| 4 | Labor not to be rich: cease from thy own wisdom. | Ne fáraszd magadat ebben, hogy meggazdagulj; [ez ilyen testi] eszességedtõl szünjél meg. |
| 5 | Wilt thou set thy eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make to themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle towards heaven. | Avagy a te szemeidet veted-é arra? holott az semmi, mert olyan szárnyakat szerez magának nagy hamar, mint a saskeselyû, és az ég felé elrepül! |
| 6 | Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainties: | Ne egyél az irígy szemûnek étkébõl, és ne kivánd az õ csemegéit; |
| 7 | For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. | Mert mint a ki számítgatja [a falatot] magában, olyan õ: egyél és igyál, azt mondja te néked; de azért nem jó akarattal van tehozzád. |
| 8 | The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words. | A te falatodat, a melyet megettél, kihányod; és a te ékes beszédidet csak hiába vesztegeted. |
| 9 | Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words. | A bolondnak hallására ne szólj; mert megútálja a te beszédidnek bölcseségét. |
| 10 | Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless: | Ne mozdítsd meg a régi határt, és az árváknak mezeibe ne kapj; |
| 11 | For their redeemer is mighty; he will plead their cause with thee. | Mert az õ megváltójuk erõs, az forgatja az õ ügyöket ellened! |
| 12 | Apply thy heart to instruction, and thy ears to the words of knowledge. | Add a te elmédet az erkölcsi tanításra, és a te füleidet a bölcs beszédekre. |

| 14 | Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell. | Te vesszõvel vered meg õt: és az õ lelkét a pokolból ragadod ki. |
| 15 | My son, if thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine. | Szerelmes fiam, ha bölcs lesz a te elméd, örvendez a lelkem nékem is. |
| 16 | Yes, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things. | És vígadoznak az én veséim, a te ajkaidnak igazmondásán. |
| 17 | Let not thy heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long. | Ne irígykedjék a te szíved a bûnösökre; hanem az Úr félelmében [légy] egész napon; |
| 18 | For surely there is an end; and thy expectation shall not be cut off. | Mert [ennek] bizonyos vége van; a te várakozásod meg nem csalatkozik. |
| 19 | Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thy heart in the way. | Hallgass te, fiam, [engem,] hogy légy bölcs, és jártasd ez úton szívedet. |
| 20 | Be not among wine-bibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: | Ne légy azok közül való, a kik borral dõzsölnek; azok közül, a kik hússal dobzódnak. |
| 21 | For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags. | Mert a részeges és dobzódó szegény lesz, és rongyokba öltöztet az aluvás. |
| 22 | Hearken to thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old. | Hallgasd a te atyádat, a ki nemzett téged; és meg ne útáld a te anyádat, mikor megvénhedik. |
| 23 | Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. | Szerezz igazságot, és el ne adj; bölcseséget és erkölcsöt és eszességet. |
| 24 | The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. | Igen örül az igaznak atyja, és a bölcsnek szülõje annak vígadoz. |
| 25 | Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bore thee shall rejoice. | Vígadjon a te atyád és a te anyád, és örvendezzen a te szülõd. |
| 26 | My son, give me thy heart, and let thy eyes observe my ways. | Adjad, fiam, a te szívedet nékem, és a te szemeid az én útaimat megõrizzék. |
| 27 | For a lewd woman is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit. | Mert mély verem a tisztátalan asszony, és szoros kút az idegen asszony. |

| 34 | And thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. | És olyan leszel, mint a ki fekszik a tenger közepiben, és a ki fekszik az árbóczfának tetején. |
| 35 | They have stricken me, wilt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again. | Ütöttek engem, nékem nem fájt; vertek, nem éreztem! Mikor ébredek fel? Akkor folytatom, ismét megkeresem azt. |
