1 O Deus poderoso, o Senhor, convocou toda a humanidade, desde o Oriente até ao Ocidente!2 A luz gloriosa de Deus brilha desde o seu belo templo no Monte Sião.3 Ele vem com o estrondo do trovão, rodeado de um fogo destruidor. Uma grande tempestade ruge ao seu redor.4 Pois veio julgar o seu povo. Então clama ao céu e à Terra:5 Que o meu povo se junte, todos os que, por meio de um sacrifício, fizeram comigo uma aliança.6 Deus os julgará como perfeito juiz que é. Os céus inteiros são testemunha da sua justiça.7 Escuta-me, meu povo! Pois sou o teu Deus! Ouve-me! Estas são as coisas que tenho contra ti:8 Não tenho nada a dizer a respeito dos sacrifícios que me trazem sobre o altar, pois isso fazem vocês com regularidade.9 Mas não são sacrifícios de animais o que eu realmente quero da vossa parte.10 Porque afinal meu é todo o animal, tanto dos campos como das florestas.11 Pertence-me todo o gado que pasta nas montanhas. Conheço bem, porque são minhas, as aves todas que voam sobre a terra.12 Se eu tivesse fome não to diria? O mundo pertence-me, e tudo o que nele existe.13 Não, eu não preciso dos sacrifícios de carne e de sangue de animais que vocês me oferecem.14 O que eu pretendo de vocês é uma verdadeira gratidão, e que cumpram as vossas promessas.15 Confiem em mim nas horas de aflição, e eu vos livrarei e vocês me honrarão e me louvarão.16 Porém, aos homens sem Deus, diz o Senhor: Que tens tu que recitar as minhas leis e que fazer apelo às minhas promessas, ao meu pacto com o meu povo?17 Pois vocês recusam a minha disciplina, desrespeitam as minhas leis.18 Quando vêem um ladrão, protegem-no e ajudam-no. Gastam o vosso tempo com gente má e sem moral.19 Quando falam é só para praguejar e mentir, numa linguagem imprópria.20 Falam mal de toda a gente, até do próprio irmão.21 Tudo isso fazem e eu tenho-me calado. Pensam que eu não me importo com essas coisas. Mas agora chegou o tempo de vos castigar, de vos pôr diante dos olhos tudo aquilo de que vos acuso.22 Ouçam então, vocês que se esquecem de Deus, e antes que vos destrua inteiramente sem que ninguém vos possa ajudar.23 Aquele que louva com verdade, com sinceridade, faz um valioso sacrifício. Os que ordenam as suas vidas rectamente no meu caminho receberão a salvação do Senhor.

1 A Psalm of Asaph. The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising to the setting of the sun.2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous around him.4 He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.5 Gather my saints together to me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.6 And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.7 Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God.8 I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt-offerings, to have been continually before me.9 I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he-goats out of thy folds.10 For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.11 I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fullness thereof.13 Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?14 Offer to God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows to the Most High:15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.16 But to the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?17 Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.18 When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.19 Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.20 Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thy own mother's son.21 These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.22 Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.23 Whoever offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his deportment aright will I show the salvation of God.
