A clemência de Jeová para com a infidelidade do povo

1 Dizem: *Dt 24.1-4Se um homem repudiar a sua mulher, e ela o deixar e tomar outro marido, porventura, tornará ele mais para ela? Acaso, não será aquela terra grandemente contaminada? Mas tu *Jr 2.20;Ez 16.26,28-29te hás prostituído a muitos amantes? E pensas tu *Jr 4.1;Zc 1.3em voltar para mim? — diz Jeová. 2 Levanta os teus olhos *Jr 2.20;Dt 12.2aos altos escalvados e vê; onde é o lugar em que te não hás prostituído? Junto aos caminhos *Ez 16.25te sentaste, esperando-os, como um árabe no deserto; e *Jr 2.7manchaste a terra com as tuas fornicações e com a tua malícia. 3 Portanto, foram retidos *Jr 14.3-6;Lv 26.19os chuveiros, e não houve chuva tardia; tiveste *Jr 6.15;8.12;Ez 3.7-8a fronte duma prostituta e não quiseste ter vergonha. 4 Acaso, não clamarás a mim desde agora, dizendo: *Jr 3.19;Jr 31.9Pai meu, tu és *Sl 71.17o guia da minha mocidade? 5 *Jr 3.12;Sl 103.9;Is 57.16Reterá ele a sua ira para sempre? Ou conservá-la-á até o fim? Eis que assim falaste, mas fizeste coisas ruins e continuaste nelas.

6 Jeová disse-me nos dias do rei Josias: Viste, porventura, o que fez *Jr 7.24a apóstata Israel? Ela *Jr 17.2;Ez 23.4-10foi-se acima de todo alto monte e debaixo de toda árvore frondosa, e ali se entregou à fornicação. 7 Depois de ter feito todas essas coisas, eu disse: Ela voltará para mim. Contudo, ela não voltou. A sua *Jr 3.11;Ez 16.47aleivosa irmã Judá viu isso, 8 sim, viu que, por esse motivo, a saber, por ter cometido adultério a apóstata Israel, eu a repudiara e *Dt 24.1,3;Is 50.1lhe dera carta de divórcio; contudo, *Ez 16.46-47a sua aleivosa irmã Judá, não temeu, mas também ela se foi e se entregou à fornicação. 9 Pela facilidade da sua prostituição *Jr 3.2;Jr 2.7contaminou ela a terra e adulterou com *Jr 2.27;10.8;Is 57.6pedras e com paus. 10 Apesar de tudo isso, a sua aleivosa irmã Judá não voltou para mim de todo o seu coração, mas *Jr 12.2;Os 7.14fingidamente, diz Jeová.

A conduta de Judá pior do que a de Israel

11 Disse-me Jeová: *Ez 16.51-52;23.11A apóstata Israel mostrou-se mais justa do que *Jr 3.7a aleivosa Judá. 12 Vai, e apregoa estas palavras para a banda do *2Rs 17.6Norte, e dize: *Jr 3.14,22Volta, apóstata Israel, diz Jeová. *Jr 3.5Não olharei em ira para ti, porque eu sou *Jr 12.15;31.20;33.26;Sl 86.15compassivo, diz Jeová, e não conservarei para sempre a minha ira. 13 Tão somente reconhece a tua iniquidade, *Jr 3.25;Jr 14.20;Dt 30.1-3reconhece que transgrediste contra Jeová, teu Deus, e *Jr 3.2,6;Jr 2.20,25perverteste os teus caminhos aos estranhos, *Dt 12.2debaixo de toda árvore frondosa, e não obedeceste à minha voz, diz Jeová. 14 *Jr 3.12Voltai, filhos apóstatas, diz Jeová, porque eu sou *Jr 31.32;Os 2.19vosso esposo. Eu vos tomarei um de cada cidade e dois de cada família *Jr 31.6,12;50.4-5e vos levarei a Sião. 15 Dar-vos-ei *Jr 23.4;31.10;50.19;Ez 34.23pastores segundo o meu coração, os quais vos *At 20.28apascentarão com ciência e com inteligência. 16 Quando vos multiplicardes e crescerdes na terra, naqueles dias, diz Jeová, *Is 65.17não dirão mais: A arca da Aliança de Jeová! Nem lhes virá ela ao pensamento, nem dela se lembrarão; não a visitarão, nem será ela restabelecida. 17 Naquele tempo, chamarão a Jerusalém o *Jr 17.12;Ez 43.7Trono de Jeová; nela se reunirão *Jr 3.19;Jr 4.2;12.15-16;16.19todas as nações, em *Is 60.9nome de Jeová, *Jr 11.8e não andarão mais após a obstinação do seu coração maligno. 18 *Jr 50.4-5;Os 1.11Naqueles dias, a casa de Judá andará com a casa de Israel, e virão juntamente *Jr 16.15;31.8da terra do Norte para a terra que *Am 9.15dei em herança a vossos pais.

