1 Ο Κύριος λέει στο βασιλιά Κύρο, σ’ αυτόν που έχρισε*Εδώ ο Κύρος, βασιλιάς των Περσών, λαμβάνει τον ίδιο τίτλο («κεχρισμένος») με το βασιλιά του Ιούδα (Ψλ 2:2· 18:51 κλπ.) Πρβλ. με κεφ. 44:28: «θα τον κάνω βοσκό μου». και υποστήριξε για να υποτάξει μπρος του τα έθνη και ν’ αφοπλίσει τους βασιλιάδες, ν’ ανοίξει μπρος του τα θυρόφυλλα των πόλεων, ώστε οι πύλες να μη μένουν πια κλειστές: 2 «Μπροστά σου θα βαδίσω εγώ και θα εξομαλύνω τους δρόμους τους ανώμαλους· τις χάλκινες τις θύρες θα συντρίψω, θα σπάσω τους σιδερένιους τους μοχλούς. 3 Μυστικούς θα σου δώσω θησαυρούς, κρυμμένα πλούτη, για να γνωρίσεις πως εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος, που σ’ έχω πάρει στην υπηρεσία μου, ο Θεός του Ισραήλ. 4 Για χάρη των απογόνων του δούλου μου Ιακώβ, του Ισραήλ, του εκλεκτού λαού μου, σε πήρα στην υπηρεσία μου. Και σου ’κανα αυτή την τιμή, μολονότι εσύ δεν με γνώριζες. 5 Εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος· δεν είναι άλλος κανείς εκτός από μένα, δεν υπάρχει άλλος Θεός. Θα σε εξοπλίσω, έστω κι αν δε με γνωρίζεις, 6 ώστε να μάθουν από την ανατολή ως τη δύση πως άλλος δεν υπάρχει εκτός από μένα. Εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος και δεν υπάρχει άλλος. 7 Εγώ δημιούργησα το φως και το σκοτάδι, την ευτυχία έφτιαξα και τη δυστυχία. Εγώ, ο Κύριος, είμαι που όλ’ αυτά τα πραγματοποιώ. 8 Σκορπίστε, ουρανοί, δροσιά απ’ τα ύψη, και βρέξτε, νέφη, δικαιοσύνη· η γη ας ανοίξει κι ας προβάλει η σωτηρία, μαζί ας βλαστήσει κι η δικαιοσύνη! Εγώ ο Κύριος τα δημιούργησα αυτά.

9 Αλίμονο σ’ εκείνον που το δημιουργό του μάχεται, ενώ είν’ όστρακο απ’ τον πηλό της γης. Κανένα βάζο πήλινο τον κεραμέα του δε ρωτάει, γιατί το κατασκεύασε, ούτε κανένα έργο του τον ρωτάει αν έχει χέρια επιδέξια. 10 Αλίμονο σ’ εκείνον που λέει στον πατέρα του: «Γιατί με γέννησες;» στη μάνα του, «γιατί για μένα κοιλοπόνεσες;»

11 Λέει ο Κύριος, ο Άγιος Θεός του Ισραήλ, ο δημιουργός του: «Για το λαό μου με ρωτάτε και για το τι θα κάνω μου δίνετε εντολές; 12 Εγώ έφτιαξα τη γη και δημιούργησα πάνω σ’ αυτήν τον άνθρωπο· εγώ άπλωσα με τα χέρια μου τους ουρανούς, διατάζω όλα τ’ αστέρια τους. 13 Εγώ ξεσήκωσα τον Κύρο για να επιβάλει τις εντολές μου, και θα εξομαλύνω όλους τους δρόμους του· αυτός την πόλη μου θα ανοικοδομήσει και θ’ απελευθερώσει τους αιχμαλώτους μου, χωρίς να πάρει χρήματα ούτε δώρα». Αυτά λέει ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος.

