1 [An instruction. Of Ethan the Ezrahite.] I will sing of the loving-kindness of Jehovah for ever; with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness from generation to generation.

2 For I said, Loving-kindness shall be built up for ever; in the very heavens wilt thou establish thy faithfulness.

3 I have made a covenant with mine elect, I have sworn unto David my servant:

4 Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne from generation to generation. Selah.

5 And the heavens shall celebrate thy wonders, O Jehovah, and thy faithfulness in the congregation of the saints.

6 For who in the heaven can be compared to Jehovah? {who} among the sons of the mighty shall be likened to Jehovah?

7 *God is greatly to be feared in the council of the saints, and terrible for all that are round about him.

8 Jehovah, God of hosts, who is like unto thee, the strong Jah? And thy faithfulness is round about thee.

9 *Thou* rulest the pride of the sea: when its waves arise, *thou* stillest them.

10 Thou hast crushed Rahab as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with the arm of thy strength.

11 Thine are the heavens, the earth also is thine; the world and its fulness, *thou* hast founded them.

12 The north and the south, *thou* hast created them: Tabor and Hermon triumph in thy name.

13 Thine is the arm of might: strong is thy hand, high is thy right hand.

14 Righteousness and judgment are the foundation of thy throne; loving-kindness and truth go before thy face.

15 Blessed is the people that know the shout of joy: they walk, O Jehovah, in the light of thy countenance.

16 In thy name are they joyful all the day, and in thy righteousness are they exalted.

17 For thou art the glory of their strength; and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.

18 For Jehovah is our shield, and the Holy One of Israel, our king.

19 Then thou spakest in vision of thy Holy One, and saidst, I have laid help upon a mighty one; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.

20 I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:

21 With whom my hand shall be established; and mine arm shall strengthen him.

22 No enemy shall exact upon him, nor the son of wickedness afflict him;

23 But I will beat down his adversaries before his face, and will smite them that hate him.

24 And my faithfulness and my loving-kindness shall be with him, and by my name shall his horn be exalted.

25 And I will set his hand in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.

26 *He* shall call unto me, Thou art my father, my *God, and the rock of my salvation;

27 And as to me, I will make him firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.

28 My loving-kindness will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him;

29 And I will establish his seed for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.

30 If his sons forsake my law, and walk not in mine ordinances;

31 If they profane my statutes, and keep not my commandments:

32 Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.

33 Nevertheless my loving-kindness will I not utterly take from him, nor belie my faithfulness;

34 My covenant will I not profane, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.

35 Once have I sworn by my holiness; I will not lie unto David:

36 His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me;

37 It shall be established for ever as the moon, and the witness in the sky is firm. Selah.

38 But thou hast rejected and cast off; thou hast been very wroth with thine anointed:

39 Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant; thou hast profaned his crown to the ground:

40 Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strongholds to ruin.

41 All that pass by the way plunder him; he is become a reproach to his neighbours.

42 Thou hast exalted the right hand of his oppressors; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice:

43 Yea, thou hast turned back the edge of his sword, and hast not made him stand in the battle.

44 Thou hast made his brightness to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground;

45 The days of his youth hast thou shortened; thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.

46 How long, Jehovah, wilt thou hide thyself for ever? shall thy fury burn like fire?

47 Remember, as regards me, what life is. Wherefore hast thou created all the children of men to be vanity?

48 What man liveth, and shall not see death? Shall he deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah.

49 Where, Lord, are thy former loving-kindnesses, {which} thou swarest unto David in thy faithfulness?

50 Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants-that I bear in my bosom {that of} all the mighty peoples-

51 Wherewith thine enemies, O Jehovah, have reproached, wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.

52 Blessed be Jehovah for evermore! Amen, and Amen.

2 Car j'ai dit : ta bonté continue à toujours, [comme] les cieux, tu as établi en eux ta fidélité [quand tu as dit] :

3 J'ai traité alliance avec mon élu, j'ai fait serment à David mon serviteur, [en disant] :

4 J'établirai ta race à toujours, et j'affermirai ton trône d'âge en âge; Sélah.

5 Et les cieux célèbrent tes merveilles, ô Eternel! ta fidélité aussi [est] célébrée dans l'assemblée des Saints.

6 Car qui est-ce au-dessus des nues qui soit égal à l'Eternel? Qui est semblable à l'Eternel entre les fils des forts?

7 Le [Dieu] Fort se rend extrêmement terrible dans le Conseil secret des Saints, il est plus redouté que tous ceux qui sont à l'entour de lui.

8 Ô Eternel Dieu des armées, qui est semblable à toi, puissant Eternel? aussi ta fidélité est à l'entour de toi.

