1 Não fosse o Senhor, que esteve ao nosso lado,

Israel que o diga;

2 não fosse o Senhor, que esteve ao nosso lado,

quando os homens se levantaram contra nós,

3 e nos teriam engolido vivos,

quando a sua ira se acendeu contra nós;

4 as águas nos teriam submergido,

e sobre a nossa alma teria passado a torrente;

5 águas impetuosas teriam passado

sobre a nossa alma.

6 Bendito o Senhor, que não nos deu

por presa aos dentes deles.

7 Salvou-se a nossa alma,

como um pássaro do laço dos passarinheiros;

quebrou-se o laço,

e nós nos vimos livres.

8 O nosso socorro está em o nome do Senhor,

criador do céu e da terra.

Let Israel now say,

2 If it had not been Jehovah who was on our side,

When men rose up against us;

3 Then they had swallowed us up alive,

When their wrath was kindled against us:

4 Then the waters had overwhelmed us,

The stream had gone over our soul;

5 Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.

6 Blessed be Jehovah,

Who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.

7 Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers:

The snare is broken, and we are escaped.

8 Our help is in the name of Jehovah,

Who made heaven and earth.

1 If the LORD had not been on our side — let Israel say —

2 if the LORD had not been on our side when people attacked us,

3 they would have swallowed us alive when their anger flared against us;

4 the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us,

5 the raging waters would have swept us away.

6 Praise be to the LORD, who has not let us be torn by their teeth.

7 We have escaped like a bird from the fowler's snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped.

8 Our help is in the name of the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
