E permaneceis longe de minhas súplicas e de meus gemidos?2 Meu Deus, clamo de dia e não me respondeis; imploro de noite e não me atendeis.3 Entretanto, vós habitais em vosso santuário, vós que sois a glória de Israel.4 Nossos pais puseram sua confiança em vós, esperaram em vós e os livrastes.5 A vós clamaram e foram salvos; confiaram em vós e não foram confundidos.6 Eu, porém, sou um verme, não sou homem, o opróbrio de todos e a abjeção da plebe.7 Todos os que me vêem zombam de mim; dizem, meneando a cabeça:8 Esperou no Senhor, pois que ele o livre, que o salve, se o ama.9 Sim, fostes vós que me tirastes das entranhas de minha mãe e, seguro, me fizestes repousar em seu seio.10 Eu vos fui entregue desde o meu nascer, desde o ventre de minha mãe vós sois o meu Deus.11 Não fiqueis longe de mim, pois estou atribulado; vinde para perto de mim, porque não há quem me ajude.12 Cercam-me touros numerosos, rodeiam-me touros de Basã;13 contra mim eles abrem suas fauces, como o leão que ruge e arrebata.14 Derramo-me como água, todos os meus ossos se desconjuntam; meu coração tornou-se como cera, e derrete-se nas minhas entranhas.15 Minha garganta está seca qual barro cozido, pega-se no paladar a minha língua: vós me reduzistes ao pó da morte.16 Sim, rodeia-me uma malta de cães, cerca-me um bando de malfeitores. Traspassaram minhas mãos e meus pés:17 poderia contar todos os meus ossos. Eles me olham e me observam com alegria,18 repartem entre si as minhas vestes, e lançam sorte sobre a minha túnica.19 Porém, vós, Senhor, não vos afasteis de mim; ó meu auxílio, bem depressa me ajudai.20 Livrai da espada a minha alma, e das garras dos cães a minha vida.21 Salvai-me a mim, mísero, das fauces do leão e dos chifres dos búfalos.22 Então, anunciarei vosso nome a meus irmãos, e vos louvarei no meio da assembléia.23 Vós que temeis o Senhor, louvai-o; vós todos, descendentes de Jacó, aclamai-o; temei-o, todos vós, estirpe de Israel,24 porque ele não rejeitou nem desprezou a miséria do infeliz, nem dele desviou a sua face, mas o ouviu, quando lhe suplicava.25 De vós procede o meu louvor na grande assembléia, cumprirei meus votos na presença dos que vos temem.26 Os pobres comerão e serão saciados; louvarão o Senhor aqueles que o procuram: Vivam para sempre os nossos corações.27 Hão de se lembrar do Senhor e a ele se converter todos os povos da terra; e diante dele se prostrarão todas as famílias das nações,28 porque a realeza pertence ao Senhor, e ele impera sobre as nações.29 Todos os que dormem no seio da terra o adorarão; diante dele se prostrarão os que retornam ao pó.30 Para ele viverá a minha alma, há de servi-lo minha descendência. Ela falará do Senhor às gerações futuras31 e proclamará sua justiça ao povo que vai nascer: Eis o que fez o Senhor.

(22:2) My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from saving me, and from the words of my loud complaint?2 (22:3) O my God! I call in the day–time, but thou answerest not; and in the night I find no rest.3 (22:4) But thou art holy, O thou that dwellest amidst the praises of Israel.4 (22:5) In thee did our fathers trust: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.5 (22:6) Unto thee they cried, and were delivered: in thee they trusted, and were not put to shame.6 (22:7) But I am a worm, and not a man, a reproach of men, and despised of people.7 (22:8) All those who see me laugh me to scorn: they draw open their lips, they shake their head, saying,8 (22:9) "Let him throw himself on the Lord, that he may deliver him: he will save him, for he delighteth in him."9 (22:10) Yea, thou art he that took me from the womb: thou hast been my trust when I hung on my mother’s breasts.10 (22:11) Upon thee was I cast from my birth: from my mother’s womb art thou my God.11 (22:12) Oh be not far from me now; for distress is near; for there is none to help.12 (22:13) Many steers have encompassed me: the strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.13 (22:14) They have opened wide against me their mouth, as a ravenous and roaring lion.14 (22:15) Like water am I poured out, and all my bones are disjointed: my heart is become like wax, it is melted in the midst of my entrails.15 (22:16) Like a potsherd is my strength dried up; and my tongue cleaveth to my palate; and into the dust of death hast thou laid me down.16 (22:17) For dogs have encompassed me; the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me: like lions they threaten my hands and my feet.17 (22:18) I may number all my bones: while they stare and look upon me.18 (22:19) They divide my clothes among themselves, and for my garment do they cast lots.19 (22:20) But thou, O Lord, be not far from me: O thou who art my strength, hasten to my aid.20 (22:21) Deliver from the sword my life, from the power of the dog my solitary soul.21 (22:22) Save me from the lion’s mouth; as thou hast answered me from the horns of the reem.22 (22:23) I will relate thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.23 (22:24) Ye that fear the Lord, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and be in dread of him, all ye the seed of Israel.24 (22:25) For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the poor; neither hath he hidden his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.25 (22:26) Of thee shall be my praise in a great assembly: my vows will I pay in the presence of those who fear him.26 (22:27) The meek shall eat and be satisfied; they who seek him shall praise the Lord: may your heart live for ever.27 (22:28) All the ends of the world shall remember and return unto the Lord: and all the families of the nations shall bow themselves down before thee.28 (22:29) For the kingdom is the Lord’s, and he governeth the nations.29 (22:30) All they that eat the fat of the earth shall bow themselves down; before him shall bend the knee all that are going down into the dust; for none can keep alive his own soul.30 (22:31) Distant ages shall serve him; there shall be related of the Lord unto future generations.31 (22:32) They will come, and will tell his righteousness unto a people yet unborn, that he hath done this.
