1 Senhor, tu tens-me examinado, e conheces-me.2 Sabes tudo o que faço, mesmo as coisas mais simples como o sentar-me e o levantar-me. Nenhum dos meus pensamentos te escapa.3 Toda a minha conduta é registada por ti, acordado ou a descansar. Tudo sabes a meu respeito.4 Sem ser preciso que te diga seja o que for, tudo sabes.5 Proteges-me, à minha volta. A tua mão está sobre mim.7 Aliás, onde poderia eu ir, fora do alcance do teu Espírito? Onde poderia eu pôr-me que tu não me visses?8 Se subir até aos céus, tu aí estás. Se descer ao lugar dos mortos para aí descansar no sono da mortetambém aí estás.9 Se cavalgar nas brisas matinais, fugindo para além do mar,10 sempre a tua mão continua a guiar-me, e o teu poder a dar-me forças!11 Se eu disser: No profundo das trevas estarei perfeitamente escondido, a luz da presença de Deus é como um dia claro à minha volta!12 Não seriam as trevas que me haviam de separar de Deus. A sua luz é a mesma de dia e de noite. Para o Senhor escuridão e luz são a mesma coisa!13 Tu me fizeste, Senhor; toda a estrutura do meu ser foi formada mesmo no seio de minha mãe!14 Por isso te louvo, pela forma maravilhosa e admirável como sou formado. Quando penso nisso não posso deixar de afirmar: É um mundo maravilhoso!15 Logo nos primeiros momentos da formação do meu ser, quando só tu sabias que me estavas a formar, já aí intervinha o teu poder criador.16 Os teus olhos viam o meu corpo em formação, e no teu livro tudo ia sendo registado; tudo se ia realizando segundo o que estava programado mesmo antes de eu começar a existir!19 Certamente, Senhor, que liquidarás o perverso. Afastem-se de mim, gente sedenta de sangue!20 Só sabem rebelar-se contra ti, e fazer chacota com o teu nome!21 Senhor, bem vês como aborreço esses que te odeiam, e como sofro por causa dessa gente que se levanta contra ti!22 Tenho por eles o maior repúdio! Para mim são meus inimigos!23 Examina-me, ó Deus, observa o meu íntimo. Prova-me e analisa-me os pensamentos.24 Vê tudo o que haja em mim de mau, e conduz-me pelo caminho eterno!

O Yahweh, you have searched me, and known [me].2 You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought far off.3 You search out my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways.4 For there is not a word in my tongue, But, look, O Yahweh, you know it altogether.5 You have beset me behind and before, And laid your hand on me.6 [Such] knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I can't attain to it.7 Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?8 If I ascend up into heaven, you are there: If I make my bed in Sheol, look, you are there.9 If I take the wings of the morning, And stay in the uttermost parts of the sea;10 Even there your hand will lead me, And your right hand will hold me.11 If I say, Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light about me will be night;12 Even the darkness does not hide from you, But the night shines as the day: The darkness and the light are both alike [to you].13 For you formed my inward parts: You knit me together in my mother's womb.14 I will give thanks to you; because of your awesome works I am distinguished Wonderful are your works; And my soul knows that very well.15 My frame was not hidden from you, When I was made in secret, [And] curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.16 Your eyes saw me developing from conception; And in your book they were all written, [Even] the days that were formed [for me] When as yet there was none of them.17 How precious also are your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: When I awake, I am still with you.19 Surely you will slay the wicked, O God: Depart from me therefore, you{+} bloodthirsty men.20 For they speak against you wickedly, And your enemies are lifted up in vain.21 Don't I hate them, O Yahweh, that hate you? And am I not grieved with those who rise up against you?22 I hate them with perfect hatred: They have become my enemies.23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts;24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.
