Promessas e ameaças proferidas à porta do templo

1 A *Jr 26.1-2Palavra que da parte de Jeová veio a Jeremias, dizendo: 2 *Jr 17.19Põe-te em pé na porta da Casa de Jeová, e proclama ali esta palavra, e dize: *Jr 2.4;10.1;1Rs 22.19;Is 1.10Ouvi a palavra de Jeová, todo Judá que entrais por estas portas para adorardes a Jeová. 3 Assim diz Jeová dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel: *Jr 7.5;Jr 4.1;18.11;26.13Emendai os vossos caminhos e os vossos feitos, e vos farei habitar neste lugar. 4 *Jr 7.8;Mq 3.11Não confieis em palavras mentirosas, dizendo: *Jr 7.9-11,14Templo de Jeová, templo de Jeová é este. 5 *Jr 4.1-2;Is 1.19Se emendardes radicalmente os vossos caminhos e os vossos feitos; se deveras *Jr 21.12;22.3;1Rs 6.12-13executardes o juízo entre um homem e o seu próximo; 6 se não oprimirdes o estrangeiro, *Jr 5.28;Êx 22.21-24o órfão e a viúva *Jr 2.34;19.4e não derramardes neste lugar o sangue inocente, nem, em prejuízo vosso, *Jr 13.10;Dt 6.14-15;8.19;11.28andardes após outros deuses, 7 então, vos farei *Jr 4.1;Dt 4.40habitar neste lugar, *Jr 3.18na terra que dei a vossos pais, desde os tempos antigos e para sempre.

8 Eis que vós confiais em *Jr 7.4;Jr 13.25;23.32;28.15palavras mentirosas, que não vos podem aproveitar. 9 Acaso, *Êx 20.3,13-16furtareis, matareis, cometereis adultério, jurareis falso, *Jr 11.13,17queimareis incenso a Baal e andareis após *Jr 7.6;Jr 19.4outros deuses a quem não conhecestes, 10 e *Ez 23.39vireis a apresentar-vos diante de mim *Jr 7.11,14,30;Jr 32.34nesta casa, que é chamada do meu nome, e direis: *Jr 2.23,35Somos livres, para que pratiqueis todas estas abominações? 11 *Is 56.7Esta casa, que é chamada do meu nome, porventura, se tornou aos vossos olhos *Mt 21.13;Mc 11.17;Lc 19.46um covil de salteadores? Eis que *Jr 29.23eu, eu o vi, diz Jeová.

12 Pois ide, agora, ao meu lugar que estava em *Jr 26.6;Jz 18.31Siló, onde no princípio *Jz 18.1,10fiz habitar o meu nome, *1Sm 4.10-11,22;Sl 78.60-64e vede o que lhe fiz por causa da maldade do meu povo de Israel. 13 Agora, porque fizestes todas essas obras, diz Jeová, porque eu vos falei, *Jr 7.25;Jr 11.7;2Cr 36.15levantando-me cedo e *Jr 35.17falando, mas vós não ouvistes; porque *Pv 1.24;Is 65.12;66.4vos chamei, porém não respondestes; 14 portanto, como *Jr 7.12fiz a Siló, assim farei *Dt 12.5;1Rs 9.7à casa que é chamada do meu nome, *Jr 7.4e em que vós confiais, e ao lugar que vos dei a vós e a vossos pais. 15 *Jr 15.1;52.3Lançar-vos-ei de diante da minha face, como *2Rs 17.23lancei a todos os vossos irmãos, a toda a linhagem de *Sl 78.67;Os 7.13;9.3;12.1Efraim.

16 Tu, pois, *Jr 11.14;Êx 32.10;Dt 9.14não rogues por este povo, não levantes por ele clamor nem oração, não me importunes, porque *Jr 15.1te não escutarei. 17 Acaso, não vês tu o que *Jr 11.13;44.6fazem nas cidades de Judá e nas ruas de Jerusalém? 18 Os filhos ajuntam lenha, os pais acendem fogo, e *Jr 44.17-19as mulheres preparam massas para fazerem tortas à rainha do céu e *Jr 10.13oferecerem libações a outros deuses, afim de me *Jr 11.17;Dt 32.16,21;1Rs 14.9;16.2;Ez 8.17provocarem à ira. 19 *Jó 35.6Acaso, eles a mim me provocam à ira? — diz Jeová; não se provocam a si mesmos *Jr 9.19;15.9;22.22à confusão do seu rosto? 20 Portanto, assim diz o Senhor Jeová: Eis que a minha *Jr 6.11-12;42.18;Is 42.25;Lm 2.3-5;4.11ira e o meu furor serão derramados sobre este lugar, e sobre os homens, e sobre os animais, e sobre as *Jr 8.13;11.16árvores do campo, e sobre os frutos da terra; acender-se-á e não se apagará.

