1 Μήνυμα που ο Ησαΐας, γιος του Αμώς, έλαβε μέσα από όραμα για τον Ιούδα και την Ιερουσαλήμ:

2 Θα ’ρθούνε μέρες που το όρος του ναού θα κυριαρχεί πάνω στα βουνά, ψηλότερο απ’ όλα τ’ άλλα. Εκεί θα συρρέουν οι λαοί. 3 Εκεί θα τρέχουν έθνη πολλά. «Εμπρός», θα λένε, «ας ανεβούμε στο όρος του Κυρίου, στον οίκο του Θεού του Ιακώβ, το δρόμο του να μας διδάξει για να τον ακολουθούμε».

Γιατί απ’ τη Σιών βγαίνει ο νόμος, από την Ιερουσαλήμ προέρχεται ο λόγος του Κυρίου. 4 Αυτός θα κρίνει ανάμεσα σε πολλούς λαούς· το δίκιο θ’ αποδώσει σε έθνη δυνατά. Τότε τα ξίφη τους θα τα σφυρηλατήσουν σε άροτρα και τις λόγχες τους σε δρεπάνια. Ξίφος δεν θα σηκώνει το ένα έθνος ενάντια στο άλλο και πια δεν θα μαθαίνουν να πολεμούν.

5 Εμπρός, απόγονοι του Ιακώβ, ας περπατήσουμε στο φως του Κυρίου!

6 Ναι, Κύριε, εγκατέλειψες το λαό σου, τους απογόνους του Ιακώβ, γιατί η χώρα είναι γεμάτη έθιμα της ανατολής. Παντού υπάρχουν μάντεις όπως στους Φιλισταίους· ο λαός σου δημιουργεί σχέσεις με τους αλλοφύλους. 7 Η χώρα γέμισε ασήμι και χρυσάφι και θησαυρούς αμέτρητους. Γέμισε άλογα η χώρα κι αμέτρητα είναι τα πολεμικά τους άρματα. 8 Η χώρα γέμισε είδωλα· στα έργα τους τα χειροποίητα μπροστά τους γονατίζουν. 9 Γι’ αυτό όλοι τους θα εξευτελιστούν, και οι επιφανείς θα ταπεινωθούν· μην τους το συγχωρήσεις, Κύριε.

10 Καλυφθείτε στους βράχους, κρυφτείτε στο χώμα, όταν ο Κύριος σκορπάει το φόβο του, όταν δείχνει τη δύναμη και τη μεγαλοπρέπειά του. 11 Έρχεται μέρα που η υπεροψία των ανθρώπων θα ταπεινωθεί και η αλαζονεία τους θα σπάσει· και μόνον ο Κύριος τότε θα εξυψωθεί. 12 Πράγματι, ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος έχει ορίσει ημέρα ενάντια σ’ όλους τους υπερήφανους, τους αλαζόνες και τους υπερόπτες για να τους ταπεινώσει: 13 Ενάντια σ’ όλους τους κέδρους του Λιβάνου, τους ψηλούς και περήφανους, κι ενάντια σ’ όλες τις βαλανιδιές της Βασάν· 14 ενάντια σ’ όλα τα ψηλά βουνά κι ενάντια σ’ όλους τους λόφους τους ψηλούς· 15 ενάντια σ’ όλους τους πύργους τους ψηλούς κι ενάντια σ’ όλα τα οχυρωμένα τείχη· 16 ενάντια σ’ όλα τα πλοία τα μεγάλα κι ενάντια σ’ όλα τα πολυτελή πλεούμενα. 17 Η υπεροψία των ανθρώπων θα ταπεινωθεί και η αλαζονεία τους θα λυγίσει. Μονάχα ο Κύριος θα εξυψωθεί τη μέρα εκείνη. 18 Όλα τα είδωλα θα εξαφανιστούν.

19 Θα μπείτε στις σπηλιές των βράχων και στις τρύπες της γης, όταν ο Κύριος θα σκορπάει το φόβο του, όταν θα δείχνει τη δύναμη και τη μεγαλοπρέπειά του, όταν θα σηκωθεί να συγκλονίσει τη γη. 20 Έρχεται μέρα, που οι άνθρωποι θα ρίξουν στις νυχτερίδες και στους τυφλοπόντικες τα ασημένια και τα χρυσά είδωλά τους, που κατασκεύασαν για να τα προσκυνούν, 21 και θα τρυπώσουν στις σχισμές των βράχων και στις σπηλιές, όταν ο Κύριος θα σκορπάει το φόβο του, όταν θα δείχνει τη δύναμη και τη μεγαλοπρέπειά του, όταν θα σηκωθεί να συγκλονίσει τη γη.

22 Πάψτε, λοιπόν, να ’χετε την ελπίδα σας σε ανθρώπους, γιατί η ζωή τους δεν είναι παρά μονάχα μια πνοή· τι αξία έχουν;

10 Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty. 11 The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. 12 For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low: 13 And upon all the cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up, and upon all the oaks of Bashan, 14 And upon all the high mountains, and upon all the hills that are lifted up, 15 And upon every high tower, and upon every fenced wall, 16 And upon all the ships of Tarshish, and upon all pleasant pictures.*2.16 pleasant…: Heb. pictures of desire 17 And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. 18 And the idols he shall utterly abolish.*2.18 he…: or, shall utterly pass away 19 And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.*2.19 of the earth: Heb. of the dust 20 In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;*2.20 his idols of silver…: Heb. the idols of his silver, etc*2.20 each…: or, for him 21 To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth. 22 Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?
