2 Hör detta, alla folk!

Lyssna, alla som lever i världen,

3 både låg och hög,

rik som fattig.

4 Min mun ska tala vishet,

mitt hjärtas tanke

ska vara förstånd.

5 *Ps 78:2. Jag vänder mitt öra till visdomsord,

jag tyder min gåta

till harpans toner.

6 Varför vara rädd

under olyckans dagar

när mina förföljares*49:6förföljaresAnnan översättning: "bedragares". ondska

omger mig?

7 De litar till sina ägodelar

och stoltserar

med sin stora rikedom.

8 Men ingen kan köpa sin broder fri

eller ge Gud lösepenning

för honom.

9 Hans själs lösen är dyr,

den kan inte betalas till evig tid

10 så att han får leva för alltid

och aldrig se förgängelsen.

att både dårar och oförnuftiga

går under

och lämnar sin rikedom åt andra.

12 De tror att deras hus

deras boningar

från släkte till släkte.

De uppkallar sina marker

efter sina namn.

hon liknar djuren som förgås.

14 Så går det dem

och deras efterföljare

15 Som får drivs de ner i dödsriket,

De rättfärdiga ska råda över dem

när morgonen gryr.

Deras gestalt tynar bort i dödsriket,

de får ingen upphöjd boning.

16 *1 Mos 5:24, Ps 16:10, 48:15, 73:24, Hos 13:14. Men Gud ska friköpa min själ

från dödsrikets våld,

han ska ta emot mig. Sela

17 Bli inte imponerad när någon blir rik,

när hans hus växer i härlighet,

18 *Ps 39:7, Job 27:16f, Luk 12:13f, 1 Tim 6:7. för han får inget med sig i döden,

hans härlighet följer inte

med honom ner.

19 Även om han skattar sig lycklig

under livet

och får beröm när han gör det gott

för sig själv,

20 så går hans själ till sina fäder,

till dem som aldrig mer ser ljuset.

21 En människa som i all sin härlighet

inte har förstånd,

hon liknar djuren som förgås.

3 My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.

4 I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

6 They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:

8 (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)

9 That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.

10 For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.

12 Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
