Hade inte Herren varit med oss

– så ska Israel säga –

2 hade inte Herren varit med oss

när människor reste sig mot oss,

3 *Ps 94:17, Ords 1:12. då hade de slukat oss levande

i sin brinnande vrede mot oss.

4 Då hade vattnen dränkt oss,

strömmen översköljt oss,

5 *Job 38:11, Ps 69:16. då hade de vilda vattenmassorna

översköljt oss.

6 Lovad är Herren

som inte lät oss bli rov

för deras käftar!

7 Vår själ kom undan

som fågeln ur jägarnas snara,

snaran brast och vi kom undan.

8 *Ps 121:2, 146:5f. Vår hjälp är i Herrens namn,

han som har gjort

himmel och jord.

1 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say;

2 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us:

3 Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:

4 Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:

5 Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.

6 Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.

7 Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.

8 Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
