Profecia da derrota de Faraó em Carquemis

1 A palavra de Jeová que veio a Jeremias, o profeta, *Jr 1.10;25.15-38acerca das nações.

2 A respeito do *Jr 46.14;Jr 25.19; Ez 29—32Egito; acerca do exército de *2Rs 18.21;23.29,33-35Faraó-Neco, rei do Egito, que estava junto ao rio Eufrates em *2Cr 35.20;Is 10.9Carquemis, ao qual Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, derrotou *Jr 45.1no quarto ano de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá.

3 *Jr 51.11;Is 21.5;Jl 3.9;Na 2.1;3.14Preparai o escudo e o pavês, e chegai-vos para pelejar. 4 Aparelhai os cavalos, montai nos ginetes, e apresentai-vos com elmos; *Ez 21.9-11açacalai lanças, vesti-vos de *Jr 51.3;1Sm 17.5,38;2Cr 26.14;Ne 4.16couraças. 5 Por que tenho esta visão? eles se espantam *Jr 46.21;Is 42.17e voltam para trás; os seus *Is 5.25;Ez 39.18valentes são derrotados e fogem precipitados: *Jr 6.25;49.29terror há por todos os lados, diz Jeová. 6 Não fuja *Is 30.16o ligeiro, nem escape o valente; à banda do norte junto ao rio Eufrates *Jr 46.12,16;Dn 11.19tropeçaram e caíram. 7 Quem é este que *Jr 47.2sobe como o Nilo, cujas águas se agitam como os rios? 8 O Egito sobe como o Nilo, e as suas águas agitam-se como os rios; e diz: *Is 37.24Subirei, cobrirei a terra; *Is 10.13destruirei a cidade e os que nela habitam. 9 Subi, cavalos, *Jr 47.3;Na 2.4estrondeai, carros; e saiam os valentes: Cus e *Na 3.9Pute, que manejam o escudo e os *Is 66.19ludins que manejam e entesam o arco. 10 Aquele dia, porém, é dia do Senhor, Jeová dos Exércitos, dia de *Jr 50.15,28vingança em que se vingará dos seus adversários; *Jr 12.12;Is 31.8a espada devorará e se fartará e se embriagará com o sangue deles. Pois o Senhor, Jeová dos exércitos, tem um *Is 34.6;Sf 1.7sacrifício na terra do norte junto ao rio Eufrates. 11 Sobe a Gileade, e toma *Jr 8.22bálsamo, ó *Jr 31.4,21;Is 47.1virgem filha do Egito; em vão multiplicas os remédios, *Jr 30.13;Mq 1.9;Na 3.19não há cura para ti. 12 As nações já ouviram a *Jr 2.36;Na 3.8-10tua vergonha, e a terra está cheia do teu *Jr 14.2clamor; porque *Jr 46.6;Is 19.2o valente tropeçou no valente, ambos juntos caíram.

Predição da invasão do Egito

13 A palavra que Jeová falou ao profeta Jeremias sobre o haver de vir *Jr 43.11Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, e haver de ferir a terra do Egito.

