A carta de Jeremias aos cativos de Babilônia

1 Ora, são estas as palavras da *Jr 29.25,29;2Cr 30.1,6;Et 9.20carta que o profeta Jeremias enviou de Jerusalém aos que restavam dos anciãos do cativeiro, e aos sacerdotes, e aos profetas, e a todo o povo que Nabucodonosor levara cativos de Jerusalém para Babilônia, 2 depois que saíram de Jerusalém o rei *Jr 22.24-28;24.1;27.20;2Rs 24.12-16;2Cr 36.9-10Jeconias, e a *Jr 13.18rainha-mãe, e os eunucos, e os príncipes de Judá e Jerusalém, e os artífices, e os ferreiros. 3 Estas são as palavras da carta mandada por mão de Elasa, filho de Safã, e de Gemarias, filho de *1Cr 6.13Hilquias (os quais enviou Zedequias, rei de Judá, a Babilônia, a Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia): 4 Assim diz Jeová dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel, a todos os do cativeiro que *Jr 24.5;Is 10.5-6fiz levar cativos de Jerusalém para Babilônia: 5 *Jr 29.10,28Edificai casas e habitai nelas; plantai jardins e comei o fruto deles; 6 tomai *Jr 16.2-4mulheres e gerai filhos e filhas; tomai mulheres para vossos filhos e dai vossas filhas a maridos, para que tenham filhos e filhas; multiplicai-vos aí e não vos diminuais. 7 *Dn 4.27;6.4-5Buscai a paz da cidade, para a qual fiz que fosseis levados cativos, e *Ed 6.10;7.23;Dn 4.19;1Tm 2.1-2orai por ela a Jeová; porque, na sua paz, vós tereis paz. 8 Pois assim diz Jeová dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel: *Jr 14.14;23.21;28.15Não vos enganem os vossos *Jr 29.1;Jr 27.9profetas que estão no meio de vós, e os vossos adivinhadores, nem deis ouvidos aos vossos *Jr 23.25,27sonhos que vós sonhais. 9 Pois eles vos *Jr 29.21;Jr 27.15profetizam falsamente em meu nome; *Jr 29.31não os enviei, diz Jeová. 10 Assim diz Jeová: Logo que forem cumpridos para Babilônia *Jr 25.12;2Cr 36.21-23;Dn 9.2;Zc 7.5setenta anos, visitar-vos-ei e cumprirei a *Jr 24.6-7;Sf 2.7minha boa palavra dada a vós, fazendo-vos voltar para este lugar. 11 Eu sei os *Jr 23.5-6;30.9-10;Sl 40.5pensamentos que tenho acerca de vós, diz Jeová, pensamentos de *Jr 30.18-22;Is 40.9-11paz e não de mal, para vos dar *Jr 31.17;Os 2.15um futuro e uma expectação. 12 *Jr 33.3;Sl 50.15Invocar-me-eis, e ireis, e orareis a mim, e *Sl 145.19eu vos ouvirei. 13 *Dt 4.29Buscar-me-eis e me achareis quando me *Jr 24.7;1Cr 22.19;2Cr 22.9buscardes de todo o vosso coração. 14 Eu serei *Dt 30.1-10achado de vós, diz Jeová, e *Jr 30.3;32.37-41farei voltar os vossos cativos, *Jr 23.8;Is 43.5-6e ajuntar-vos-ei de todas as nações e todos os lugares para onde vos tenho lançado, diz Jeová; *Jr 3.14;12.15;16.15e far-vos-ei voltar para o lugar donde vos fiz ir para o exílio.

15 Pois dissestes: Jeová nos suscitou profetas em *Jr 29.21,24Babilônia. 16 Assim diz Jeová acerca do rei que se assenta sobre o trono de Davi e acerca de todo o povo que habita nesta cidade, a saber, vossos irmãos que *Jr 38.2-3,17,23não saíram conosco para o exílio; 17 assim diz Jeová dos Exércitos: Eis que vou enviar sobre eles *Jr 29.18;Jr 27.8;32.24a espada, a fome e a peste e fá-los-ei como *Jr 24.3,8-10figos péssimos, que não se podem comer, de ruins que são. 18 Persegui-los-ei com a espada, com a fome e com a peste e *Jr 24.9;34.17;Ez 12.15fá-los-ei um espetáculo horrendo para todos os reinos da terra, *Jr 42.18;Is 65.15e objeto de execração, e de espanto, e de assobios, *Jr 25.9;Lm 2.15-16e de opróbrio, entre todas as nações para onde os tenho lançado; 19 porque *Jr 6.19não escutaram as minhas palavras, diz Jeová, com as quais lhes enviei os *Jr 26.5;35.15meus servos, os profetas, levantando-me cedo e enviando-os. Na verdade, não escutaram, diz Jeová. 20 Ouvi, pois, a palavra de Jeová, vós todos os exilados que *Jr 24.5;Ez 11.9enviei de Jerusalém para Babilônia.

