1 O *God of vengeances, Jehovah, *God of vengeances, shine forth;
2 Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth, render the reward to the proud.
3 How long shall the wicked, O Jehovah, how long shall the wicked triumph?
4 {How long} shall they utter {and} speak insolence-all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?
5 They crush thy people, O Jehovah, and afflict thine inheritance;
6 They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless,
7 And say, Jah will not see, neither will the God of Jacob regard {it}.
8 Understand, ye brutish among the people; and ye fools, when will ye be wise?
9 He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? He that formed the eye, shall he not see?
10 He that instructeth the nations, shall not he correct-he that teacheth man knowledge?
11 Jehovah knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.
12 Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Jah, and whom thou teachest out of thy law;
13 That thou mayest give him rest from the days of evil, until the pit be digged for the wicked.
14 For Jehovah will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance;
15 For judgment shall return unto righteousness, and all the upright in heart shall follow it.
16 Who will rise up for me against the evil-doers? who will stand for me against the workers of iniquity?
17 If Jehovah had not been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.
18 When I said, My foot slippeth, thy loving-kindness, O Jehovah, held me up.
19 In the multitude of my anxious thoughts within me thy comforts have delighted my soul.
20 Shall the throne of wickedness be united to thee, which frameth mischief into a law?
21 They band together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn innocent blood.
22 But Jehovah will be my high tower; and my God the rock of my refuge.
23 And he will bring upon them their iniquity, and will cut them off in their own evil: Jehovah our God will cut them off.
1 Ô Éternel! qui es le [Dieu] Fort des vengeances, le [Dieu] Fort des vengeances, fais reluire ta splendeur.
2 Toi, Juge de la terre, élève-toi : rends la récompense aux orgueilleux.
3 Jusques à quand les méchants, ô Eternel! jusques à quand les méchants s'égayeront-ils?
4 [Jusques à quand] tous les ouvriers d'iniquité proféreront-ils et diront-ils des paroles rudes, et se vanteront-ils?
5 Eternel, ils froissent ton peuple, et affligent ton héritage.
6 Ils tuent la veuve et l'étranger, et ils mettent à mort les orphelins.
7 Et ils ont dit : L'Eternel ne le verra point; le Dieu de Jacob n'en entendra rien.
8 Vous les plus abrutis d'entre le peuple, prenez garde à ceci; et vous insensés, quand serez-vous intelligents?
9 Celui qui a planté l'oreille, n'entendra-t-il point? celui qui a formé l'œil, ne verra-t-il point?
10 Celui qui châtie les nations, celui qui enseigne la science aux hommes, ne censurera-t-il point?
11 L'Eternel connaît que les pensées des hommes ne sont que vanité.
12 Ô que bienheureux est l'homme que tu châties, ô Eternel! et que tu instruis par ta Loi;
13 Afin que tu le mettes à couvert des jours d'adversité, jusqu’à ce que la fosse soit creusée au méchant!
14 Car l'Eternel ne délaissera point son peuple, et n'abandonnera point son héritage.
15 C'est pourquoi le jugement s'unira à la justice, et tous ceux qui sont droits de cœur le suivront.
16 Qui est-ce qui se lèvera pour moi contre les méchants? Qui est-ce qui m'assistera contre les ouvriers d'iniquité?
17 Si l'Eternel ne m'eût été en secours, mon âme eût été dans peu logée dans le [lieu du] silence.
18 Si j'ai dit : Mon pied a glissé; ta bonté, ô Eternel! m'a soutenu.
19 Quand j'avais beaucoup de pensées au-dedans de moi, tes consolations ont récréé mon âme.
20 Le tribunal des méchants qui machine du mal contre les règles de la justice, sera-t-il joint à toi?
21 Ils s'attroupent contre l'âme du juste, et condamnent le sang innocent.
22 Or l'Eternel m'a été pour une haute retraite; et mon Dieu, pour le rocher de mon refuge.
23 Il fera retourner sur eux leur outrage, et, les détruira par leur propre malice. L'Eternel notre Dieu les détruira.
