1 Τότε ένας βασιλιάς θα βασιλέψει με δικαιοσύνη και οι άρχοντές του θα κυβερνούν μ’ ευθύτητα. 2 Καθένας τους θα είναι σκεπή προστατευτική από τον άνεμο, σαν καταφύγιο στην καταιγίδα, σαν ρυάκια σε ξερότοπο, σαν σκιά μεγάλου βράχου σε διψασμένη γη. 3 Τότε τα μάτια των Βλεπόντων δε θα ’ναι πια κλειστά και τ’ αυτιά των προφητών θα ’ναι ορθάνοιχτα. 4 Η καρδιά των αστόχαστων σοφία θα γνωρίσει κι όσοι μπερδεύουν σκόπιμα τα λόγια τους θα μιλούν καθαρά. 5 Δε θα ονομάζουν πια ευγενή τον ανόητο, ούτε αξιοσέβαστο τον απατεώνα.

6 Ο ανόητος λέει μόνο ανοησίες και σκέφτεται αδιάκοπα το πώς θα κάνει το κακό. Και με τα έργα του αλλά και με τα λόγια του τον Κύριο προσβάλλει. Αφήνει νηστικό τον πεινασμένο, στον διψασμένο δεν δίνει νερό. 7 Τα όπλα του πανούργου είναι δολερά· επινοεί σχέδια πονηρά, για να λυγίσει τον φτωχό με λόγια ψεύτικα, ακόμα κι όταν ο αδύνατος διεκδικεί το δίκιο του. 8 Αλλά ο έντιμος επινοεί σχέδια ευγενικά και επιμένει στα ευγενικά του έργα.

9 Ανέμελες γυναίκες, κόρες αμέριμνες, τα λόγια μου ακούστε! 10 Μέσα σε ένα χρόνο και λίγες μέρες θα συνταραχθείτε, εσείς οι αμέριμνες· γιατί ο τρύγος θ’ αφανιστεί, η συγκομιδή δε θα ’ρθει. 11 Τρέμετε ανέγνοιαστες! Αμέριμνες τρομάξτε! Βγάλτε τις φορεσιές σας και πένθιμα φορέστε ρούχα. 12 Σπαρακτικά θρηνήστε για τους όμορφους αγρούς και για τα καρποφόρα αμπέλια, 13 για τη γη του λαού μου που γέμισε αγκάθια και τριβόλια, για τα σπίτια που ευτυχούσαν στην πόλη τη χαρούμενη. 14 Και το παλάτι ακόμα θα εγκαταλειφθεί, κι η πόλη θα ερημωθεί η πολυθόρυβη· το τείχος και ο πύργος της θα γίνουνε σπηλιές για πάντα, τόπος χαράς για τα άγρια γαϊδούρια, βοσκή για τα κοπάδια.

15 Όταν όμως θα έρθει πάνω μας το Πνεύμα του Θεού από τους ουρανούς, η έρημος θα γίνει καρποφόρος κήπος κι ο καρποφόρος κήπος θα μεταβληθεί σε δάσος. 16 Τότε θα επικρατήσει στην έρημο το δίκαιο και η δικαιοσύνη στους καρποφόρους κήπους. 17 Το έργο της δικαιοσύνης θα ’ναι ειρήνη, και της δικαιοσύνης το αποτέλεσμα θα ’ναι ησυχία και ασφάλεια παντοτινή. 18 Θα κατοικήσει ο λαός μου σε τόπο ειρήνης, σε κατοικίες ασφαλείς και μέρη ήσυχα, δίχως άγχος. 19 Κι αν πέσει χαλάζι, δεν θα τους βλάψει· όσοι στο δάσος κατοικούν, σ’ εμένα θα ελπίζουν, όπως κι οι κάτοικοι της πεδιάδας.*Κι αν πέσει... πεδιάδας, κατά τους Ο΄. Το εβρ. είναι ασαφές.20 Καλότυχοι εσείς που σπέρνετε παντού πλάι σε νερά κι αφήνετε να τριγυρνούν ελεύθερα τα βόδια και τα γαϊδουράκια.
