* 34 Em hebraico este salmo é um poema acróstico; cada versículo começa com uma letra sucessiva do alfabeto hebraico. Salmo de Davi sobre a ocasião em que se fingiu de louco diante de Abimeleque, que o expulsou de sua presença.

1 Louvarei o Senhor em todo o tempo;

meus lábios sempre o louvarão.

2 Somente no Senhor me gloriarei;

que todos os humildes se alegrem.

3 Venham, proclamemos a grandeza do Senhor;

juntos, exaltemos o seu nome.

4 Busquei o Senhor, e ele me respondeu;

livrou-me de todos os meus temores.

5 Os que olham para ele ficarão radiantes;

no rosto deles não haverá sombra de decepção.

6 Clamei ao Senhor em meu desespero, e ele me ouviu;

livrou-me de todas as minhas angústias.

7 O anjo do Senhor é guardião;

ele cerca e defende os que o temem.

8 Provem e vejam que o Senhor é bom!

Como é feliz o que nele se refugia!

9 Temam o Senhor, vocês que lhe são fiéis,

pois os que o temem terão tudo de que precisam.

10 Até mesmo os leões jovens e fortes passam fome,

mas aos que buscam o Senhor nada de bom faltará.

11 Venham, meus filhos, e ouçam-me;

eu os ensinarei a temer o Senhor.

12 Quem deseja ter uma vida

longa e próspera?

13 Refreie a língua de falar maldades

e os lábios de dizerem mentiras.

14 Afaste-se do mal e faça o bem;

busque a paz e esforce-se para mantê-la.

15 Os olhos do Senhor estão sobre os justos,

e seus ouvidos, abertos para seus clamores.

16 O Senhor, porém, volta o rosto contra os que praticam o mal;

apagará da terra qualquer lembrança deles.

17 O Senhor ouve os justos quando clamam por socorro;

ele os livra de todas as suas angústias.

18 O Senhor está perto dos que têm o coração quebrantado

e resgata os de espírito oprimido.

19 O justo enfrenta muitas dificuldades,

mas o Senhor o livra de todas elas.

20 Pois o Senhor protege os ossos do justo;

nem um sequer será quebrado.

21 A calamidade certamente destruirá os perversos,

e os que odeiam o justo serão castigados.

22 O Senhor, porém, resgatará os que o servem;

ninguém que nele se refugia será condenado.

A Psalm of David, when he changed his behaviour before Abimelech; who drove him away, and he departed.

2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.

3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.

4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

5 They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.*34.5 were lightened: or, they flowed unto him

6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.

10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

12 What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?

13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.

16 The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

17 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