21 Assim diz Jeová dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel, acerca de Acabe, filho de Colaías, e acerca de Zedequias, filho de Maaseias, que vos *Jr 29.8-9;Jr 14.14-15;Lm 2.14profetizam mentiras em meu nome: Eis que os entregarei nas mãos de Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia; e ele fará matá-los diante dos vossos olhos. 22 Deles será formulada *Is 65.15uma maldição por todos os exilados de Judá que estão em Babilônia, dizendo: Faça-te Jeová como a Zedequias e como a Acabe, os quais o rei de Babilônia *Dn 3.6,21assou no fogo; 23 porque *Gn 34.7;2Sm 13.12cometeram insensatez em Israel, e *Jr 5.8;23.14adulteraram com as mulheres dos seus próximos, e falaram *Jr 29.8-9,21falsamente em meu nome palavras que não lhes mandei. Eu é *Jr 7.11;16.17;Pv 5.21;Ml 3.5que sei e sou testemunha, diz Jeová.

24 *Jr 29.31-32A Semaías, neelamita, dirás: 25 Assim diz Jeová dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel: Porquanto tu enviaste em teu nome *Jr 29.1cartas a todo o povo que está em Jerusalém, e *Jr 29.29;Jr 21.1;37.3;52.24;2Rs 25.18a Sofonias, filho do sacerdote Maaseias, e a todos os sacerdotes, dizendo: 26 Jeová te constituiu sacerdote em lugar do sacerdote Joiada, para que *Jr 20.1fosses encarregado da Casa de Jeová, no tocante a todo homem que *2Rs 9.11;Os 9.7;Mc 3.21;Jo 10.20;At 26.24-25;2Co 5.13está fora de si e *Dt 13.1-5;Zc 13.1-5profetiza, a fim de que *Jr 20.1-2;At 16.24o metas no cepo e no tronco; 27 agora, pois, por que não repreendeste a Jeremias de *Jr 1.1Anatote, que vos profetiza? 28 Pois *Jr 29.1enviou mensageiros a vós, em Babilônia, a dizer: *Jr 29.10Coisa dilatada é; *Jr 29.5edificai casas e habitai nelas; plantai jardins e comei o fruto deles. 29 *Jr 29.25Sofonias, o sacerdote, leu esta carta aos ouvidos do profeta Jeremias. 30 Então, veio a palavra de Jeová a Jeremias, dizendo: 31 Manda dizer *Jr 29.20a todos os exilados: Assim diz Jeová acerca de *Jr 29.24Semaías, neelamita: Porquanto vos *Jr 29.9,23;Jr 14.14-15;Ez 13.8-16,22-23profetizou Semaías, e eu não o enviei, *Jr 28.15e ele fez que vós confiásseis numa mentira, 32 portanto assim diz Jeová: Eis que *Jr 36.31castigarei a Semaías, neelamita, e a sua posteridade. *Jr 22.30;1Sm 2.30-34Não haverá dele varão que habite entre este povo, *Jr 29.10;Jr 17.6;2Rs 7.2,19-20nem verá ele o bem que hei de fazer ao meu povo, diz Jeová, *Jr 28.16;Dt 13.5porque pregou rebelião contra Jeová.

1 Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon; 2 (After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)*29.2 eunuchs: or, chamberlains 3 By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying, 4 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon; 5 Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them; 6 Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished. 7 And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed. 9 For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.*29.9 falsely: Heb. in a lie

10 For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place. 11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.*29.11 expected…: Heb. end and expectation 12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. 14 And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

15 Because ye have said, The LORD hath raised us up prophets in Babylon; 16 Know that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, and of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity; 17 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil. 18 And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them:*29.18 to be a curse: Heb. for a curse 19 Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.

20 Hear ye therefore the word of the LORD, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon: 21 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy a lie unto you in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes; 22 And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah which are in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire; 23 Because they have committed villany in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours’ wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, saith the LORD.

24 Thus shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,*29.24 Nehelamite: or, dreamer 25 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying, 26 The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks. 27 Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you? 28 For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them. 29 And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

30 Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying, 31 Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie: 32 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.*29.32 rebellion: Heb. revolt
