To the chief Musician. On stringed instruments: an instruction. Of David.

1 Give ear to my prayer, O God*GodHebrew: Elohim and hide not thyself from my supplication. 2 Attend unto me, and answer me: I wander about in my plaint, and I moan aloud, 3 Because of the voice of the enemy; because of the oppression of the wicked: for they cast iniquity upon me, and in anger they persecute me. 4 My heart is writhing within me, and the terrors of death are fallen upon me. 5 Fear and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me. 6 And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away, and be at rest; 7 Behold, I would flee afar off, I would lodge in the wilderness; Selah; 8 I would hasten my escape from the stormy wind, from the tempest.

9 Swallow them up, Lord; divide their tongue: for I have seen violence and strife in the city. 10 Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof; and iniquity and mischief are in the midst of it. 11 Perversities are in the midst thereof; and oppression and deceit depart not from its streets. 12 For it is not an enemy that hath reproached me — then could I have borne it; neither is it he that hateth me that hath magnified himself against me — then would I have hidden myself from him; 13 But it was thou, a man mine equal, mine intimate, my familiar friend. ... 14 We who held sweet intercourse together. To the house of God*GodHebrew: Elohim we walked amid the throng. 15 Let death seize upon them, let them go down alive into Sheol. For wickedness is in their dwellings, in their midst.

16 As for me, unto God*GodHebrew: Elohim will I call; and Jehovah will save me. 17 Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray and moan aloud; and he will hear my voice. 18 He hath redeemed my soul in peace from the battle against me: for there were many about me. 19 ·God*GodHebrew: El will hear, and afflict them: he that is seated of old, (Selah) ...because there is no change in them, and they fear not God*GodHebrew: Elohim20 He hath put forth his hands against such as are at peace with him; he hath profaned his covenant. 21 Smooth were the milky words of his mouth, but his heart was war; his words were softer than oil, yet are they drawn swords. 22 Cast thy burden upon Jehovah, and he will sustain thee: he will never suffer the righteous to be moved. 23 And thou, O God*GodHebrew: Elohim wilt bring them down into the pit of destruction: bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days. But as for me, I will confide in thee.

O cântare a lui David

1 Ia aminte, Dumnezeule, la rugăciunea mea

și nu Te ascunde de cererile mele!

2 Ascultă-mă și răspunde-mi!

Rătăcesc*Is. 38:14. încoace și încolo și mă frământ

3 din pricina zarvei vrăjmașului

și din pricina apăsării celui rău.

Căci*2 Sam. 16:7,8;19:19. ei aruncă nenorocirea peste mine

și mă urmăresc cu mânie.

4 Îmi tremură inima*Ps. 16:3. în mine

și mă cuprinde spaima morții,

5 mă apucă frica și groaza

și mă iau fiorii.

6 Eu zic: „O, dacă aș avea aripile porumbelului,

aș zbura și aș găsi undeva odihnă!"

7 Da, aș fugi departe de tot

și m-aș duce să locuiesc în pustie. (Oprire)

8 Aș fugi în grabă la un adăpost

de vântul acesta năprasnic și de furtuna aceasta.

9 Nimicește-i, Doamne, împarte-le limbile,

căci în cetate văd silă*Ier. 6:7. și certuri;

10 zi și noapte ei îi dau ocol pe ziduri:

nelegiuirea și răutatea sunt în sânul ei;

11 răutatea este în mijlocul ei

și vicleșugul și înșelătoria nu lipsesc din piețele ei.

12 Nu*Ps. 41:9. un vrăjmaș mă batjocorește,

căci aș suferi; nu potrivnicul meu se ridică*Ps. 35:26;38:16. împotriva mea,

căci m-aș ascunde dinaintea lui.

13 Ci tu, pe care te socoteam una cu mine,

tu, frate*2 Sam. 15:12;16:23.Ps. 41:9.Ier. 9:4. de cruce și prieten cu mine!

14 Noi, care trăiam împreună într-o plăcută prietenie

și ne duceam împreună*Ps. 42:4. cu mulțimea în Casa lui Dumnezeu!

15 Să vină moartea peste ei

și să se coboare*Num. 16:30. de vii în Locuința morților,

căci răutatea este în locuința lor, în inima lor!

16 Dar eu strig către Dumnezeu,

și Domnul mă va scăpa.

17 Seara*Dan. 6:10.Luca 18:1.Fapte 3:1;10:3,9,30.1 Tes. 5:17., dimineața și la amiază, oftez și gem,

și El va auzi glasul meu.

18 Mă va scăpa din lupta care se dă împotriva mea și-mi va aduce pacea,

căci mulți*2 Cron. 32:7,8. mai sunt împotriva mea!

19 Dumnezeu va auzi și-i va smeri,

El, care*Deut. 33:27. din veșnicie stă pe scaunul Lui de domnie. (Oprire)

Căci în ei nu este nicio nădejde de schimbare

și nu se tem de Dumnezeu.

20 Ei pun*Fapte 12:1. mâna pe cei ce trăiau*Ps. 7:4. în pace cu ei

și își calcă legământul.

21 Gura lor este dulce ca smântâna,

dar în inimă poartă războiul;

cuvintele*Ps. 28:3;57:4;62:4;64:3.Prov. 5:3,4;12:18. lor sunt mai alunecoase decât untdelemnul,

dar, când ies ele din gură, sunt niște săbii.

22 Încredințează-ți*Ps. 37:5.Mat. 6:25.Luca 12:22.1 Pet. 5:7. soarta în mâna Domnului și El te va sprijini!

El nu*Ps. 37:24. va lăsa niciodată să se clatine cel neprihănit.

23 Și Tu, Dumnezeule, îi vei coborî în fundul gropii.

Oamenii*Ps. 5:6. setoși de sânge și de înșelăciune nu*Iov 15:32.Prov. 10:27.Ecl. 7:17. vor ajunge nici jumătate din zilele lor.

Eu însă mă încred în Tine!
