Salmos 73

A Psalm by Asaph.

1 Surely God*73:1 The Hebrew word rendered "God" is "אֱלֹהִ֑ים" (Elohim). is good to Israel,

to those who are pure in heart.

2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone.

My steps had nearly slipped.

3 For I was envious of the arrogant,

when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

4 For there are no struggles in their death,

but their strength is firm.

5 They are free from burdens of men,

neither are they plagued like other men.

6 Therefore pride is like a chain around their neck.

Violence covers them like a garment.

7 Their eyes bulge with fat.

Their minds pass the limits of conceit.

8 They scoff and speak with malice.

In arrogance, they threaten oppression.

9 They have set their mouth in the heavens.

Their tongue walks through the earth.

10 Therefore their people return to them,

and they drink up waters of abundance.

11 They say, "How does God know?

Is there knowledge in the Most High?"

12 Behold, these are the wicked.

Being always at ease, they increase in riches.

13 Surely I have cleansed my heart in vain,

and washed my hands in innocence,

14 For all day long I have been plagued,

and punished every morning.

15 If I had said, "I will speak thus",

behold, I would have betrayed the generation of your children.

16 When I tried to understand this,

it was too painful for me—

17 until I entered God’s sanctuary,

and considered their latter end.

18 Surely you set them in slippery places.

You throw them down to destruction.

19 How they are suddenly destroyed!

They are completely swept away with terrors.

20 As a dream when one wakes up,

so, Lord,*73:20 The word translated "Lord" is "Adonai." when you awake, you will despise their fantasies.

21 For my soul was grieved.

I was embittered in my heart.

22 I was so senseless and ignorant.

I was a brute beast before you.

23 Nevertheless, I am continually with you.

You have held my right hand.

24 You will guide me with your counsel,

and afterward receive me to glory.

25 Whom do I have in heaven?

There is no one on earth whom I desire besides you.

26 My flesh and my heart fails,

but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

27 For, behold, those who are far from you shall perish.

You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to you.

28 But it is good for me to come close to God.

I have made the Lord Yahweh*73:28 "Yahweh" is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered "LORD" (all caps) in other translations. my refuge,

that I may tell of all your works.

5 Kāhore ngā mea whakapōuri tāngata e pā ki a rātou;

kāhore anō rātou e whiua tahitia me te mano tāngata.

6 Nā reira, ānō he hei te whakakake e awhi nei i a rātou,

ānō he kākahu te tutū e hīpokina nei rātou.

7 Pupuhi ana ō rātou kanohi i te ngako;

nui ake ngā mea i a rātou i a ō rātou ngākau i hiahia ai.

8 E whakahī ana rātou, e kōrero kino ana mō te whakatoi;

kei runga noa ake ā rātou kōrero.

9 Tutuki tonu tō rātou māngai ki ngā rangi;

e kōpikopiko ana hoki tō rātou arero i runga i te whenua.

10 Koia tōna iwi i hoki mai ai ki konei;

ā, e whakawiria ana he wai mō rātou, kī tonu te kapu.

11 E mea ana rātou, "Mā te aha e mātau ai te Atua?

He mātauranga koia tō te Runga Rawa?"

12 Nanā, ko te hunga kino tēnei,

kei runga tonu i te whenua rangatira,

e hua ana ō rātou taonga.

13 He pono he maumau tāku mea i tōku ngākau kia mā,

tāku horoi hoki i ōku ringa ki te harakore.

14 E whiua ana hoki ahau i te roa o te rā,

e pākia ana i ngā ata katoa.

15 Me i kī ahau, "Ka pēnei tāku kōrero,"

nā, e tinihanga ana ahau ki te whakatupuranga o āu tamariki.

16 I tāku meatanga kia mātauria tēnei,

ka kite ahau he mahi whakauaua rawa;

17 tae noa ahau ki te wāhi tapu o te Atua,

kātahi ahau ka mōhio ki tō rātou mutunga.

18 He pono i whakatūria rātou e koe ki ngā wāhi pāhekeheke;

ā, whakatakā ana e koe ki te ngaromanga.

19 Anō te pānga whakareretanga o tō rātou hunanga,

kua pau rawa i ngā wehi!

20 Ka rite ki te rekanga kanohi, ina ara ake te tangata,

tāu whakahāwea ki tō rātou āhua,

e te Ariki, ina ara ake koe.

21 Nā, mamae noa iho tōku ngākau,

ā, hukihuki ana ōku whatumanawa.

22 He whakaarokore hoki ahau, he kūware;

me te mea he kīrehe ahau i tōu aroaro.

23 Ahakoa rā kei a koe tonu ahau;

e puritia ana e koe tōku ringa matau.

24 Mā tōu whakaaro ahau e ārahi;

muri iho ka riro ahau i a koe ki te korōria.

25 Ko wai hoki tōku i te rangi ko koe anake?

Kāhore atu hoki ōku i te whenua e hiahia ai, ko koe anake.

26 Hemo iho ōku kikokiko me tōku ngākau;

ko te Atua ia te kaha o tōku ngākau,

tōku wāhi ake ake.

27 Nā, ko te hunga e mamao atu ana i a koe ka mate;

ka ngaro i a koe te hunga pūremu katoa e whakarere nei i a koe.

28 Ko ahau ia, he pai ki ahau te whakatata ki te Atua;

kua waiho e ahau te Ariki, a Ihowā, hei whakawhirinakitanga mōku,

kia whakapuakina ai e ahau āu mahi katoa.
