1 God of my praise, don’t remain silent,

2 for they have opened the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of deceit against me.

They have spoken to me with a lying tongue.

3 They have also surrounded me with words of hatred,

and fought against me without a cause.

4 In return for my love, they are my adversaries;

but I am in prayer.

5 They have rewarded me evil for good,

and hatred for my love.

6 Set a wicked man over him.

Let an adversary stand at his right hand.

7 When he is judged, let him come out guilty.

Let his prayer be turned into sin.

8 Let his days be few.

Let another take his office.

9 Let his children be fatherless,

and his wife a widow.

10 Let his children be wandering beggars.

Let them be sought from their ruins.

11 Let the creditor seize all that he has.

Let strangers plunder the fruit of his labor.

12 Let there be no one to extend kindness to him,

neither let there be anyone to have pity on his fatherless children.

13 Let his posterity be cut off.

In the generation following let their name be blotted out.

14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered by the LORD.

Don’t let the sin of his mother be blotted out.

15 Let them be before the LORD continually,

that he may cut off their memory from the earth;

16 because he didn’t remember to show kindness,

but persecuted the poor and needy man,

the broken in heart, to kill them.

17 Yes, he loved cursing, and it came to him.

He didn’t delight in blessing, and it was far from him.

18 He clothed himself also with cursing as with his garment.

It came into his inward parts like water,

like oil into his bones.

19 Let it be to him as the clothing with which he covers himself,

for the belt that is always around him.

20 This is the reward of my adversaries from the LORD,

of those who speak evil against my soul.

21 But deal with me, GOD the Lord, for your name’s sake,

because your loving kindness is good, deliver me;

22 for I am poor and needy.

My heart is wounded within me.

23 I fade away like an evening shadow.

I am shaken off like a locust.

24 My knees are weak through fasting.

My body is thin and lacks fat.

25 I have also become a reproach to them.

When they see me, they shake their head.

26 Help me, LORD, my God.

Save me according to your loving kindness;

27 that they may know that this is your hand;

that you, LORD, have done it.

28 They may curse, but you bless.

When they arise, they will be shamed,

but your servant shall rejoice.

29 Let my adversaries be clothed with dishonor.

Let them cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.

30 I will give great thanks to the LORD with my mouth.

Yes, I will praise him among the multitude.

31 For he will stand at the right hand of the needy,

to save him from those who judge his soul.

1 Ó Deus, que és o objecto do meu louvor, não permaneças calado.

2 Quando os perversos me caluniam e dizem mentiras a meu respeito, eles sabem muito bem que não têm a mínima razão para me odiarem e para estarem cerradamente contra mim, como fazem.

4 Em paga da minha boa vontade, da minha compreensão, são meus inimigos. Por isso quanto a mim só me resta fazer-te oração!

5 Pagam-me o bem com o mal, o amor com o ódio.

6 Eles dizem: Nomeiem um juiz corrupto, e que haja um acusador contra ele.

7 Que seja julgado e condenado. Que a sentença seja infalivelmente a sua condenação. Que até quando te fizer orações isso seja considerado um pecado!

8 Que os dias da sua vida sejam poucos e breves, e que venham outros tirar-lhe o trabalho, e o lugar na sociedade.

9 Que os seus filhos fiquem órfãos, e a sua mulher viúva.

10 Que sejam expulsos das ruínas do seu lar e os seus descendentes sejam obrigados a mendigar o pão por terras distantes.

11 Que os credores lancem mão de tudo o que era dele, e que estranhos fiquem com tudo o que ganhou.

12 Que ninguém tenha pena dele nem dó dos seus órfãos.

13 Que a sua posteridade venha a desaparecer, e que ninguém se lembre mais dele, passada uma geração!

14 Que o Senhor se lembre da maldade dos seus pais, para a castigar. Que não os tenha por inocentes.

15 Que o Senhor tenha esses pecados sempre presentes, e que nunca mais ninguém se lembre de que existiu esse homem.

16 Pois recusou ser bom para com o seu próximo. Chegou mesmo ao ponto de perseguir os que estavam aflitos e tinham necessidades, e os que viviam com o coração angustiado; e perseguiu-os até os liquidar!

17 Sendo assim, visto que teve alegria na maldição dos outros, pois que agora venha maldição sobre ele. Se nunca quis a tua bênção, por que razão havia ele agora de ser abençoado por ti?

18 Nas suas relações com os outros a maldição era algo que lhe era tão habitual como a própria roupa que se veste, ou a água que se bebe normalmente!

19 Então agora que essas mesmas maldições que distribuiu se voltem contra ele, se lhes pegue como a roupa ao corpo, que o aperte como o cinto que tem à cintura!

20 Esse é o castigo que o Senhor dará aos meus inimigos, aos que dizem toda a espécie de mentiras a meu respeito, e que querem a liquidação da minha alma!

21 Mas tu, Senhor meu Deus, sê a meu favor, e isso para que o teu nome não seja desonrado! Livra-me, porque eu sei que é grande a tua bondade!

22 Estou aflito e necessitado. O meu coração vai desfalecendo.

23 Vou resvalando pela encosta da vida em direcção à sombra da morte. Em breve a vida me sacudirá como se sacode um insecto.

24 Os meus joelhos estão esfraquecidos de tanto jejuar, estou na pele e osso!

25 Sou já, para toda a gente, como que a própria imagem do fracasso; olham para mim e não fazem mais do que abanar a cabeça.

26 Ajuda-me, Senhor meu Deus! Salva-me, porque és cheio de bondade!

27 Para que toda a gente constate que intervéns na minha vida.

28 Eles podem amaldiçoar, é certo. Mas que me importa isso se és tu quem me abençoa!

29 Bem podem levantar-se para me destruir: os seus planos falharão redondamente, e eu hei-de continuar a alegrar-me com o meu Deus! Que eles fracassem em tudo o que fizerem! Que a desgraça se lhes cole à vida como a roupa ao corpo.

30 Mas eu quero agradecer ao Senhor com toda a força, e contarei a toda a gente o que fez por mim.

31 Pois que ele permanece ao lado do pobre para o livrar dos que pretendem liquidar-lhe a alma.
