1 Cântico. Salmo de Asaf Senhor, não fiqueis silencioso, não permaneçais surdo, nem insensível, ó Deus.2 Porque eis que se tumultuam vossos inimigos, levantam a cabeça aqueles que vos odeiam.3 Urdem tramas para o vosso povo, conspiram contra vossos protegidos.4 Vinde, dizem eles, exterminemo-lo dentre os povos, desapareça a própria lembrança do nome de Israel.5 Com efeito, eles conspiram de comum acordo e contra vós fazem coalizão:6 os nômades de Edom e os ismaelitas, Moab e os agarenos,7 Gebal, Amon e Amalec, a Filistéia com as gentes de Tiro.8 Também os assírios a eles se uniram, e aos filhos de Lot ofereceram a sua força.9 Tratai-os como Madiã e Sísara, e Jabin junto à torrente de Cison!10 Eles pereceram todos em Endor e serviram de adubo para a terra.11 Tratai seus chefes como Oreb e Zeb; como Zebéia e Sálmana, seus príncipes,12 que disseram: Tomemos posse das terras onde Deus reside.13 Ó meu Deus, fazei deles como folhas que o turbilhão revolve, como a palha carregada pelo vento,14 Como o fogo que devora a mata, como a labareda que incendeia os montes;15 Persegui-os com a vossa tempestade, apavorai-os com o vosso furacão.16 Cobri-lhes a face da ignomínia, para que, vencidos, busquem, Senhor, o vosso nome.17 Enchei-os de vergonha e de humilhação eternas, que eles pereçam confundidos.18 E que reconheçam que só vós, cujo nome é Senhor, sois o Altíssimo sobre toda a terra.

1 A song or psalm of Assaph.(83:2) O God, take no rest for thyself: be not silent and keep not still, O God!2 (83:3) For, lo, thy enemies make a tumult, and they that hate thee have lifted up their head.3 (83:4) Against thy people they take crafty secret device, and they consult against those whom thou protectest.4 (83:5) They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; and the name of Israel shall be remembered no more.5 (83:6) For they have consulted cordially together; against thee they make a covenant:6 (83:7) The tents of Edom, and the Ishmaelites: Moab, and the Hagarenes;7 (83:8) Gebal, and ‘Ammon, and ‘Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;8 (83:9) Also Asshur is joined with them; they have become an arm unto the children of Lot. Selah.9 (83:10) Do unto them as unto Midian; as to Sissera, as to Jabin, at the brook Kishon:10 (83:11) Who were annihilated at ‘En–dor; they became as dung for the ground.11 (83:12) Render them, their nobles, like ‘Oreb, and like Zeeb; yea, like Zebach and like Zalmunna’ all their princes;12 (83:13) Who said, Let us conquer for ourselves the dwellings of God,13 (83:14) O my God, render them like the thistle–down, like stubble before the wind.14 (83:15) As the fire burneth up a forest, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire:15 (83:16) So pursue them with thy storm, and with thy whirlwind do thou terrify them.16 (83:17) Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek thy name, O Lord!17 (83:18) Let them be made ashamed and terrified for ever and aye; yea, let them be put to the blush and perish:18 (83:19) That they may know that thou, whose name is the Eternal, art by thyself alone, the Most High over all the earth.
