl 40.10não vos encobrirei coisa alguma. 5 Disseram eles a Jeremias: *Jr 43.2;Gn 31.50;Jz 11.10;Mq 1.2;Ml 2.14;3.5Seja Jeová entre nós testemunha verdadeira e fiel, se assim o não fizermos conforme toda a palavra, com que te enviar a nós Jeová teu Deus. 6 Seja em bem, ou seja em mal, *Êx 24.7;Dt 5.27;Js 24.24obedeceremos à voz de Jeová nosso Deus, a quem te enviamos; *Jr 7.23;Dt 5.29,33para que nos vá bem, quando obedecermos à voz de Jeová nosso Deus.

7 *Sl 27.14;Is 30.18Passados que foram dez dias, veio a palavra de Jeová a Jeremias. 8 Jeremias chamou *Jr 42.1a Joanã, filho de Careá, e a todos os capitães das forças que estavam com ele, e a todo o povo desde o menor até o maior, 9 e disse-lhes: Assim *2Rs 19.4,6,20;22.15diz Jeová, Deus de Israel, a quem me enviastes, para que eu apresentasse diante dele as vossas súplicas: 10 Se continuardes a ficar nesta terra, *Jr 24.6;31.28;Ez 36.36edificar-vos-ei, e não vos derribarei; plantar-vos-ei, e não vos arrancarei; porque *Jr 18.7-8;Os 11.8;Jl 2.13;Am 7.3,6;Jn 3.10;4.2estou arrependido do mal que vos tenho feito. 11 *Jr 1.8;27.12,17;41.18Não tenhais medo do rei de Babilônia, de quem vós tendes medo; não tenhais medo dele, diz Jeová; *Jr 1.19;15.20;2Cr 32.7-8;Sl 46.7,11;Is 8.9-10;43.2,5;Rm 8.31pois eu sou convosco para vos salvar, e para vos livrar das suas mãos. 12 Conceder-vos-ei misericórdia, *Ne 1.11;Sl 106.46;Pv 16.7para que ele tenha misericórdia de vós, e vos faça voltar para a vossa terra. 13 Mas se vós disserdes: *Jr 44.16;Êx 5.2Não moraremos nesta terra; se não obedecerdes à voz de Jeová vosso Deus, 14 mas disserdes: Não, *Jr 41.17;Is 31.1antes iremos à terra do Egito, onde não veremos guerra, *Jr 4.19,21;Êx 16.3;Nm 11.4nem ouviremos som de trombeta, nem teremos fome de pão; e ali habitaremos: 15 ouvi a palavra de Jeová, ó resto de Judá. Assim diz Jeová dos exércitos, Deus de Israel: Se vós tiverdes o firme propósito de entrardes no *Jr 42.17;Jr 44.12-14;Dt 17.16Egito, e fordes para lá peregrinar; 16 *Jr 44.13,27;Ez 11.8;Am 9.1-4a espada, que vós temeis, vos alcançará ali na terra do Egito, e a fome, que vós receais, vos guiará bem de perto ali no Egito, e ali morrereis. 17 Assim acontecerá a todos os homens que tiverem o firme propósito de entrarem no Egito para ali peregrinar; morrerão *Jr 42.22;Jr 38.2;44.13à espada, de fome, e de peste; *Jr 44.28não ficará nenhum deles, nem escapará do mal que eu farei vir sobre eles.

18 Pois assim diz Jeová dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel: Assim como se derramou *Jr 7.20;33.5;39.1-9;2Cr 36.16-19a minha ira e o meu furor sobre os habitantes de Jerusalém, assim será derramado o meu furor sobre vós, quando entrardes no Egito; vireis a ser objeto de *Jr 29.18;Dt 29.21;Is 65.15execração, e de espanto, e de maldição e de opróbrio; *Jr 22.10,27e não tornareis mais a ver este lugar. 19 Jeová disse acerca de vós, ó resto de Judá: *Is 30.1-7Não entreis no Egito; *Ez 2.5tende por certo que hoje vo-lo *Ne 9.26,29-30tenho protestado. 20 Na verdade *Jr 41.17;43.2;Ez 14.3com dolo vos tendes havido contra vós mesmos; porque *Jr 42.2,5me enviastes a Jeová vosso Deus, dizendo: Roga por nós a Jeová, nosso Deus, e segundo tudo o que disser Jeová nosso Deus, anuncia-no-lo assim, que nós o faremos. 21 Hoje vo-lo *Jr 43.1;Dt 11.26;Ez 2.7;At 20.26-27tenho anunciado, porém *Jr 42.6;Jr 43.4não obedecestes a voz de Jeová vosso Deus em coisa alguma pela qual me enviou a vós. 22 Agora tende por certo que à espada, de fome e de peste *Jr 42.17;Jr 43.11morrereis *Os 9.6no lugar aonde desejais ir para ali peregrinardes.

1 Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near, 2 And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)*42.2 Let…: or, Let our supplication fall before thee 3 That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do. 4 Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you. 5 Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the LORD thy God shall send thee to us. 6 Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.

7 And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah. 8 Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest, 9 And said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him; 10 If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up: for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you. 11 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand. 12 And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.

13 But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, neither obey the voice of the LORD your God, 14 Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell: 15 And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there; 16 Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.*42.16 shall follow…: Heb. shall cleave after you 17 So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.*42.17 So…: Heb. So shall all the men be 18 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.

19 The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day.*42.19 admonished…: Heb. testified against you 20 For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.*42.20 ye dissembled…: or, ye have used deceit against your souls 21 And now I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, nor any thing for the which he hath sent me unto you. 22 Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go and to sojourn.*42.22 to go…: or, to go to sojourn
