1 Εξαγγελία για την Τύρο.

Θρηνήστε εσείς, τεράστια πλοία, το λιμάνι σας καταστράφηκε! Το μάθανε καθώς γυρίζαν από τη χώρα των Κιτιαίων (Κύπρος). 2 Από τη φρίκη βουβαθείτε, των παραλίων κάτοικοι, εσείς έμποροι της Σιδώνας, που οι αντιπρόσωποί σας σχίζουν τη θάλασσα, 3 και μεταφέρουν του Σιχώρ*Σιχώρ. Άλλο όνομα για το Νείλο ποταμό. τα σιτηρά. Του Νείλου η συγκομιδή ήτανε της Σιδώνας το εισόδημα, κι έτσι η πόλη έγινε εμπορικό κέντρο των εθνών.

4 Σιδώνα, τι ντροπή για σένα, οχυρό της θάλασσας! Η θάλασσα λέει: «Είναι σαν να μην κοιλοπόνεσα ποτέ, ούτε να γέννησα, είναι σα να μη μεγάλωσα παιδιά*Ως παιδιά (της θάλασσας) νοούνται οι ναυτικοί.».

5 Ακόμα κι οι Αιγύπτιοι όταν μάθουν τα νέα για την Τύρο, θα λυπηθούν.

6 Φύγετε ως τη Θαρσείς· θρηνήστε, εσείς οι κάτοικοι των παραλίων! 7 Αυτή είναι η πολιτεία σας η χαρούμενη, με την αρχαία προέλευση; η πολιτεία που ίδρυσε αποικίες σε μέρη μακρινά; 8 Ποιος αποφάσισε της Τύρου την καταστροφή, εκείνης που μοίραζε στέμματα, που οι μικρέμποροί της ήταν ηγεμόνες, κι ήταν οι έμποροί της οι ένδοξοι της γης; 9 Ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος το αποφάσισε, για να ντροπιάσει κάθε περηφάνια, για να εξευτελίσει το μεγαλείο όλων των ξακουστών της γης.

10 Καλλιέργησε τώρα τη γη σου, λαέ της Θαρσείς, όπως κάνουν στο Νείλο, γιατί πλοία δε φτιάχνουν πια στης Τύρου το λιμάνι. 11 Ο Κύριος άπλωσε το χέρι του πάνω στη θάλασσα, συγκλόνισε βασίλεια. Πρόσταξε την καταστροφή των οχυρών της Χαναάν. 12 «Δε θα χαρείτε άλλο, κάτοικοι εσείς της Σιδώνας», είπε. «Είστε σαν την παρθένα που την έχουν βιάσει! Σηκωθείτε και πηγαίνετε στο νησί της Κύπρου· μα ούτε κι εκεί θα βρείτε ησυχία! 13 Κοιτάξτε τη Βαβυλώνα. Ο λαός αυτός δεν υπάρχει πια· οι Ασσύριοι ύψωσαν πύργους πολιορκητικούς, κατέστρεψαν τα ανάκτορά τους και τ’ άφησαν ερείπια· κι εγκαταλείψανε τη γη στα θεριά της ερήμου.*Η ερμηνεία του στ. στα εβρ. είναι αβέβαιη.

14 Θρηνήστε εσείς, τεράστια πλοία, το λιμάνι σας καταστράφηκε!

15 Θα έρθει μέρα που η Τύρος θα λησμονηθεί για εβδομήντα χρόνια, όσο κρατάει η ζωή ενός βασιλιά. Ύστερα απ’ τα εβδομήντα χρόνια, θα γίνει και στην Τύρο αυτό που λέει το τραγούδι για την πόρνη:

16 «Πάρ’ την κιθάρα, γύρνα μες στην πόλη,

λησμονημένη πόρνη!

Παίξε ωραία, ξαναπές

πάλι και πάλι τα τραγούδια σου,

για να σε θυμηθούν!»

17 Κι όταν περάσουν τα εβδομήντα χρόνια, ο ίδιος ο Κύριος θα ενδιαφερθεί για την Τύρο και θα ξαναγυρίσει αυτή στο παλιό της επάγγελμα: θα πορνεύεται με όλα τα βασίλεια του κόσμου πάνω στη γη. 18 Αλλά το κέρδος της κι ο πορνικός μισθός της θα γίνει αφιέρωμα στον Κύριο· δε θα συγκεντρωθεί ούτε θ’ αποταμιευτεί. Τα κέρδη της θα πάνε σ’ εκείνους που υπηρετούν τον Κύριο, για να έχουν άφθονη τροφή κι όμορφα ρούχα.

17 And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth. 18 And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the LORD, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing.*23.18 durable: Heb. old
