1 Ao mestre de canto. De Davi, servo do Senhor, que dirigiu as palavras deste cântico ao Senhor, no dia em que ficou livre de todos os seus inimigos e das mãos de Saul. Disse: Eu vos amo, Senhor, minha força!2 O Senhor é o meu rochedo, minha fortaleza e meu libertador. Meu Deus é a minha rocha, onde encontro o meu refúgio, meu escudo, força de minha salvação e minha cidadela.3 Invoco o Senhor, digno de todo louvor, e fico livre dos meus inimigos.4 Circundavam-me os vagalhões da morte, torrentes devastadoras me atemorizavam,5 enlaçavam-se as cadeias da habitação dos mortos, a própria morte me prendia em suas redes.6 Na minha angústia, invoquei o Senhor, gritei para meu Deus: do seu templo ele ouviu a minha voz, e o meu clamor em sua presença chegou aos seus ouvidos.7 A terra vacilou e tremeu, os fundamentos das montanhas fremiram, abalaram-se, porque Deus se abrasou em cólera:8 suas narinas exalavam fumaça; sua boca, fogo devorador, brasas incandescentes.9 Ele inclinou os céus e desceu, calcando aos pés escuras nuvens.10 Cavalgou sobre um querubim e voou, planando nas asas do vento.11 Envolveu-se nas trevas como se fossem véu, fez para si uma tenda das águas tenebrosas, densas nuvens.12 Do esplendor de sua presença suas nuvens avançaram: saraiva e centelhas de fogo.13 Dos céus trovejou o Senhor, o Altíssimo fez ressoar a sua voz.14 Lançou setas e dispersou os inimigos, fulminou relâmpagos e os desbaratou.15 E apareceu descoberto o leito do mar, ficaram à vista os fundamentos da terra, ante a vossa ameaçadora voz, ó Senhor, ante o furacão de vossa cólera.16 Do alto estendeu a sua mão e me pegou, e retirou-me das águas profundas,17 livrou-me de inimigo poderoso, dos meus adversários mais fortes do que eu.18 Investiram contra mim no dia do meu infortúnio, mas o Senhor foi o meu arrimo;19 pôs-me a salvo e livrou-me, porque me ama.20 O Senhor me tratou segundo a minha inocência, retribuiu-me segundo a pureza de minhas mãos,21 porque guardei os caminhos do Senhor e não pequei separando-me do meu Deus.22 Tenho diante dos olhos todos os seus preceitos e não me desvio de suas leis.23 Ando irrepreensivelmente diante dele, guardando-me do meu pecado.24 O Senhor retribuiu-me segundo a minha justiça, segundo a pureza de minhas mãos diante dos seus olhos.25 Com quem é bondoso vos mostrais bondoso, com o homem íntegro vos mostrais íntegro;26 puro com quem é puro; prudente com quem é astuto.27 Os humildes salvais, os semblantes soberbos humilhais.28 Senhor, sois vós que fazeis brilhar o meu farol, sois vós que dissipais as minhas trevas.29 Convosco afrontarei batalhões, com meu Deus escalarei muralhas.30 Os caminhos de Deus são perfeitos, a palavra do Senhor é pura. Ele é o escudo de todos os que nele se refugiam.31 Pois quem é Deus senão o Senhor? Quem é o rochedo, senão o nosso Deus?32 É Deus quem me cinge de coragem e aplana o meu caminho.33 Torna os meus pés velozes como os das gazelas e me instala nas alturas.34 Adestra minhas mãos para o combate e meus braços para o tiro de arco.35 Vós me dais o escudo que me salva. Vossa destra me sustém, e vossa bondade me engrandece.36 Alargais o caminho a meus passos, para meus pés não resvalarem.37 Dou caça aos inimigos e os alcanço, e não volto sem que os tenha aniquilado.38 De tal sorte os despedaço, que não mais poderão levantar-se: eles ficam caídos a meus pés.39 Vós me cingis de coragem para a luta e ante mim dobrais os meus adversários.40 Afugentais da minha presença os meus inimigos e reduzis ao silêncio os que me aborrecem.41 Gritam por socorro, mas não há quem os salve; clamam ao Senhor, mas não responde...42 Eu os disperso como o pó que o vento leva, e os esmago como o barro das estradas.43 Vós me livrais das revoltas do povo e me colocais à frente das nações; povos que eu desconhecia se tornaram meus servos.44 Gente estranha me serve abnegadamente e me obedece à primeira intimação.45 Gente estranha desfalece e sai tremendo de seus esconderijos.46 Viva o Senhor e bendito seja o meu rochedo! Exaltado seja Deus, que me salva!47 Deus, que me proporciona a vingança e avassala nações a meus pés.48 Sois vós que me libertais dos meus inimigos, me exaltais acima dos meus adversários e me salvais do homem violento.49 Por isso vos louvarei, ó Senhor, entre as nações e celebrarei o vosso nome.50 Ele prepara grandes vitórias a seu rei e faz misericórdia a seu ungido, a Davi e a sua descendência para sempre.

