1 Para o mestre de canto. Não destruas. Cântico de Davi, quando Saul mandou cercar-lhe a casa para o matar. Livrai-me, ó meu Deus, dos meus inimigos, defendei-me dos meus adversários.2 Livrai-me dos que praticam o mal, salvai-me dos homens sanguinários.3 Vede: armam ciladas para me tirar a vida, homens poderosos conspiram contra mim.4 Senhor, não há em mim crime nem pecado. Sem que eu tenha culpa, eles acorrem e atacam. Despertai-vos, vinde para mim e vede,5 porque vós, Senhor dos exércitos, sois o Deus de Israel. Erguei-vos para castigar esses pagãos, não tenhais misericórdia desses pérfidos.6 Eles voltam todas as noites, latindo como cães, e percorrem a cidade toda.7 Eis que se jactam à boca cheia, tendo nos lábios só injúrias, e dizem: Pois quem é que nos ouve?8 Mas vós, Senhor, vos rides deles, zombais de todos os pagãos.9 Ó vós que sois a minha força, é para vós que eu me volto. Porque vós, ó Deus, sois a minha defesa.10 Ó meu Deus, vós sois todo bondade para mim. Venha Deus em meu auxílio, faça-me deleitar pela perda de meus inimigos.11 Destruí-os, ó meu Deus, para que não percam o meu povo; conturbai-os, abatei-os com vosso poder, ó Deus, nosso escudo.12 Cada palavra de seus lábios é um pecado. Que eles, surpreendidos em sua arrogância, sejam as vítimas de suas próprias calúnias e maldições.13 Destruí-os em vossa cólera, destruí-os para que não subsistam, para que se saiba que Deus reina em Jacó e até os confins da terra.14 Todas as noites eles voltam, latindo como cães, rondando pela cidade toda.15 Vagueiam em busca de alimento; não se fartando, eles se põem a uivar.16 Eu, porém, cantarei vosso poder, e desde o amanhecer celebrarei vossa bondade. Porque vós sois o meu amparo, um refúgio no dia da tribulação.17 Ó vós, que sois a minha força, a vós, meu Deus, cantarei salmos porque sois minha defesa. Ó meu Deus, vós sois todo bondade para mim.

(59:2) Deliver me from my enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me.2 (59:3) Deliver me from the workers of wickedness, and from men of blood do thou save me.3 (59:4) For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul, the mighty are gathered in troops against me: not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O Lord.4 (59:5) Without guilt in me they run and make themselves ready: awake, come toward me, and behold.5 (59:6) And thou, O Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to punish all the nations: be not gracious to any treacherous wicked one. Selah.6 (59:7) They will return at evening; they will howl like dogs, and go round about the city.7 (59:8) Behold, they sputter with their mouth: swords are in their lips; for who, say they, doth hear?8 (59:9) But thou, O Lord, wilt laugh at theme: thou wilt hold in derision all the nations.9 (59:10) Because of the enemy’s strength will I wait upon thee; for God is my defence.10 (59:11) The God who showeth me kindness will go before me: God will let me see my desire upon those who regard me with envy.11 (59:12) Slay them not, that my people may not forget: drive them about by thy power; and bring them down, thou our shield, O Lord.12 (59:13) The sin of their mouth is the word of their lips: let them be caught through their pride, because of the cursing and lying which they relate.13 (59:14) Make an end in fury, make an end of them, that they my be no more, and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob, as far as the ends of the earth. Selah.14 (59:15) And they will return in the evening; they will howl like dogs, and go round about the city.15 (59:16) They will indeed roam about after something to eat, if they be not satisfied, so that they can be at rest.16 (59:17) But I will truly sing of thy strength; yea, I will sing joyfully in the morning of thy kindness; for thou hast been a defence unto me and a refuge on the day when I was distressed.17 (59:18) Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing; for God is my defence, the God of my kindness.