14 Λέει ο Κύριος στο λαό του: «Οι εργάτες απ’ την Αίγυπτο κι οι έμποροι απ’ την Αιθιοπία και ο λαός της Σεβά,*Σεβά. Βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 43:3. οι άντρες οι υψηλόκορμοι, θα οδηγηθούν κοντά σου και θα γίνουν δούλοι σου· θα σε ακολουθήσουν, θα περάσουν δέσμιοι από μπρος σου, θα σε προσκυνούν ομολογώντας: "μόνο μ’ εσένα είναι ο Θεός, και δεν υπάρχει άλλος Θεός εκτός από κείνον"». 15 Πράγματι, εσύ είσαι Θεός που κρύβεσαι, Θεέ του Ισραήλ, και λυτρωτή! 16 Θα ντροπιαστούν και θα ταπεινωθούν όλοι μαζί, αυτοί που φτιάχνουν τα είδωλα· θα φύγουν ντροπιασμένοι. 17 Τον Ισραήλ όμως ο Κύριος θα τον σώσει κι η σωτηρία αυτή θα είναι αιώνια! Εσείς, Ισραηλίτες, δεν πρόκειται να ντροπιαστείτε ή να ταπεινωθείτε ποτέ μες στους αιώνες.

18 Ο Κύριος είν’ ο δημιουργός του ουρανού, αυτός είν’ ο Θεός. Τη γη έφτιαξε και τη σχημάτισε, αυτός τη στέριωσε, την έπλασε όχι για να ’ναι έρημη, μα για να κατοικείται. Αυτός είναι που λέει: «Εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος και δεν υπάρχει άλλος. 19 Δε μίλησα κρυφά ούτ’ έκρυψα τη σκέψη μου· δεν είπα στους απογόνους του Ιακώβ, "ζητήστε με στο κενό". Εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος, που λέω ό,τι είναι δίκαιο και αναγγέλλω την αλήθεια».

20 «Μαζευτείτε κι ελάτε· όλοι μαζί πλησιάστε, όσοι από τα έθνη επιζήσατε. Τίποτα δε γνωρίζουν αυτοί που μεταφέρουν τα σκαλισμένα ξύλα τους και σε θεό προσεύχονται ανήμπορο να σώσει. 21 Πλησιάστε, παρουσιάστε την υπόθεσή σας, κάντε συμβούλιο ακόμα μεταξύ σας. Ποιος το ανάγγειλε αυτό απ’ τους παλιούς τους χρόνους, ποιος από τότε είχε πει πως θα συμβεί; Δεν είμ’ εγώ ο Κύριος; Άλλος Θεός εκτός από μένα δεν υπάρχει, δίκαιος Θεός και λυτρωτής, δεν υπάρχει άλλος από μένα.

22 »Στραφείτε σ’ εμένα για να σωθείτε, όλα τα πέρατα της γης, γιατί εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος, κι άλλος Θεός εκτός από μένα δεν υπάρχει. 23 Ορκίστηκα στον εαυτό μου κι αυτό που λέω, πάντα γίνεται. Ο λόγος μου δεν θ’ ανακληθεί, γιατί μπροστά μου θα καμφθούν όλα τα γόνατα· όλοι θα ομολογούν και θα λένε: 24 "μονάχα ο Κύριος είναι δυνατός και προστατεύει"».

Σ’ αυτόν θα ’ρθούνε καταντροπιασμένοι όλοι όσοι έχουν οργιστεί εναντίον του. 25 Στον Κύριο θα βρούνε σωτηρία και δόξα όλοι οι απόγονοι του Ισραήλ.

1 Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;*45.1 have…: or, strengthened 2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron: 3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel. 4 For Jacob my servant’s sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.

5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: 6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else. 7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. 8 Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it. 9 Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands? 10 Woe unto him that saith unto his father, What begettest thou? or to the woman, What hast thou brought forth?

11 Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me. 12 I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded. 13 I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my captives, not for price nor reward, saith the LORD of hosts.*45.13 direct: or, make straight 14 Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God. 15 Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour. 16 They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: they shall go to confusion together that are makers of idols. 17 But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end. 18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else. 19 I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.

20 Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save. 21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me. 22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. 23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. 24 Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.*45.24 Surely…: or, Surely he shall say of me, In the LORD is all righteousness and strength*45.24 righteousness: Heb. righteousnesses 25 In the LORD shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.
