| 5 | Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler. | Szabadítsd ki magadat, mint a zerge a [vadász] kezébõl, és mint a madár a madarásznak kezébõl. |
| 6 | Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: | Eredj a hangyához, te rest, nézd meg az õ útait, és légy bölcs! |
| 7 | Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, | A kinek nincs vezére, igazgatója, vagy ura, |
| 8 | Provideth her provisions in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. | Nyárban szerzi meg az õ kenyerét, aratáskor gyûjti eledelét. |
| 9 | How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? | Oh te rest, meddig fekszel? mikor kelsz fel a te álmodból? |
| 10 | Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: | Még egy kis álom, még egy kis szunnyadás, még egy kis kéz-összefonás, hogy pihenjek; |
| 11 | So shall thy poverty come as one that traveleth, and thy want as an armed man. | Így jõ el, mint az útonjáró, a te szegénységed, és a te szûkölködésed, mint a paizsos férfiú! |
| 12 | A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth. | Haszontalan ember, hamis férfiú, a ki álnok szájjal jár, |
| 13 | He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers; | A ki hunyorgat szemeivel; lábaival is szól, és ujjaival jelt ád. |
| 14 | Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord. | Álnokság van az õ szívében, gonoszt forral minden idõben, háborúságot indít. |
| 15 | Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy. | Annakokáért hirtelen eljõ az õ nyomorúsága, gyorsan megrontatik, s nem lesz gyógyulása. |
| 16 | These six things doth the LORD hate: yes, seven are an abomination to him: | E hat dolgot gyûlöli az Úr, és hét dolog útálat az õ lelkének: |
| 17 | A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood. | A kevély szemek, a hazug nyelv, és az ártatlan vért ontó kezek, |
| 18 | A heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that are swift in running to mischief, | Az álnok gondolatokat forraló elme, a gonoszra sietséggel futó lábak, |
| 19 | A false witness that speaketh lies, and him that soweth discord among brethren. | A hazugságlehelõ hamis tanú, és a ki szerez háborúságokat az atyafiak között! |
| 20 | My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: | Õrizd meg, fiam, atyád parancsolatját, és anyád tanítását el ne hagyd. |
| 21 | Bind them continually upon thy heart, and tie them about thy neck. | Kösd azokat szívedre mindenkor, fûzd a nyakadba. |
| 22 | When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee. | Valahová mégysz, vezérel téged, mikor aluszol, õriz téged, mikor felserkensz, beszélget te veled. |
| 23 | For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: | Mert szövétnek a parancsolat, és a tudomány világosság, és életnek úta a tanító-feddések. |
| 24 | To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. | Hogy a gonosz asszonytól téged megõrizzenek, az idegen asszony nyelvének hizelkedésétõl. |
| 25 | Lust not after her beauty in thy heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids. | Ne kivánd az õ szépségét szivedben, és meg ne fogjon téged szemöldökeivel; |
| 26 | For by means of a lewd woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life. | Mert a parázna asszony miatt [jut az ember] egy darab kenyérre, és [más] férfi felesége drága életet vadász! |
| 27 | Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? | Vehet-é valaki tüzet az õ kebelébe, hogy ruhái meg ne égnének? |
| 28 | Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? | Vagy járhat-é valaki elevenszénen, hogy lábai meg ne égnének? |
| 29 | So he that goeth in to his neighbor's wife; whoever toucheth her shall not be innocent. | Így van, valaki bemegy felebarátjának feleségéhez, nem marad büntetlen, valaki illeti azt! |
| 30 | Men do not despise a thief, if he stealeth to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; | Nem útálják meg a lopót, ha lop az õ kivánságának betöltésére, mikor éhezik; |
| 31 | But if he is found, he shall restore seven-fold; he shall give all the substance of his house. | És ha rajta kapatik, hétannyit kell adnia, az õ házának minden marháját érette adhatja; |
| 32 | But whoever committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul. | A ki pedig asszonynyal paráználkodik, bolond; a ki magát el akarja veszteni, az cselekszi ezt! |
| 33 | A wound and dishonor shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away. | Vereséget és gyalázatot nyer, és az õ gyalázatja el nem töröltetik. |
| 34 | For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance. | Mert a féltékenység a férfiú haragja, és nem cselekszik kegyelmességgel a bosszúállásnak napján. |
| 35 | He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts. | Nem gondol semmi váltsággal, nem nyugszik meg rajta, még ha nagy sok ajándékot adsz is néki. |
