Salmo de Asafe.

1 Certamente Deus é bom para Israel,

para os que têm coração puro.

2 Quanto a mim, quase tropecei;

meus pés escorregaram e quase caí.

3 Pois tive inveja dos orgulhosos

quando os vi prosperar apesar de sua perversidade.

4 Levam uma vida sem sofrimento

e têm o corpo saudável e forte.

5 Não enfrentam dificuldades,

nem estão cheios de problemas, como os demais.

6 Ostentam o orgulho como um colar de pedras preciosas

e vestem-se de crueldade.

7 Seus olhos cobiçam sempre mais,

e o coração vive cheio de más intenções.

8 Zombam e falam somente maldades;

em seu orgulho, ameaçam usar de violência.

9 Falam como se fossem donos dos céus,

e suas palavras arrogantes percorrem a terra.

10 Por isso, o povo se volta para eles

e bebe todas as suas palavras.

11 "O que Deus sabe?", perguntam.

"Acaso o Altíssimo tem conhecimento disso?"

12 Vejam como os perversos desfrutam uma vida tranquila,

enquanto suas riquezas se multiplicam.

13 Foi à toa que mantive o coração puro?

Foi em vão que agi de modo íntegro?

14 O dia todo só enfrento problemas;

cada manhã sou castigado.

15 Se eu tivesse falado como eles,

teria traído teu povo.

16 Tentei compreender por que prosperam;

que tarefa difícil!

17 Então, entrei em teu santuário, ó Deus,

e por fim entendi o destino deles.

18 Tu os puseste num caminho escorregadio

e os fizeste cair do precipício para a destruição.

19 São destruídos de repente,

completamente tomados de pavor.

20 Quando te levantares, ó Senhor,

rirás das ideias tolas deles,

como quem ri de um sonho pela manhã.

21 Percebi, então, que meu coração se amargurou

e que eu estava despedaçado por dentro.

22 Fui tolo e ignorante;

a teus olhos devo ter parecido um animal irracional.

23 E, no entanto, ainda pertenço a ti;

tu seguras minha mão direita.

24 Tu me guias com teu conselho

e me conduzes a um destino glorioso.

25 Quem mais eu tenho no céu senão a ti?

Eu te desejo mais que a qualquer coisa na terra.

26 Minha saúde pode acabar e meu espírito fraquejar,

mas Deus continua sendo a força de meu coração;

ele é minha possessão para sempre.

27 Os que te abandonam perecerão,

pois destróis os que de ti se afastam.

28 Quanto a mim, como é bom estar perto de Deus!

2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.

3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

4 For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.*73.4 firm: Heb. fat

6 Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.

8 They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.

9 They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

10 Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

11 And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

12 Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

13 Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.

14 For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.*73.14 chastened: Heb. my chastisement was

15 If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.

16 When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;*73.16 too…: Heb. labour in mine eyes

17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.

18 Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.

19 How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.

20 As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.

21 Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.

22 So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.*73.22 ignorant: Heb. I knew not*73.22 before: Heb. with

23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.

24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.

26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.*73.26 strength: Heb. rock

27 For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.

28 But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
