3 Felizes aqueles que cumprem com o que é recto, que praticam o que é justo, em todas as circunstâncias.4 Lembra-te de mim, também, Senhor, quando abençoares e salvares o teu povo.5 Para que participe na prosperidade daqueles que tu escolheste, para que me alegre com eles, e que compartilhe da honra que lhes deste.7 Os nossos antecessores não souberam dar o devido valor a todas as maravilhas que fizeste no Egipto, e bem depressa se esqueceram de toda a misericórdia que tiveste para com eles. Pelo contrário, foram rebeldes contra ti mesmo ali, à beira do Mar Vermelho.8 Contudo, mesmo assim os salvaste, para que se mantivesse a honra do teu nome, e para que o teu poder fosse conhecido em todo o mundo.9 Ordenaste ao Mar Vermelho que se dividisse, formando um caminho pelo qual passassem a seco; é verdade, um caminho enxuto e tão seco como o próprio deserto!10 E foi dessa maneira que os salvaste daqueles que os odiavam.11 E quando as águas do mar voltaram à sua normalidade cobriram os seus adversários que tinham tentado persegui-los pelo mesmo caminho. Mas nem um só dentre eles sobreviveu!12 Aí, sim, creram na palavra de Deus! Cantaram-lhe louvores!13 Mas cedo se esqueceram de novo de tudo isso. E não foram capazes de esperar que lhes fosse dando o que precisavam segundo o conhecimento que tinhas das suas necessidades.14 Antes se deixaram levar pela gula, ali no deserto, provocando a paciência de Deus.15 Mas o Senhor atendeu às suas exigências, mas permitiu que as suas vidas fossem castigadas com uma grande epidemia.16 Depois, tiveram inveja de Moisés; sim, e até de Arão, o homem que Deus tinha eleito como seu sacerdote.17 Por causa disso também, a terra se abriu e enguliu Datã, Abirão e os seus amigos, cabecilhas dessa revolta.18 E veio um fogo que consumiu toda aquela gente perversa.23 Por isso o Senhor decidiu que os destruiria; mas Moisés, o homem da sua confiança, pôs-se entre o povo e o seu Deus, implorando-lhe que voltasse atrás na sua decisão, e não os destruísse.24 Não contentes com isto, quando chegou a altura de tomarem posse da terra prometida, recusaram lá entrar, e não acreditaram nas promessas que lhe fizera.25 Pelo contrário resmungaram, recusando-se dar ouvidos à voz de Deus.26 Por isso o Senhor afirmou que deixaria de estar a favor deles e os deixaria morrer no deserto,27 e que faria dispensar os seus descendentes por todas as nações da Terra.28 A certa altura uniram-se aos adoradores do deus Baal, em Peor, e comeram sacrifícios consagrados aos mortos.29 Isto levou o Senhor a irar-se grandemente com eles, e uma peste rebentou no meio deles -30 até que Finéias executou aqueles cujos pecados foram os causadores da praga - e esta acabou.31 (Por este feito, Finéias há-de ser lembrado para sempre.)32 Também em Meribá Israel irritou o seu Deus, causando a Moisés sérios problemas;33 este excedeu-se, e falou impensadamente.34 Além disso os israelitas não destruíram, como Deus lhes tinha mandado que fizessem, aqueles povos maus que moravam na terra prometida;39 As suas maldades os corromperam, e toda aquela idolatria foi uma coisa perversa aos olhos de Deus!40 Foi por essa razão que a sua ira se levantou contra aquele povo que era seu, e detestou-os.41 Entregou-os às mãos de outras nações pagãs que os oprimiram e se tornaram senhores deles.42 Foram governados por gente que lhes queria mal e que os humilhou!43 Muitas vezes os livrou dessa escravidão, mas eles continuavam sempre rebeldes contra o seu Deus, e foram abatidos pelos seus próprios pecados!44 Mas mesmo assim ouviu-lhes os gritos de aflição, prestou atenção ao seu desespero.45 Lembrou-se das promessas que lhes tinha feito, e o grande amor que lhes tinha levou-o a ter pena deles.46 Por isso fez que os seus próprios inimigos, que os tinham derrotado e aprisionado, tivessem compaixão deles.47 Senhor nosso Deus, salva-nos! Torna a tirar-nos do meio das nações, para que possamos louvar em liberdade a força do teu nome, e honrarmo-nos com esse mesmo louvor!48 Que o Senhor, o Deus de Israel, seja louvado por toda a eternidade. Que todos os povos da Terra apoiem e digam o mesmo! Amém. Louvem o Senhor!

1 Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks to the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.2 Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can show forth all his praise?3 Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times.4 Remember me, O LORD, with the favor that thou bearest to thy people: O visit me with thy salvation;5 That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thy inheritance.6 We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.7 Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea.8 Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.9 He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.10 And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.11 And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.12 Then they believed his words; they sang his praise.13 They soon forgot his works; they waited not for his counsel:14 But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.15 And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.16 They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the LORD.17 The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram.18 And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.19 They made a calf in Horeb, and worshiped the molten image.20 Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.21 They forgot God their savior, who had done great things in Egypt;22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea.23 Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.24 Yes, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:25 But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not to the voice of the LORD.26 Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:27 To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands.28 They joined themselves also to Baal-peor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead.29 Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague broke in upon them.30 Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed.31 And that was counted to him for righteousness to all generations for ever.32 They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes:33 Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spoke unadvisedly with his lips.34 They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them:35 But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.36 And they served their idols: which were a snare to them.37 Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons,38 And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.39 Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went astray with their own inventions.40 Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance.41 And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them.42 Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.43 Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel; and were brought low for their iniquity.44 Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry:45 And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.46 He made them also to be pitied by all those that carried them captives.47 Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks to thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise.48 Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen.