1 To the chief musician, by the servant of the Lord, by David, who spoke unto the Lord the words of this song on the day that the Lord had delivered him out of the power of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul; (18:2) And he said, I ever love thee, O Lord, my strength.2 (18:3) The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I trust; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.3 (18:4) Praised, I cried, be the Lord, and from my enemies was I saved.4 (18:5) The bonds of death encompassed me, and the floods of destruction made me afraid.5 (18:6) The bonds of hell encircled me: the snares of death seized on me.6 (18:7)When in my distress I called upon the Lord, and unto my God I cried: he heard from his temple my voice, and my complaint came before him, even into his ears.7 (18:8) Then shook and trembled the earth; and the foundations of the mountains were moved; and they were shaken, because he was wroth.8 (18:9) Smoke went up in his anger and consuming fire out of his mouth: coals flamed forth from him.9 (18:10) And he bent the heavens, and came down: and thick darkness was under his feet:10 (18:11) And he rode upon a cherub, and flew along, and he flitted by upon the wings of the wind.11 (18:12) He made darkness his hiding–place, round about him as his pavilion, dark waters, thick clouds of the skies.12 (18:13) From the brightness before him his thick clouds passed away, with hail–stones and coals of fire.13 (18:14) And the Lord thundered in the heavens, and the Most High uttered forth his voice, with hail–stones and coals of fire.14 (18:15) And he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot forth lightnings, and discomfited them.15 (18:16) And then were seen the channels of the waters, and there were laid open the foundations of the world, through thy rebuke, O Lord, through the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.16 (18:17) He stretched out from above his hand, he took me; he drew me out from mighty waters.17 (18:18) He delivered me from my enemy, the strong, and from those that hated me, when they were too mighty for me.18 (18:19) They overcame me on the day of my calamity; but the Lord became my stay.19 (18:20) And he brought me forth into a large space; he delivered me, because he had delight in me.20 (18:21) The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the purity of my hands did he recompense me.21 (18:22) For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.22 (18:23) For all his ordinances were before me, and his statutes had I not put away from me.23 (18:24) I was also upright with him, and I guarded myself against my iniquity.24 (18:25) Therefore did the Lord recompense me according to my righteousness, according to the purity of my hands before his eyes.25 (18:26) With the kind thou wilt show thyself kind; with the upright man thou wilt show thyself upright;26 (18:27) With the pure thou wilt show thyself pure; and with the perverse thou wilt wage a contest.27 (18:28) For thou wilt indeed save the afflicted people; but haughty eyes wilt thou bring down.28 (18:29) For thou wilt cause my light to shine: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.29 (18:30) For aided by thee I run through a troop; and helped by my God I leap over a wall.30 (18:31) As for God,––his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a shield to all those that trust in him.31 (18:32) For who is God save the Lord? or who is a rock beside our God?32 (18:33) He is the God that girdeth me with strength, and rendereth my way unobstructed.33 (18:34) He maketh my feet like those of the hinds, and upon my high–places he causeth me to stand.34 (18:35) He teacheth my hands for the war, so that a brazen bow is bent by my arms.35 (18:36) And thou gavest me the shield of thy salvation, and thy right hand supported me: and thy meekness hath made me great.36 (18:37) Thou enlargest my steps under me, so that my joints do not slip.37 (18:38) I pursue my enemies, and overtake them; and I return not again till I have made an end of them.38 (18:39) I crush them that they are not able to rise: they fall under my feet.39 (18:40) For thou hast girded me with strength for the war: thou subduest my opponents under me.40 (18:41) And my enemies thou causest to turn their back to me; and those that hate me,––that I may destroy them.41 (18:42) They cry, but there is none to help; unto the Lord,––but he answereth them not.42 (18:43) And I beat them small as the dust before the wind: like the dirt in the streets do I cast them out.43 (18:44) Thou deliverest me from the contests of the people; thou appointest me to be the head of nations: a people that I know not shall serve me.44 (18:45) As soon as their ear heareth they shall be obedient to me: the children of the stranger shall utter flattery unto me.45 (18:46) The children of the stranger shall fade away, and come forth trembling out of their close places.46 (18:47) The Lord liveth, and blessed be my Rock; and exalted be the God of my salvation;47 (18:48) The God that granteth me vengeance, and subdueth nations under me;48 (18:49) That delivereth me from my enemies: also above my opponents thou liftest me up; thou deliverest me from the man of violence.49 (18:50) Therefore will I give thanks unto thee among the nations, O Lord, and unto thy name will I sing praises,––50 (18:51)To him that maketh great the salvation of his king, and who sheweth kindness to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for ever.
