1 Ο Κύριος λέει: «Έτοιμος ήμουν ν’ απαντήσω, αλλά κανείς δε με ρωτούσε· πάντα μπορούσαν να με βρουν, αλλά κανείς δεν έψαχνε για μένα. Έλεγα, "εδώ είμαι, σας ακούω!" Μα σ’ ένα έθνος το ’λεγα που δε μ’ επικαλέστηκε ποτέ του.*σ’ ένα έθνος το ’λεγα που δε μ’ επικαλέστηκε ποτέ του, σύμφωνα με αρχαίες μεταφράσεις. Το εβρ. έχει «σε ένα έθνος που δεν ονομαζόταν με το όνομά μου».2 Τα χέρια μου όλη τη μέρα άπλωνα σ’ ένα λαό αποστάτη, που κακό δρόμο ακολουθεί και που τον σέρνουν οι επιθυμίες του· 3 σ’ ένα λαό που συνεχώς αδιάντροπα με προκαλεί, στους κήπους μέσα τις θυσίες του προσφέρει, σε κεραμίδια πάνω καίει το θυμίαμα· 4 σε ανθρώπους που στα μνήματα περνούν τη μέρα τους και διανυκτερεύουν στις σπηλιές, τρώνε το κρέας το χοιρινό και είναι μολυσμένα από τα φαγητά των θυσιών τα σκεύη τους· 5 σ’ αυτούς που λένε, "φύγε από κοντά μου, μη μ’ αγγίζεις, γιατί είμαι άγιος!"*Οι στ. 3-5 αναφέρονται στην ειδωλολατρία, στις νεκρομαντείες και στην επίκληση των πνευμάτων.

»Αυτοί μου ανάβουν το θυμό και καίει όλη τη μέρα σαν φωτιά. 6 Νάτο, το ’χω γραμμένο εδώ μπροστά μου: "δε θα σωπάσω πριν να τιμωρήσω 7 τις ανομίες τις δικές τους και των πατέρων τους μαζί. Αυτούς που πάνω στα βουνά τα είδωλα θυμιάτιζαν και στις κορυφές των λόφων με βλαστημούσαν, όπως το αξίζουν θα τους τιμωρήσω, σύμφωνα με τα έργα τους". Εγώ, ο Κύριος, το λέω».

8 Και συνεχίζει ο Κύριος: «Όταν ένα σταφύλι έχει χυμό, λένε "μην το καταστρέφεις, γιατί έχει μέσα του ευλογία". Αυτό κι εγώ θα κάνω για χάρη των δούλων μου: δε θα καταστρέψω το λαό στο σύνολό του. 9 Θα κάνω να βγουν τέκνα από τον Ιακώβ, κι απ’ τον Ιούδα απόγονοι. Θα γίνουν τα βουνά μου κτήμα των εκλεκτών μου, των δούλων μου, κι εκεί θα κατοικήσουν. 10 Τότε η Σαρών θα γίνει η μάντρα των προβάτων τους, και η κοιλάδα Αχώρ,*κοιλάδα Αχώρ. Βλ. Ιησ 7:24-26· 15:7· Ωσ 2:17. των γελαδιών βοσκή, για χάρη του λαού μου, που με ζήτησε.

11 »Εσάς όμως που με εγκαταλείψατε, που λησμονήσατε το άγιο μου βουνό, που για τον Γαδ προετοιμάζετε τραπέζι, και για να προσφέρετε σπονδές στον Μενί γεμίζετε τα κύπελα,*Γαδ...Μενί. Ειδωλολατρικές θεότητες.12 εσάς θα σας παραδώσω στη σφαγή. Όλοι σας θα εξολοθρευθείτε, γιατί σας κάλεσα και δεν αποκριθήκατε. Μιλούσα, μα εσείς δεν ακούγατε. Κάνατε ό,τι θεωρώ εγώ κακό, και προτιμούσατε αυτό που με δυσαρεστεί.

