1 Se Jeová não edificar a casa, Em vão trabalham os que a edificam; Se Jeová não guardar a cidade, Em vão vigia o que a guarda.2 É inútil que madrugueis, que tarde repouseis, Que comais o pão de dores: Aos seus amados ele o dá enquanto dormem.3 Eis que os filhos são herança da parte de Jeová; O fruto do ventre é uma recompensa.4 Como setas na mão dum homem valente, Assim são os filhos da mocidade.5 Feliz é o homem que tem a sua aljava cheia deles; Não serão envergonhados, Quando falarem com os seus inimigos na porta.