21 Assim diz Jeová dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: *Jr 6.20;14.12;Is 1.11;Am 5.21Ajuntai os vossos holocaustos aos vossos sacrifícios, *Ez 33.25;Os 8.13e comei carne. 22 Pois no dia em que os tirei da terra do Egito *1Sm 15.22;Sl 51.16;Os 6.6não falei com vossos pais, não lhes dei mandamento acerca de holocaustos ou sacrifícios; 23 mas dei-lhes este mandamento, dizendo: *Êx 15.26;Dt 6.3Escutai a minha voz, *Jr 11.4;13.11;Êx 19.5-6;Lv 26.12e eu serei o vosso Deus, e vós sereis o meu povo; andai por todo o caminho que vos ordeno, para que *Jr 38.20;42.6;Is 3.10te vá bem. 24 Porém *Jr 11.8;Sl 81.11;Ez 20.8,13,16,21não escutaram, nem inclinaram os seus ouvidos, *Jr 15.6mas andaram para trás em vez de irem para diante. 25 Desde o dia em que vossos pais saíram da terra do Egito até o dia de hoje, tenho-vos *Jr 7.13;Jr 25.4;2Cr 36.15;Lc 11.49enviado todos os meus servos, os profetas, levantando-me cedo cada dia e enviando-os. 26 Contudo, *Jr 7.24não me escutaram, nem inclinaram os seus ouvidos, *Jr 17.23;19.15;Ne 9.17mas endureceram a sua cerviz: *Jr 16.12;Mt 23.32fizeram pior que seus pais.

27 *Jr 1.8;26.2;Ez 2.7Dir-lhes-ás todas estas palavras, porém *Jr 7.13;Ez 3.7não te escutarão; chamá-los-ás, porém não *Is 50.2;65.12;Zc 7.13te responderão. 28 Dir-lhes-ás: Esta é a nação que *Jr 6.17;11.10não escutou a voz de Jeová, seu Deus, *Jr 5.3;Sl 50.17nem recebeu instrução; *Jr 9.5;Is 59.14-15já pereceu a verdade, e está exterminada da boca deles.

A abominação de Tofete e o seu castigo

29 *Jr 16.6;Jó 1.20;Is 15.2;22.12;Mq 1.16Corta os teus cabelos, Jerusalém, e lança-os fora, *Jr 3.21;9.17-18e levanta um pranto sobre os altos escalvados; porque Jeová *Jr 6.30;14.19rejeitou e desamparou a geração, objeto do seu furor. 30 Pois os filhos de Judá fizeram o que é mau aos meus olhos, diz Jeová; *Jr 32.34-35;2Rs 21.4;2Cr 33.4-5,7;Ez 7.20;Dn 9.27;11.31puseram as suas abominações na casa, que é chamada do meu nome, para a profanarem. 31 *Jr 19.5;2Rs 23.10Edificaram os altos de Tofete, que está no vale do filho de Hinom, *2Rs 17.17;Sl 106.38para queimarem no fogo seus filhos e suas filhas, coisa *Dt 17.3que não ordenei, nem me veio à mente. 32 *Jr 19.6-7Portanto, eis que vêm os dias, diz Jeová, em que não se chamará mais Tofete, nem vale do filho de Hinom, mas vale de matança; *Jr 19.11;2Rs 23.10e enterrarão em Tofete, por não haver mais outro lugar. 33 *Jr 12.9;Dt 28.26;Sl 79.2Os cadáveres deste povo servirão de pasto às aves do céu, e aos animais da terra; e ninguém os enxotará. 34 Então, das cidades de Judá e das ruas de Jerusalém farei *Jr 16.9;Is 24.7-8;Ez 26.13;Os 2.11cessar a voz de gozo e a voz de alegria, a voz do noivo e a voz da noiva; porque *Jr 4.27;Is 1.7a terra se converterá em ermo.

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2 Stand in the gate of the LORD’s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD. 3 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place. 4 Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these. 5 For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour; 6 If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt: 7 Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.

8 Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit. 9 Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not; 10 And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?*7.10 which…: Heb. whereupon my name is called 11 Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD. 12 But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I set my name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel. 13 And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the LORD, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not; 14 Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh. 15 And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim.

16 Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.

17 Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? 18 The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.*7.18 queen…: or, frame, or, workmanship of heaven 19 Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces? 20 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

21 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh. 22 For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices:*7.22 concerning: Heb. concerning the matter of 23 But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you. 24 But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.*7.24 imagination: or, stubbornness*7.24 went: Heb. were 25 Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them: 26 Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers. 27 Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee. 28 But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.*7.28 correction: or, instruction

29 Cut off thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places; for the LORD hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath. 30 For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it. 31 And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart.*7.31 came…: Heb. came it upon my heart

32 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place. 33 And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall fray them away. 34 Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.