13 »Γι’ αυτό, ακούστε τι λέω εγώ ο Κύριος, ο Θεός: Οι δούλοι μου θα ’χουν να φάνε, μα εσείς θα πεινάσετε· αυτοί θα ’χουν να πιουν, μα εσείς θα υποφέρετε απ’ τη δίψα. Αυτοί θα χαίρονται, μα εσείς θα ζείτε ντροπιασμένοι. 14 Οι δούλοι μου θα ψάλλουν απ’ τη μεγάλη τους χαρά, μα εσείς απ’ τη βαθιά σας θλίψη θα φωνάζετε, και θα ουρλιάζετε απ’ την απελπισία. 15 Θα αφήσετε στους εκλεκτούς μου το όνομά σας να το ’χουνε για τις κατάρες τους: "έτσι κι εσένα να σε θανατώσει ο Κύριος ο Θεός!" Αλλά στους δούλους μου εγώ θα δώσω ένα καινούριο όνομα. 16 Κι όποιος ποθεί ευλογημένος να ’ναι σ’ αυτή τη χώρα, θα ζητά να τον ευλογήσει ο αληθινός Θεός· κι όποιος σ’ αυτή τη χώρα ορκίζεται, όρκο θα παίρνει στον αληθινό Θεό».

Λέει ο Κύριος:

«Όλες οι θλίψεις οι αλλοτινές θα ξεχαστούν

και θα εξαφανιστούνε.

17 Καινούριο θα δημιουργήσω ουρανό, καινούρια γη·

τα περασμένα, τα παλιά, θα ξεχαστούνε,

και πια κανείς δε θα τα σκέφτεται.

18 »Αλλά θα ευχαριστιούνται όλοι και θα χαίρονται

για πάντα με τα όσα δημιουργώ,

γιατί θα κάνω την Ιερουσαλήμ πόλη χαράς

κι ευτυχισμένο το λαό της.

19 Κι εγώ θα χαίρομαι για την Ιερουσαλήμ,

θ’ αγάλλομαι για το λαό μου.

»Κλάματα δεν θ’ ακούγονται πια εκεί

ούτε και θρήνοι.

20 Βρέφος δεν θα υπάρχει εκεί που να ’χει λίγο μόνο ζήσει

ούτε και γέρος που να μη συμπληρώσει μακρόχρονη ζωή.

Γιατί αυτός που θα πεθαίνει στα εκατό θα θεωρείται νέος·

και όποιος δεν θα φτάνει στα εκατό

καταραμένος θα λογαριάζεται.

21,22 »Θα οικοδομούνε σπίτια ο λαός μου

κι οι ίδιοι θα τα κατοικούν·

αυτοί, κανένας άλλος.

Αμπέλια θα φυτεύουνε

κι οι ίδιοι θα τρώνε τον καρπό·

αυτοί, κανένας άλλος.

Μες στο λαό μου η ζωή θα διαρκεί σαν αιωνόβιο δέντρο·

θ’ απολαμβάνουν οι εκλεκτοί μου

τους καρπούς των κόπων τους.

23 Δε θα κοπιάζουν μάταια πια

ούτε και θα γεννούν παιδιά,

νεκρά για να τα δούνε,

γιατί εγώ ο Κύριος θα τους ευλογήσω,

εκείνους και τους απογόνους τους.

24 Ακόμα πριν προλάβουν να μου φωνάξουν,

εγώ θα τους έχω αποκριθεί·

ακόμα πριν τελειώσουν την προσευχή τους

εγώ θα κάνω να εκπληρώνεται.

25 Ο λύκος και το αρνί μαζί θα βόσκουνε

και το λιοντάρι άχυρο θα τρώει καθώς το βόδι·

το χώμα θα ’ναι του φιδιού η τροφή.

Κανένας δεν θα προξενεί ζημιά ούτε κακό

σ’ όλο μου το βουνό το άγιο.

Εγώ, ο Κύριος, το λέω».

These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.*65.5 nose: or, anger 6 Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silence, but will recompense, even recompense into their bosom, 7 Your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith the LORD, which have burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed me upon the hills: therefore will I measure their former work into their bosom.

8 Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants’ sakes, that I may not destroy them all. 9 And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there. 10 And Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, and the valley of Achor a place for the herds to lie down in, for my people that have sought me.

11 But ye are they that forsake the LORD, that forget my holy mountain, that prepare a table for that troop, and that furnish the drink offering unto that number.*65.11 troop: or, Gad*65.11 number: or, Meni, a pagan god 12 Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not. 13 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed: 14 Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.*65.14 vexation: Heb. breaking 15 And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen: for the Lord GOD shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name: 16 That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes.

17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.*65.17 come…: Heb. come upon the heart 18 But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. 19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying. 20 There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed. 21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. 22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.*65.22 shall long…: Heb. shall make them continue long, or, shall wear out 23 They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them. 24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear. 25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.
