lägga fram gåtor från gången tid.

3 *Ps 44:2. Vad vi har hört och lärt känna,

vad våra fäder berättat för oss

4 vill vi inte dölja för deras barn.

För det kommande släktet

förkunnar vi Herrens lov,

hans makt och de under han gjort.

5 *2 Mos 20:1f, 5 Mos 4:9f, 6:6f, Hes 20:10f. Han upprättade

ett vittnesbörd i Jakob,

han gav sin undervisning i Israel

och befallde våra fäder

att lära ut den till sina barn,

6 så att den blev känd

för det kommande släktet,

de barn som skulle födas.

De i sin tur skulle

berätta för sina barn,

7 så att de sätter sitt hopp till Gud

och inte glömmer Guds gärningar

utan följer hans bud.

8 *2 Mos 32:9, 33:3f, 34:9, 2 Krön 30:7, Ps 78:37, 95:7f, Hes 20:18. De ska inte bli som sina fäder,

ett trotsigt och upproriskt släkte

med opålitligt hjärta

och en ande trolös mot Gud.

9 Efraims söner,

beväpnade bågskyttar,

vände på stridens dag.

utan vägrade följa hans lag,

11 de glömde hans gärningar

och undren han visat dem.

och lät dem dricka

som ur väldiga hav,

16 han lät bäckar rinna fram

ur klippan

och vatten skölja ner

som strömmar.

17 Men de fortsatte att synda

mot honom,

de gjorde uppror

mot den Högste i öknen.

18 *2 Mos 16:2f, 4 Mos 11:4f, Ps 106:14f, 1 Kor 10:9. De frestade Gud i sina hjärtan

genom att kräva mat efter sitt begär.

19 De talade mot Gud, de sade:

"Kan Gud duka ett bord i öknen?

20 Visst slog han klippan

så att vattnet flödade

och bäckar strömmade fram,

men kan han också ge bröd

eller skaffa kött åt sitt folk?"

21 *4 Mos 11:1f. När Herren hörde det

blev han vred.

Eld blossade upp mot Jakob,

vrede vällde fram mot Israel,

22 för de trodde inte på Gud

och litade inte på hans frälsning.

23 Ändå gav han befallning

åt skyarna i höjden

och öppnade himlens portar.

24 *2 Mos 16:4f, 4 Mos 11:7, Joh 6:31, 1 Kor 10:3. Han lät manna regna över dem

till mat

och gav dem säd från himlen.

25 Människor fick äta änglars bröd,

han sände dem mat

så att de blev mätta.

och styrde sunnanvinden dit

med sin makt.

27 Han lät kött regna över dem

som stoft,

bevingade fåglar som havets sand.

29 De åt och blev övermätta,

han lät dem få vad de haft begär till.

Han dödade bland de starkaste

och trodde inte på hans under.

frågade de efter honom,

de vände om och sökte Gud.

att Gud den Högste

är deras befriare.

de ljög för honom med sin tunga.

de var inte trogna

mot hans förbund.

från fienden,

43 då han gjorde sina tecken i Egypten

och sina under på Soans mark.

till blod

så att de inte kunde dricka

ur bäckarna.

2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

3 Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

4 We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

5 For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:

6 That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:

7 That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

8 And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.*78.8 that…: Heb. that prepared not their heart

60 So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;

61 And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy’s hand.

62 He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.

65 Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.

68 But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.