14 Anunciai-o no Egito e fazei ouvir isto em *Jr 44.1Migdol; fazei também ouvir isto em Mênfis e em *Jr 43.8Tafnes; dizei: Apresenta-te, e prepara-te; pois a espada já *Jr 46.10;Jr 2.30;Is 1.20;Na 2.13devorou ao redor de ti. 15 Por que está derrubado *Jr 46.5;Is 66.15-16o teu valente? ele não ficou de pé, porque Jeová *Sl 18.14,39;68.1-2o empurrou. 16 Jeová fez que muitos *Jr 46.6;Lv 26.36-37caíssem; eles caíram uns sobre os outros, e disseram: Levanta-te, e *Jr 51.9voltemos para o nosso povo e para a terra onde nascemos, para fugirmos da *Jr 50.16espada opressora. 17 Clamaram ali: *Êx 15.9-10;1Rs 20.10-11;Is 19.11-16Estrondo é o nome de Faraó, rei do Egito; deixou passar o tempo apontado. 18 Pela minha vida, diz *Jr 48.15;Ml 1.14o Rei, cujo nome é Jeová dos Exércitos, certamente assim virá o rei do Egito como o *Js 19.22;Jz 4.6;Sl 89.12Tabor entre os montes e como o *Js 12.22;1Rs 18.42Carmelo junto ao mar. 19 Ó *Jr 46.11filha que habitas no Egito, prepara-te para *Is 20.4ires ao cativeiro; pois *Jr 46.14;Ez 30.13Mênfis se tornará em desolação, e ficará deserta e despovoada. 20 O Egito é *Jr 50.11uma novilha mui formosa; mas *Jr 46.24do norte é vindo um tavão sobre ela. 21 Também os *Jr 46.5;2Sm 10.6;2Rs 7.6seus soldados mercenários no meio dela são como *Is 34.7bezerros cevados; eles igualmente voltaram para trás, *Jr 18.17fugiram juntos, não ficaram firmes; pois é vindo sobre eles o dia da sua calamidade, o tempo *Jr 48.44;Os 9.7;Ob 13;Mq 7.4da sua visitação. 22 O seu ruído é como o da serpente que foge; à frente dum exército marcharão e virão contra ela com machados como os que cortam lenha. 23 *Jr 21.14O bosque, diz Jeová, que de outro modo ninguém o poderá examinar, eles o cortarão; porquanto são mais numerosos do que os *Jz 6.5;7.12;Jl 2.25gafanhotos, são inumeráveis. 24 Envergonhada será *Jr 46.19a filha do Egito, entregue nas mãos *Jr 46.20;Jr 1.15do povo do norte. 25 Jeová dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel, diz: Eis que *Jr 43.12castigarei a Amom de *Ez 30.14-16;Na 3.8Nô e a *Jr 44.30Faraó e ao Egito, juntamente com os seus *Jr 43.12-13;Êx 12.12;Ez 30.13;Sf 2.11deuses e com os seus reis, a saber, a Faraó e aos que *Is 20.5nele confiam. 26 Entregá-los-ei nas mãos dos que *Jr 44.30;Ez 32.11procuram tirar-lhes a vida, e nas mãos de Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, e nas mãos dos seus servos: *Ez 29.8-14e depois será habitada, como nos dias antigos, diz Jeová.

Israel é consolado

27 Mas tu *Jr 30.10-11;Is 41.13-14não tenhas medo, servo meu Jacó, nem te espantes, Israel; porque eu *Jr 23.3-4;29.14;Is 11.11;Mq 7.12te livrarei de terras remotas e da terra do seu cativeiro a tua linhagem; voltará Jacó, e ficará tranquilo *Jr 23.6;50.19e sossegado, e ninguém o amedrontará. 28 Tu não tenhas medo, servo meu Jacó; porque *Jr 1.19;Sl 46.7,11;Is 8.9-10;43.2eu sou contigo. Pois destruirei totalmente todas as nações para onde te arrojei. A ti, porém, *Jr 4.27;Am 9.8-9não te destruirei de todo, mas *Jr 10.24;Hc 3.2castigar-te-ei com juízo, e de maneira alguma te terei por inocente.

1 The word of the LORD which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Gentiles; 2 Against Egypt, against the army of Pharaoh-necho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah. 3 Order ye the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle. 4 Harness the horses; and get up, ye horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, and put on the brigandines. 5 Wherefore have I seen them dismayed and turned away back? and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled apace, and look not back: for fear was round about, saith the LORD.*46.5 beaten…: Heb. broken in pieces*46.5 fled…: Heb. fled a flight 6 Let not the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they shall stumble, and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates. 7 Who is this that cometh up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers? 8 Egypt riseth up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he saith, I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof. 9 Come up, ye horses; and rage, ye chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, that handle the shield; and the Lydians, that handle and bend the bow.*46.9 the Ethiopians: Heb. 12 The nations have heard of thy shame, and thy cry hath filled the land: for the mighty man hath stumbled against the mighty, and they are fallen both together.

13 The word that the LORD spake to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt. 14 Declare ye in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Noph and in Tahpanhes: say ye, Stand fast, and prepare thee; for the sword shall devour round about thee. 15 Why are thy valiant men swept away? they stood not, because the LORD did drive them. 16 He made many to fall, yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword.*46.16 made…: Heb. multiplied the faller 17 They did cry there, Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he hath passed the time appointed. 18 As I live, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come. 19 O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish thyself to go into captivity: for Noph shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant.*46.19 furnish…: Heb. make thee instruments of captivity 20 Egypt is like a very fair heifer, but destruction cometh; it cometh out of the north. 21 Also her hired men are in the midst of her like fatted bullocks; for they also are turned back, and are fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their calamity was come upon them, and the time of their visitation.*46.21 fatted…: Heb. bullocks of the stall 22 The voice thereof shall go like a serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood. 23 They shall cut down her forest, saith the LORD, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable. 24 The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north. 25 The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saith; Behold, I will punish the multitude of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all them that trust in him:*46.25 multitude: or, nourisher: Heb. 27 But fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid. 28 Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the LORD: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.*46.28 not leave…: or, not utterly cut thee off
