1 Se o Senhor não constrói a casa,

o trabalho dos construtores é vão.

Se o Senhor não protege a cidade,

de nada adianta guardá-la com sentinelas.

2 É inútil trabalhar tanto,

desde a madrugada até tarde da noite,

e se preocupar em conseguir o alimento,

pois Deus cuida de seus amados enquanto dormem.*127.2 Ou Deus dá descanso a seus amados.

3 Os filhos são um presente do Senhor,

uma recompensa que ele dá.

4 Os filhos que o homem tem em sua juventude

são como flechas na mão do guerreiro.

5 Feliz é o que tem uma aljava cheia delas;

não será envergonhado

quando enfrentar seus inimigos às portas da cidade.