Israel é convidado e encorajado a se arrepender

19 Mas eu disse: Como te porei entre os filhos e te darei a terra desejável, a mais *Sl 16.6formosa herança das nações? Eu disse: Chamar-me-eis *Jr 3.4;Is 63.16Meu pai e não vos desviareis de me seguirdes. 20 Deveras, do como que a mulher se aparta *Jr 3.6-7aleivosamente do seu companheiro, assim *Is 48.8aleivosamente te houveste comigo, ó casa de Israel, diz Jeová. 21 Uma voz se ouve *Jr 3.2;Jr 7.29;Is 15.2nos altos escalvados, o choro e as súplicas dos filhos de Israel; porque perverteram o seu caminho, *Jr 2.32;13.25;Is 17.10esqueceram-se de Jeová, seu Deus. 22 *Jr 3.14Voltai, filhos apóstatas, *Jr 30.17;33.6;Os 6.1;14.4eu curarei as vossas apostasias.

Eis que somos vindos ter contigo, porque tu és *Jr 31.6Jeová, nosso Deus. 23 Na verdade, em vão é o som que vem *Jr 17.2dos outeiros e o tumulto nas montanhas; na verdade, em *Jr 17.14;31.7;Sl 3.8Jeová, nosso Deus, está a salvação de Israel. 24 Mas a coisa vergonhosa *Jr 8.16devorou o trabalho de nossos pais desde a nossa mocidade: os seus rebanhos e os seus gados, seus filhos e suas filhas. 25 Deitemo-nos em nossa *Jr 3.13;Jr 14.20vergonha, e cubra-nos a nossa confusão, porque temos *Ed 9.7pecado contra Jeová, nosso Deus, nós e nossos pais, *Jr 22.21desde a nossa mocidade até o dia de hoje; e não obedecemos à voz de Jeová, nosso Deus.

1 They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man’s, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.*3.1 They say: Heb. Saying 2 Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness. 3 Therefore the showers have been withholden, and there hath been no latter rain; and thou hadst a whore’s forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed. 4 Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My father, thou art the guide of my youth? 5 Will he reserve his anger for ever? will he keep it to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and done evil things as thou couldest.

6 The LORD said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot. 7 And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it. 8 And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also. 9 And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.*3.9 lightness: or, fame 10 And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the LORD.*3.10 feignedly: Heb. in falsehood 11 And the LORD said unto me, The backsliding Israel hath justified herself more than treacherous Judah.

12 Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger for ever. 13 Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD. 14 Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion: 15 And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding. 16 And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.*3.16 come to mind: Heb. come upon the heart*3.16 that…: or, it be magnified 17 At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.*3.17 imagination: or, stubbornness 18 In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.*3.18 with: or, to*3.18 given…: or, caused your fathers to possess 19 But I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of nations? and I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me.*3.19 from me: Heb. from after me*3.19 a goodly…: Heb. an heritage of glory, or, beauty*3.19 pleasant…: Heb. land of desire

20 Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD.*3.20 husband: Heb. friend 21 A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the LORD their God. 22 Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the LORD our God. 23 Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains: truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel. 24 For shame hath devoured the labour of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters. 25 We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.
