1 Ας χαίρεται η έρημος κι ο τόπος ο ξερός.

Η χέρσα γη ας αγάλλεται κι ως κρίνο ας λουλουδίζει.

2 Άνθη ας την πλημμυρίζουνε,

φαιδρά ας πανηγυρίζει

και της χαράς ν’ ακούγεται

γιορταστικός ο αχός.

Θα της δοθεί η μεγαλοπρέπεια του Λιβάνου

του Κάρμηλου η λαμπρότητα και της Σαρών.

Τότε θα δουν τη δόξα του Κυρίου,

το μεγαλείο του δικού μας του Θεού.

3 Δύναμη δώστε στα εξαντλημένα χέρια,

τα γόνατα στεριώστε που κλονίζονται.

4 Πέστε στους φοβισμένους:

«Κάντε καρδιά και μη φοβάστε!

Να ο Θεός σας!

Η εκδίκηση κι η ανταπόδοση έρχονται απ’ αυτόν.

Αυτός θα ’ρθεί για να σας φέρει λύτρωση».

5 Τότε τα μάτια θ’ ανοιχτούνε των τυφλών

και των κουφών τ’ αυτιά θ’ ακούσουν.

6 Τότε ο χωλός καθώς το ελάφι θα πηδά

κι η γλώσσα του κωφάλαλου θα τραγουδάει.

Πλήθος νερά θε ν’ αναβρύσουνε στην έρημο

και μες στη στέπα ρεματιές θ’ αχολογούνε.

7 Η άμμος η καυτή θα γίνει λίμνη

και πίδακες νερού θα ξεπηδήσουν

απ’ τη φρυγμένη γη.

Εκεί που τα τσακάλια είχαν κρησφύγετο,

καλάμια θα φυτρώσουνε και σπάρτα.

8 Θα είν’ εκεί ένας ωραίος καλοστρωμένος δρόμος

και τ’ όνομά του θα ’ναι «Οδός Αγία».

Ακάθαρτοι από ’κει δεν θα περνούν·

αυτοί που τον βαδίζουν έστω κι αν είναι ανόητοι,

δε θα ’ναι μπορετό να ξεστρατίσουν.

9 Κοντά στο δρόμο αυτόν λιοντάρια δε θα βρίσκονται.

Δε θα τον δρασκελίζει ουτ’ ένα αρπαχτικό θεριό.

Στο δρόμο αυτόν θα περπατούν οι λυτρωμένοι.

10 Όσους ο Κύριος λευτέρωσε θα επιστρέψουν,

με θριαμβικά τραγούδια θα ’ρθουν στη Σιών.

Χαρά αιώνια θα τους πλημμυρίζει.

Θα νιώθουν ευτυχία κι αγαλλίαση.

Ο στεναγμός κι η λύπη θα χαθούν.

1 The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. 2 It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the LORD, and the excellency of our God.

5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. 6 Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert. 7 And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.*35.7 grass…: or, a court for reeds, etc 8 And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.*35.8 but…: or, for he shall be with them 9 No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there: 10 And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
