Salmo de Asafe.

1 Ó Deus, as nações invadiram a terra que te pertence;

profanaram teu santo templo

e transformaram Jerusalém num monte de ruínas.

2 Deixaram os corpos de teus servos

para servirem de alimento às aves do céu.

A carne de teus fiéis

se tornou comida para os animais selvagens.

3 O sangue correu como água ao redor de Jerusalém,

e não resta ninguém para sepultar os mortos.

4 Nossos vizinhos zombam de nós;

somos objeto de riso e desprezo para os que nos rodeiam.

5 Até quando, Senhor, ficarás irado conosco? Será para sempre?

Até quando teu zelo arderá como fogo?

6 Derrama tua fúria sobre as nações que não te reconhecem,

sobre os reinos que não invocam teu nome.

7 Pois devoraram teu povo, Israel,*79.7 Em hebraico, devoraram Jacó. Ver nota em 44.4.

e transformaram suas casas em ruínas.

8 Não nos culpes pelos pecados de nossos antepassados!

Que a tua compaixão venha depressa nos socorrer,

pois é grande o nosso desespero!

9 Ajuda-nos, ó Deus de nossa salvação,

pela glória do teu nome.

Livra-nos e perdoa nossos pecados,

pela honra do teu nome.

10 Por que permitir que as nações digam:

"Onde está o seu Deus?"

Mostra-nos tua vingança contra as nações,

pois elas derramaram o sangue de teus servos.

11 Ouve os gemidos dos prisioneiros;

por teu grande poder, salva os condenados à morte.

12 Ó Senhor, retribui sete vezes mais a nossos vizinhos

pelos insultos que lançaram contra ti.

13 Então nós, teu povo, ovelhas do teu pasto,

para sempre te daremos graças

e louvaremos tua grandeza por todas as gerações.

2 The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth.

3 Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and there was none to bury them.

4 We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.

5 How long, LORD? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire?

6 Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.

7 For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place.

8 O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low.*79.8 former…: or, the iniquities of them that were before us

9 Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name’s sake.

10 Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their God? let him be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the blood of thy servants which is shed.*79.10 revenging: Heb. vengeance
