1 The fool has said in his heart: »There is no God Jehovah*.« They are corrupt and have done abominable detestable iniquity. There are none who do good. *Possible deliberate scribal change from YHWH to Elohim2 God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any who understand and seek God.3 Every one of them has gone back: they are totally corrupted filthy. None do good, no, not one.4 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? They eat up my people as they eat bread. They have not called upon God.5 There they were in great fear, where no fear was: for God has scattered the bones of him that encamps against you. You have put them to shame, because God has despised them.6 Oh that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When Jehovah brings his people back from captivity, Jacob and Israel will rejoice and be glad.

1 Diz o néscio no seu coração: Não há Deus. Corromperam-se e cometeram abominável iniqüidade; não há quem faça o bem.2 Deus olha lá dos céus para os filhos dos homens, para ver se há algum que tenha entendimento, que busque a Deus.3 Desviaram-se todos, e juntamente se fizeram imundos; não há quem faça o bem, não há sequer um.4 Acaso não têm conhecimento os que praticam a iniqüidade, os quais comem o meu povo como se comessem pão, e não invocam a Deus?5 Eis que eles se acham em grande pavor onde não há motivo de pavor, porque Deus espalhará os ossos daqueles que se acampam contra ti; tu os confundirás, porque Deus os rejeitou.6 Oxalá que de Sião viesse a salvação de Israel! Quando Deus fizer voltar os cativos do seu povo, então se regozijará Jacó e se alegrará Israel.
