1 Ο Κύριος, ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος, θα πάρει από την Ιερουσαλήμ κι απ’ τον Ιούδα κάθε πράγμα που πάνω του στηρίζονται οι κάτοικοί τους: Θα πάρει το ψωμί και το νερό, 2 τους ήρωες και τους πολεμιστές, τους κριτές, τους προφήτες, τους μάγους και τους πρεσβυτέρους, 3 τους πεντηκόνταρχους και τους αξιωματούχους, τους συμβούλους, τους σοφούς τεχνίτες και τους επιδέξιους εξορκιστές.

4 Ο Κύριος θα βάλει άρχοντές τους ανώριμα παιδιά και θα τους κυβερνούν νήπια αστόχαστα. 5 Θα υπάρχει στο λαό αλληλοκαταπίεση: Ο ένας θα εκμεταλλεύεται τον άλλον, ο νέος θα επιτίθεται στο γέροντα και ο ασήμαντος στον αξιοσέβαστο.

6 Τότε οι άνθρωποι της ίδιας συγγένειας σ’ έναν και μόνο θα στρέφουν τις ελπίδες τους: «Εσύ έχεις ρούχο να φορέσεις», θα του λένε. «Γίνε αρχηγός μας! Και βάλε τάξη σ’ αυτό το χάος». 7 Μα εκείνος τότε θα τους απαντάει: «Δεν μπορώ θαύματα να κάνω· σπίτι μου δεν έχω ούτε τι να φάω ούτε τι να ντυθώ· για τούτο μη με κάνετε αρχηγό του λαού!»

8 Ναι, η Ιερουσαλήμ θα καταρρεύσει κι ο Ιούδας θα εξουθενωθεί, γιατί με λόγια και με έργα προσβάλλουν τον Κύριο, αντιστρατεύονται ανοιχτά τον Παντοδύναμο. 9 Η αναίδειά τους είναι ο κατήγορός τους και τις αμαρτίες τους τις διακηρύττουν όπως στα Σόδομα· δεν τις αποκρύπτουν. Αλίμονό τους, γιατί ετοιμάζουνε τη δυστυχία τους.

10 Να θυμάστε ότι ο δίκαιος θα είν’ ευτυχισμένος. Θα ζει καλά και θ’ απολαμβάνει τους κόπους του. 11 Αλίμονο όμως στον ασεβή! Θα ζει δυστυχισμένος και όσα κάνει θα στρέφονται εναντίον του.

12 «Λαέ μου», λέει ο Κύριος, «παιδιά διεστραμμένα είν’ οι ηγέτες σου και εκμεταλλευτές*εκμεταλλευτές, σύμφωνα με παλαιές μετ. Το εβραϊκό έχει: «γυναίκες». που σε απομυζούν. Οι οδηγοί σου σε παραπλανούν, τους δρομοδείχτες της πορείας σου τους μετατοπίζουν».

13 Ο Κύριος θα σηκωθεί για να δικάσει, θα σταθεί για να δικαιώσει το λαό του.*το λαό του, κατά τους Ο΄. Το εβρ. έχει «τους λαούς».14 Ο Κύριος θα ’ρθει για να δικάσει τους πρεσβυτέρους και τους άρχοντες του λαού: «Εσείς τ’ αμπέλι μου*αμπέλι μου. Στην Αγ. Γραφή το «αμπέλι» συμβολίζει το λαό του Θεού (βλ. κεφ. 5:7). ερημώσατε», θα τους πει, «κι είναι τα σπίτια σας γεμάτα με τ’ αγαθά που απ’ τους φτωχούς αρπάξατε. 15 Με ποιο δικαίωμα ποδοπατείτε το λαό μου κι εξουθενώνετε τους φτωχούς;» Αυτά λέει ο Κύριος, ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος.

16 Ο Κύριος είπε: «Κοιτάξτε τις γυναίκες της Ιερουσαλήμ, πόσο περηφανεύτηκαν! Βαδίζουν με τον τράχηλο στητό, σκορπάνε βλέμματα προκλητικά, καθώς πηγαίνουνε με βήματα μικρά και κροταλίζουν των αστραγάλων τους οι κρίκοι! 17 Μα εγώ θα τους ξυρίσω το κεφάλι και θα τις διαπομπέψω.*Το ξυρισμένο κεφάλι ήταν σημείο πένθους ή ταραχής (βλ. στ. 24, κεφ. 7:20... Ιερ 47:5· 48:37 κλπ.) Επίσης έτσι σημάδευαν τους αιχμαλώτους του πολέμου.

18 »Έρχεται μέρα, που θα τους αφαιρέσω εγώ, ο Κύριος, των αστραγάλων τα στολίδια τους, της κεφαλής τα διαδήματα και τα στολίδια του λαιμού, 19 τα σκουλαρίκια, τα βραχιόλια και τα πέπλα, 20 τους φιόγκους απ’ τα μαλλιά, των αστραγάλων τις καδένες, τις ζώνες, τις μυροθήκες και τα φυλαχτά, 21 τα δαχτυλίδια και τους κρίκους απ’ τη μύτη, 22 τις γιορτινές τις φορεσιές, τις κάπες, τα φουλάρια, τα τσαντάκια, 23 τα καθρεφτάκια και τ’ αραχνοΰφαντα λινά πουκάμισα, τους κεφαλόδεσμους και τις εσάρπες».*Η ταυτότητα των αντικειμένων αυτών είναι αβέβαιη.

24 Τότε τη θέση της ευωδίας θα την πάρει η μούχλα· τη ζώνη θα την αντικαταστήσει ένα σκοινί, τις μπούκλες το φαλακρό κεφάλι· αντί για γιορτινές φορεσιές, πένθιμα ρούχα χοντροϋφασμένα θα φορούν· σημάδι θα ’χουν από πυρωμένο σίδερο στης ομορφιάς τη θέση.

25 Οι άντρες σου, Ιερουσαλήμ, θα πέσουν απ’ το ξίφος· οι πιο καλοί πολεμιστές σου στη μάχη θα χαθούν. 26 Θρήνοι και στεναγμοί θα ηχούν στις πύλες σου κι εσύ θα κάθεσαι στα χώματα σαν μια γυναίκα εξαθλιωμένη.

9 The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves. 10 Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. 11 Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.*3.11 given…: Heb. done to him

12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.*3.12 lead…: or, call thee blessed*3.12 destroy: Heb. swallow up 13 The LORD standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the people. 14 The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.*3.14 eaten: or, burnt 15 What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