9 Tu as puissance sur l'élévation des flots de la mer; quand ses vagues s'élèvent, tu les fais rabaisser.

10 Tu as abattu Rahab comme un homme blessé à mort; tu as dissipé tes ennemis par le bras de ta force.

11 A toi sont les cieux, à toi aussi est la terre; tu as fondé la terre habitable, et tout ce qui est en elle.

12 Tu as créé l'Aquilon et le Midi; Tabor et Hermon se réjouissent en ton Nom.

13 Tu as un bras puissant, ta main est forte, et ta droite est haut élevée.

14 La justice et l'équité sont la base de ton trône; la gratuité et la vérité marchent devant ta face.

15 Ô que bienheureux est le peuple qui sait ce que c'est que du cri de réjouissance! Ils marcheront, ô Eternel! à la clarté de ta face.

16 Ils s'égayeront tout le jour en ton Nom, et ils se glorifieront de ta justice.

17 Parce que tu es la gloire de leur force; et notre pouvoir est distingué par ta faveur.

18 Car notre bouclier est l'Eternel, et notre Roi est le Saint d'Israël.

19 Tu as autrefois parlé en vision touchant ton bien-aimé, et tu as dit : J'ai ordonné mon secours en faveur d'un homme vaillant; j'ai élevé l'élu d'entre le peuple.

20 J'ai trouvé David mon serviteur, je l'ai oint de ma sainte huile;

21 Ma main sera ferme avec lui, et mon bras le renforcera.

22 L'ennemi ne le rançonnera point, et l'inique ne l'affligera point;

23 Mais je froisserai devant lui ses adversaires, et je détruirai ceux qui le haïssent.

24 Ma fidélité et ma bonté seront avec lui; et sa gloire sera élevée en mon Nom.

25 Et je mettrai sa main sur la mer, et sa droite sur les fleuves.

26 Il m'invoquera, [disant :] Tu es mon Père; mon [Dieu] Fort, et le Rocher de ma délivrance.

27 Aussi je l'établirai l'aîné [et] le souverain sur les Rois de la terre.

28 Je lui garderai ma bonté à toujours, et mon alliance lui sera assurée.

29 Je rendrai éternelle sa postérité, et je ferai que son trône sera comme les jours des cieux.

30 Mais si ses enfants abandonnent ma Loi, et ne marchent point selon mes ordonnances;

31 S'ils violent mes statuts, et qu'ils ne gardent point mes commandements;

32 Je visiterai de verge leur transgression, et de plaie leur iniquité.

33 Mais je ne retirerai point de lui ma bonté, et je ne lui fausserai point ma foi.

34 Je ne violerai point mon alliance, et je ne changerai point ce qui est sorti de mes lèvres.

35 J'ai une fois juré par ma sainteté; (si je mens jamais à David; )

36 Que sa race sera à toujours, et que son trône sera comme le soleil, en ma présence :

37 Qu'il sera affermi à toujours comme la lune; et il y en aura dans les cieux un témoin certain; Sélah.

38 Néanmoins tu l'as rejeté, et l'as dédaigné; tu t'es mis en grande colère contre ton Oint.

39 Tu as rejeté l'alliance faite avec ton serviteur; tu as souillé sa couronne, [en la jetant] par terre.

40 Tu as rompu toutes ses cloisons; tu as mis en ruine ses forteresses.

41 Tous ceux qui passaient par le chemin l'ont pillé; il a été mis en opprobre à ses voisins.

42 Tu as élevé la droite de ses adversaires, tu as réjoui tous ses ennemis.

43 Tu as aussi émoussé la pointe de son épée, et tu ne l'as point redressé en la bataille.

44 Tu as fait cesser sa splendeur, et tu as jeté par terre son trône.

45 Tu as abrégé les jours de sa jeunesse, [et] l'as couvert de honte; Sélah.

46 Jusques à quand, ô Eternel? te cacheras-tu à jamais? ta fureur s'embrasera-t-elle comme un feu?

47 Souviens-toi de combien petite durée je suis; pourquoi aurais-tu créé en vain tous les fils des hommes?

48 Qui est l'homme qui vivra, et ne verra point la mort, et qui garantira son âme de la main du sépulcre? (Sélah.)

49 Seigneur, où sont tes bontés précédentes lesquelles tu as jurées à David sur ta fidélité?

50 Seigneur! souviens-toi de l'opprobre de tes serviteurs, [et comment] je porte dans mon sein [l'opprobre qui nous a été fait] par tous les grands peuples,

51 [L'opprobre] dont tes ennemis ont diffamé, ô Eternel! dont ils ont diffamé les traces de ton Oint.

52 Béni soit à toujours l'Eternel; Amen! Oui, Amen!
