3 Elas serão ditas com sabedoria, e serão o fruto de uma meditação feita com inteligência.
4 Direi, em cânticos, a solução de um problema profundo da vida:
5 Não devo ter medo, quando chegam os dias de aflição, mesmo quando rodeado da maldade dos que me querem mal!
6 Aqueles que confiam nas suas riquezas e se gabam de tudo quanto possuem, nenhum deles, de modo algum, pode resgatar o seu próximo do castigo do pecado.
8 Uma alma é algo de valor tão elevado que as fortunas da Terra inteira, juntas,
9 não seriam suficientes para comprar a vida eterna e para livrar da morte.
10 Tanto os sábios como os ricos, os poderosos e orgulhosos, terão de morrer, como toda a gente. E as suas riquezas serão para os outros.
11 Dão às propriedades que possuem, os seus próprios nomes, porque pensam lá para si mesmos, que serão deles e dos seus descendentes para sempre, e que nunca deixarão de morar nelas.
12 Mas essas pessoas, apesar de toda a sua vaidade, terão de morrer, como qualquer ser vivente!
13 Tal é o destino dos que confiam em si mesmos, e dos que confiam nas suas próprias palavras.
14 A morte leva a humanidade toda como um grande rebanho, do qual se alimenta. E depois, ao romper do dia, os rectos os dominarão; pois que a beleza deles acabará quando morrerem, visto que não a podem levar consigo.
15 Mas quanto a mim Deus salvará a minha alma do poder da morte, e me receberá.
16 Portanto, não desanimes quando homens sem Deus enriquecem e alcançam grande prosperidade.
17 Porque quando morrem não levam nada consigo, e o seu bem-estar não os acompanhará.
18 Ainda que em toda a sua vida se tenham tido por felizes, e os outros os aplaudam por todo o bem que souberem fazer-se a si mesmos,
19 contudo terão o fim que teve toda a gente antes deles: a escuridão eterna.
20 Porque o ser humano, mesmo com toda a sua prosperidade, terá de morrer como qualquer ser vivente.

5 Wherefore should I fear in the days of calamity, Though the iniquity of them who lie in wait for me should enclose me?
6 As for them who are trusting in their wealth,And, in the abundance of their riches, do boast themselves,
7 A brother, can none of them, redeem, he cannot give unto God a ransom for himself:
8 So costly, is the redemption of their soul, That it faileth unto times age-abiding;
9 That he should, yet, live on, continually, Should not see corruption.
10 For it is seen that, the wise, die, Together with the dullard, and the brutish, do they perish, And leave, to others, their wealth:
11 Their, inward thought, is that their houses are for times age-biding, Their habitations, for generation after generation,They give their own names unto lands!
12 But, a son of earth, though wealthy, cannot tarry, He hath made himself a by-wordBeasts, they resemble:
13 This, their way, is a folly to them, And yet, their followers, with their mouth, approve. Selah.
14 Like sheepinto hades, are they driven, Death shall shepherd them,And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning, Even their form, is to decay, Hades, is all that remaineth of a habitation for him.
15 But, God, will redeem my soul, out of the hand of hades, For he will take me. Selah.
16 Do not fear, When a man becometh rich, When the glory of his house increaseth;
17 For, when he dieth, he shall take, nothing, his glory shall not descend after him;
18 For, though, his own selfwhile he lived, he used to bless, And they will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself,
19 He shall enter as far as the circle of his fathers, Nevermore, shall they see the light.
20 A son of earth though wealthy, who discerneth not, Hath made himself a by-word, Beasts, they resemble.
